Mutato #168

Postby Tsukiko-pyon » Wed Jul 31, 2013 4:08 pm

What is a Mutato?

In a rapidly changing world of rapidly accumulating toxic waste, Mutatoes take to the sky.
These creatures, affectionately dubbed Mutatoes, are a sad combination of an unknown creature, radioactive material, and a potato.
They live in the sky and consume UV radiation. They are the new era of Super Man.

At birth Mutatoes are about the size of a potato and can grow to around the size of a basketball.
Generally they are busy creatures who would prefer flying to being carried.
The Mutato is filled with the same kind of gases that its tail is made of.
These gases are currently unidentified, but are lighter than air- enabling them to fly.
They can stay in the air for a maximum of 20 hours straight before they need to land and "rest".
Though, when they can't be in the air, Mutatoes pace... a lot.

Somni

~~Why~~
Somni is a shortening of the Latin word somnium, meaning dream.

~~Best Dream~~
I don't often dream - In part because I don't often sleep. One dream (Or series of dreams) that stands out to me, however, was a rather odd one occurring in the Kingdom Hearts universe, in the world of Twilight Town.
Silly as it is, I often have dreams about games, books, movies, and so on - And they're often rather hilarious.
This particular series went something like this:

I'm wandering around Twilight Town for no readily apparent reason, and clearly confused, as it's not even real.
Out of nowhere, Xemnas appears, and tells me to go get him some stain remover. I don't question this, for whatever reason.
I wander around for several more minutes, before randomly encountering a hobo. Who just so happens to have a bottle of stain remover. I beat him up and take it back to Xemnas.
Then I woke up.
The next night, I dreamed that I was back in Twilight Town. Xemnas showed up again, this time asking for a mochaccino. Again, I don't question this. If that's what you like, dude.
I wander around before finding an freaking Dunkin Donuts. In Twilight Town. Yeah.
As I approached, who walks out of the store but the hobo from the last dream, carrying a mochaccino. Out of nowhere, I have the bottle of stain remover in my hand, so I walk up to him and beat him over the head with it before taking the drink back to Xemnas. After handing it to him, I mention something about hobo backwash and walk away.

The sheer absurdity of this series of dreams has made it my favorite dream ever, narrowly beating the one from a few days later, in which I was pushed off the Clock Tower and fell through the ground, landing in an underground Dunkin Donuts and stealing a strawberry frosted donut on the way out.

...I think these occurred soon after Days came out, leading to much Kingdom Hearts on the brain. I've had similar experiences with Skyward Sword and Pokémon.

Heyo! I'm pipsqueak99, and this is Fiddler.

I actually got the name from the movie "Fiddler on the Roof". It's a great movie. One of the main characters has a bit of a dilemma, though. He arranged his daughter's wedding to a butcher, but then later said she could marry the man she loved. In order to convince his wife of the pairing, he made up a nightmare. In his "nightmare", his wife's grandmother (whom was 30 years dead) appeared and told him that his daughter had to marry the tailor instead of the butcher.

Worst nightmare?
I'll spare you the tale of a nightmare from when I was young. It seriously wouldn't scare anybody. (If you really must know, the Wiggles kidnapped me, and Barney was their ringleader, and Batman rescued me, even though I've never watched Batman.)

But here's one I had last year.
Note; all people who die in this are actually alive in RL.

We were coming home from my great-grandmother's funeral in Los Angeles. She had been killed in her sleep by a heart attack. Any who, it was really sad. In the way home, we passed Disneyland like always. But something had changed. I had to go to the bathroom, so we decided to take a pit stop and go check it out.
We pulled up into a parking lot, and saw a train station being built where Disneyland used to be. That alone is sad enough. While it wasn't quite finished yet, the bathrooms were.
My dad and I had to go to the bathroom, so my mom and three little brothers stayed in the car.
The line for the toilet was huge. Just as I walked into the ladies restroom and my dad walked into the men's, I heard a train. It sounded wrong.
I looked back, and saw a trading coming into the station at full speed. People were screaming and running away. I opened my mouth to say my most common statement when accidents happen- "That doesn't look good."
But it never happened. The train derailed, and flew up over my head and crashed into the bathrooms. The damage ended less than an inch from my toes.

You would think it would and there. Unfortunately, no. I never cut my dreams short, unfortunately.
Instead, I have time skips.

It time skipped to a funeral. My dad's funeral. We started by walking into the newly refurbished train station bathrooms. Next, we proceeded to a very long staircase that ended on top of some clouds. My grandfather had swam in the Olympics for Hungary, and apparently my Dad was some sort of prince because of that. Anyways, we dropped his casket off the clouds, and that was that.

