Folia's StoryMany years ago, when the earth was young, their was no autumn. The animals had to get by on the springs, summers and winters and live of what little food they could find, though the spirits liked it this way and were reluctant to change it. But the worst part was the winter, the earth was too hard to burrow into, the the plants were to weak to gather food from and the nights too cold to allow sleep, so badly that even the creatures had to admit it, they did not like the winter at all! They would die soon if nothing changed.
Early one morning, earlier than even the sun dare rise, Folia scurried out of her den to search for food to give to the other animals and started to think about how else she could help. She wandered for a while and plucked a few berries from a poor looking plant and scampered back to lay them near the blackbirds, an idea clicking just as she put them down for the birds.
She could persuade the spirits to make a new season for the animals! It would take some work, but it was worth a shot and she had no other plan.
As soon as the sun started to come up, which was barely visible for the thick fog that had so inconveniently placed itself around it, Folia looked up to the spirits and beckoned them to watch her. She then sped of toward one of the ancient forests near where the blackbirds live and put her paw onto the tree, letting a leaf fall to the floor. The spirits watched with interest. She then sped to the river and blew gently on the ice, allowing it to melt and scooping a drop up in her paw before laying it in the mud, which immediately softened as she dug her paw into it. The spirit watched with growing curiosity and she uncovered some more frost, this time it was hiding a berry bush and she pulled off one of the only surviving berries, offering it to the spirit who took it in fascination.
For many hours after the events, the spirits pondered over what the Mutato had shown them, debating the possible meanings and considering their own ideas. Until they finally grasped it, the animals could be happy in this environment, they just needed time to adjust and for that, a new season! They set to work right away...
The next day as Folia woke, she was staring up at a gold brown tree and lying beside her were leaves and fruits and berries. She looked up to see the squirrels busying themselves collecting nuts and storing them for when the winter returned, rabbits and badgers burrowing their tunnels for when they would be needed to keep them safe and deer leaping through the trees to find sheltered areas for when the snows came. Even a few insects had begun burrowing into the leaves lying around and there was the distant gushing of a river.
Folia knew what had happened, autumn had come for the first time.
