His actual name (Richard Williams Atkins) was derived from three actual serial killers' names: Benjamin Atkins, William Bonin, and Richard Evonitz. His nickname (the South-Side Stranger) was a misreading of an actual Serial Killer's alias; Timothy W. Spencer, aka, the South-Side Strangler. I just thought that Stranger sounded better, so I kept it as such.
