What is a Mutato?

In a rapidly changing world of rapidly accumulating toxic waste, Mutatoes take to the sky.
These creatures, affectionately dubbed Mutatoes, are a sad combination of an unknown creature, radioactive material, and a potato.
They live in the sky and consume UV radiation. They are the new era of Super Man.

At birth Mutatoes are about the size of a potato and can grow to around the size of a basketball.
Generally they are busy creatures who would prefer flying to being carried.
The Mutato is filled with the same kind of gases that its tail is made of.
These gases are currently unidentified, but are lighter than air- enabling them to fly.
They can stay in the air for a maximum of 20 hours straight before they need to land and "rest".
Though, when they can't be in the air, Mutatoes pace... a lot.

My first Mutato as a GA <3 So excited. I'm so happy I got chosen to be a GA C:
I know I failed a little - the alethiometer is missing a lot of symbols, as they wouldn't fit.
Yessss it's based on The Golden Compass *book*.
I put emphasis that it's based upon just the book because the first book is the only one I've read so far.

Tyme Khaeper - male» The name just seems to fit. While together it may sound stupidly cliché, the name clicks.

The name Tyme gives the aura of an intelligent and adventurous, yet slightly closed off individual, but still with a childish air, and still very innocent. Tyme also symbolizes an individual in who has a difficulty with responsibilities, but craves to be someone who others can depend on.

The second name (or surname) Khaeper, symbolizes a pioneering phone and leader-like individual, able to to get things going and make things happen. Even so, Khaeper also symbolizes an individual who fears loneliness, but wants to be left alone at the same time.

Together, Tyme Khaeper symbolizes an individual who becomes a founder or creater of a entirely new career or even thing, but prefers to stay away from the public eye and pursue pursue his own idealistic dreams or aspirations, whether it be through adventure or otherwise.

Hello~ You can call me Strikeout.


This little Mutato would be named Alex, should I recieve him.


Alex is a near homophone of Aleth, which is short for Alethiometer. The name Alexander is also indirectly derived from Greek alexein, "Defender, protector of man," which is how I've always viewed dæmons; Though the dæmon and the human are equally dependent on each other, humans here have no dæmons and function normally (of course). Taking into consideration the fact that being with a dæmon is always safer than being alone, I've always thought that perhaps originally, they were there only to protect their humans more than coexist with them. Alex is certainly more dæmon-like than human-like, and though I somehow doubt a Mutato would be much of a defender (due to their small and light build), the notion still stands.


        Alex closed his eyes, taking in the radiation and warmth as the sun began to rise. The night had been long and cold, especially after a long flight into the Artic to see the Northern Lights, and so the setting of the full moon behind him was a very welcome notion. The Lights he was so keen on seeing never showed their faces, but he hadn't expected such and was prepared to wait.
        The young Mutato settled in to float for a few hours, snuggling into a little ball to keep himself warm. He remained like this until he grew weary of being afloat, and touched down on the loose snow. He didn't want to be on the ground here, between the hungry polar bears (Not that he would be much of a meal) and the fact that the snow was deep enough that pacing was near impossible for him. He flicked his ears, trying not to let anxiety take over his thoughts, and imagined the esteemed Aurora Borealis he was here to watch. He'd always wondered if it really was only a light show, or if it was something more...?
        He drifted off into a cozy slumber, dreaming of portals to alternate dimensions, how other creatures would live, what they would be like...

        Alex awoke to a bright light blaring at him even through his closed eyelids. Muttering under his breath, he rolled over and rose into the air, blinking his eyes in half-awake glee. The Northern Lights! Right here, right in front of him, even brighter than he'd heard or imagined they'd be! He let out a laugh of pure giddiness, dancing around the beautiful Aurora.
        After a few minutes, he calmed himself and moved back to gaze in awe at how amazing nature could be. He paused his joyful bobbing and frowned. This was the oppertunity he'd always dreamed of, the chance to explore strange new

worlds (Should they even exist), but... Did he truly have the courage? What if these other places were hostile? If they had never seen a Mutato before and dissected him? Or worst of all... What if there was no portal? The Aurora Borealis was only the UV rays he thrived in being forced into this small cone of weakness in the Earth's magnetic field? Everything Alex had ever dreamed of bring proven fantasy by he, hinself would be a far worse punishment than anything.
        But he had to try. Rising to look at the Lights at eye-level, he smiled with newfound determination. If he didn't at least give an attempt, what would be the point in the first place? The gray Mutato dove into the Aurora, the colorful lights nearly blinding him, and when he arrived on the other side...

        Nothing?

        Alex cried out in frustration. No! Anything but nothing, anything but nothing! But no matter how many times he rubbed his eyes or bonked his head, the snowy terrain was still there. He floated to the ground in defeat, and was much surprised to find packed snow waiting for him. He took the opportunity to pace feverishly, his brain practically whirring.
        Packed snow meant someone had been there, and not too long ago. There was no packed snow the day before, and he was a light enough sleeper that the crunch of snow would have awoken him instantly. His eyes filled with hope as he all but dashed into the air, searching for more clues. A bit of movement to the west caught his attention, but he couldn't tell what it was, exactly. He floated a bit closer and squinted, curiosity overtaking caution.
        A polar bear, massive and chiseled, noticed him and stared on, eyes wide. Alex frowned slightly. He was certain bears-- and animals in general-- didn't... wear armor.

nico crashed throw the branches whos trees stod tall, the sadow was still chasing her
slithering amog the ground like a poisones snake. She was coverd with scars and bruses from crashing throw the branches, suddenly the trees ended and a small pound replased them. Without thinking she dove into the
pound, she waited a couple of minutes before piking her head out of the water to check if the shadow was
still there. It was not, so she lept out of the water and shoke, she like water as much as the next girl
but she did not like the feeling of being wet, the forest was so silent and peaceful at night.
The wind howled and Nico shiverd, the lake was not the warmest. i had better find some shelter for the night
she thought. Nico found a nice soft moss bed, lay down, and fell into a deep deep sleep
