What is a Mutato?

In a rapidly changing world of rapidly accumulating toxic waste, Mutatoes take to the sky.
These creatures, affectionately dubbed Mutatoes, are a sad combination of an unknown creature, radioactive material, and a potato.
They live in the sky and consume UV radiation. They are the new era of Super Man.

At birth Mutatoes are about the size of a potato and can grow to around the size of a basketball.
Generally they are busy creatures who would prefer flying to being carried.
The Mutato is filled with the same kind of gases that its tail is made of.
These gases are currently unidentified, but are lighter than air- enabling them to fly.
They can stay in the air for a maximum of 20 hours straight before they need to land and "rest".
Though, when they can't be in the air, Mutatoes pace... a lot.

A dragon themed mutato! Wanted to recreate one of my entries to the artist contest.

Reason for choosing the name:

Hotaru means "Firefly" in Japanese. I chose the name because the tail looks like fire, just like the one on a firefly

I actually got two, but since one of them counts more as a spirit I think I choose Toothless from "How to train your dragon"

Merlin Ambrosius
Reason:
Merlin originally means, "Sea Fortress," I like to idea of Fortress in this meaning. Merlin was the protector of King Arthur during the time of Magic. As a young boy he hid his magic from most people, for it was forbidden in the Kingdom. Protecting Arthur was a full time job for Merlin, for hiding his magic and using it to protect the future and later King, Merlin almost had to build a wall around himself and Arthur, as well around the Kingdom.

Merlins main focus was keeping Morgana, King Arthur's retched adopted 'sister', away. After turning to the dark magic, Morgana tries to take over the kingdom by killing Arthur. She attempts often, but every time fails due to Merlin. As time goes on, Morgana finds out about Merlin. She understands his ways and tries to destroy him. But, Merlin over comes this by extending his knowledge of Magic and his new skill of Dragon Lord. Merlin must work together then with his dragon, Kilgharrah. He teaches Merlin and helps him along the way. It wasnt until Morgana sent out an army that she would be defeated.
In a great battle, Merlin calls for Kilgharrah's assistance, to spread rapid wild fires to Morganas troops, saving the kingdom and King Arthur.
Favorite Dragon:
Kilgharrah. "The Great Dragon." From Merlin. Gives advice to Merlin as he learns his magic and how to protect King Arthur.

Reason for choosing the name: In Japanese, the name Zilconis means something along the lines of "The Emerald Dragon," and the scaly pattern reminded me of it. ^-^
Your favourite fictional dragon: Haku (from Spirited Away) Not sure if he counts though, because Haku was a river spirit.

Why Mango:

Well, mangoes are my favorite fruit. And mangoes are orange, like the fire part of this little guy.

I'd have to go with Malificent. (I hope I spelled it right.)) Or the dragon in Sleeping BeautyJust remembered Sapphira from Eragon..

The Mutato Would Be:
Ana (♀) - 'AH-nuh'

Why?

Because of the Anax imperator, otherwise known as the Emperor dragonfly (Yes, I know that the dragonfly in the photo is actually a Darner). The females of this species are a vivid green color, like the mutato, and when viewed under a microscope their eyes and wings look very much like scales. Dragonflies may not be actual dragons - and they certainly don't breathe fire - but these insects are fast, agile fliers with a beauty all their own, just their legendary namesake.

My favorite Fictional Dragon:

Draco from Dragonheart, of course. ^.^ I've loved that movie since I was a little kid.

Reason for Choosing the Name;
When I saw that we had to name our favourite fictional dragon, I straight away knew which dragon I would choose, so I decided to name the mutato after him

My favourite fictional dragon would have to be Gadzooks from the Last Dragon Chronicles by Chris d'Lacey, pictured above.

An inspirational writing dragon with a powerful ability to make events happen simply by writing down words on the notepad he carries. Guides David throughout the series and is influential in all the major developments of the story.

I loved the series but especially loved the dragons, and Gadzooks was one of my favourites.