It wasn't horribly terrifying, but it was a tragic dream for me. I woke up bawling.

(If you want retrying, my most terrifying was I was suspended over a pit, and the rope was starting to break, and lots of people were throwing up into the pit. I'm afraid of falling, and I'm emetophobic, so that scared me to no end.)

Describe your best dream or worst nightmare.

They were all around me, dark demons. Their faces partially ripped and blood dripping from their claws. I had no where to go. Everywhere I ran, they were there. I had wings, but some how couldn't fly. I jumped and jumped, but nothing happened. I was in a creepy, open labrinth filled with ghastly creatures. They didn't attack me though, they just stared. There was a voice in my head telling me that if I didn't make it in time, my family would die. There was no way out.

:( My most horrible dream. I had watched Labrinth (Did I spell that right?) the night before. I woke up at 1 in the morning and refused to go back to bed.

+Name of the Mutato 夢 Yume [Yuu for short]
++Reason for choosing the name It's a simple Japanese noun meaning 'dream' and it's not commonly used as a name, but I think it sounds very sweet and fits the theme!
Describe your best dream or worst nightmare.
What I consider my worst nightmare was a definitely strange one, to say the least. I found myself in a tall, modern building - lots of natural light pouring in from huge windows, plants decorating the space and a huge indoor waterfall fountain that gave the hall a refreshing feeling. Definitely not the standard stage for a nightmare, though.

As I walked into said hall, I noticed a statue at the bottom of the pool created by the waterfall, as if it was looking up. At first, I was blinded by the amount of sunlight filtering in and couldn't make out its features, but upon a closer look I realized the statue wasn't of a human, but of a creature I'd never seen before - it had a quadruped, fur-covered body and a long neck, sort of like a llama, but instead of a normal animal head there was just a round shape atop its neck. I would have laughed at this oddity, but for some reason I felt a chill in my bones that wasn't funny at all. Still, I was curious and didn't want to back down; I wanted to know what the statue was gazing at so intently, and I wanted to feel its metallic fur under my fingers too.

I stepped in closer, reaching out to touch it, but before I could make contact its head snapped round to look at me, and I was frozen in fear. Its face was almost owlish, white and round, devoid of features but for two oval eyes, too close to each other and of very different sizes, pitch.black, open wide and staring fixedly at me, and a tiny oval mouth that mimicked my shocked look.

At the same time, deafening shrieks that had to be inside my brain - or were they? - began, and the light from the windows seemed to grow until it engulfed everything save for me and the statue, until it looked like the creature truly was alive and we were the last bits of reality left. If that was the case, I remember thinking, I'd go insane in a matter of seconds. Then I was falling down into my own body, into the hotel bed and the summer heat of Lisbon, knowing that I needed rest and should try to fall asleep again, but in every shadow and every glimpse of light I saw that creature's face, so I had to settle for curling up into a ball and let exhaustion do its job.

This might sound like a silly nightmare, but so far I've never been more scared in my entire life. I have nightmares like this from time to time, and it's always pretty hard to fall asleep afterwards, all thanks to my restless imagination, but over the years I've developed a method of using it in my favor. I use something similar to imaginary friends to calm me down and relax, and I think a Mutato would be perfect for that! Seriously, they're so adorable that no one could be scared when they're around.

[Oh, by the way, this sculpture has an eery resemblance to the creature in my nightmare, in case I failed to describe it properly.]

+Name of the Mutato Akumu
++Reason for choosing the name Akumu, or 悪夢, means Nightmare in Japanese. I thought it would be very fitting for this Mutato, as I would believe she is a nightmare hidden within a dream.
Describe your best dream or worst nightmare. My worst nightmare has to be my very first. It may sound silly now, but it was the most frightening thing. I was very little when it happened. I wished upon a shooting star while looking out my window, at a tree that was not there normally, and it landed right on it, knocking it over. I ran outside to check it out, and I saw a large star-shaped UFO of sorts. I just watched as it opened up and a very, very large creature came climbing out. It looked like a Pikachu-yes, how frightening, a large yellow rodent-but it was... it was weird, sure it was yellow and fluffy, but its body was twisted and narrow, and it had large fangs, narrowed eyes, and long claws, and it looked ready to eat me. It growled out towards me, and I turned around and tried to open the door to only find that it was locked, and before it could swallow me down, it ended. I still remember the nightmare to this day. Randomly I would think about the sumo Pikachu that attempted to eat me alive. And this was when I was four or five years old. Thirteen or fourteen years ago.
