-Basics-

Username; Hoshikuzu

Name (Nickname): Matatabi.

Gender: Male.

Eyes:

Mata has pale blue eyes, however,
they hold much depth and emotion
in them. His glares are also told to
be legendary, causing water to
freeze and glass to crack. Honestly,
I don't think he even notices when
he does it.

Demeanor/Carriage/Gait:

Matatabi is a creature with much
pride and an agile mind. However,
he is neither boastful nor conceited.
Mata is actually a very kind dragon
(he's just not very friendly). He
knows right from wrong and doesn't
let emotion/heart cloud his
judgment.

Voice:

Mata has a deep voice, but it's
smooth like silk and is very pleasing
to listen to. This is sad though
because Matatabi doesn't like
talking very much at all. His
'sentences' are clipped and he
doesn't beat around the bush.
Basically, he lives by the fact that
'no.' is a complete sentence and fills
in the stupid questions with 'Hnn'.
Whatever that means. Is it even a
word? more like a grunt I suppose.

Style:

Graceful, elegant, stoic, careful.

-History/Background-

Matatabi used to be such a lively
and loving child. Filled with emotion
and that childish light in his eyes.
However, when Matatabi was
merely 6, his family’s house was
attacked. By who, no one knows,
but Mata has his suspicions.

Luckily he still has his mother to
care for him (well, now he’s doing
most of the caring) and a place to
return home to. A place to call
home.

Matatabi blames himself for this
though, and his mother knows it.
Several times she’s tried to
convince him that it had nothing to
do with him, but he still refuses to
listen.It was his fault. he knows it.
It’s his fault because he wasn’t
strong enough. he wasn’t strong
enough to do anything! He barely
even stood his ground! Heck, as
soon as things got rough the 6
year old ran and hid like his mother
told him. Like the little coward he
was. Mata despises himself for it.
All because of him everyone...

everyone died.

If only he had been stronger...

learning experiences:

Intelligence Level: 90/100 for the
basic stuff. 10/100 for
emotion/understanding the grays in
his world of black and white...

Long Term Goals: grow stronger
so you can protect everyone who
needs it. Try and understand
‘emotion' better.

Family: Mata still has his slowly
healing mother. She’s growing
stronger, but slowly. Yes it has
been a while, but in the attack she
nearly broke all of her bones. It
was understandable that she was
taking so long to heal. Now she
can walk, talk better, and even do
a little dusting or sweeping
sometimes. only for short periods
though. Matatabi still does most of
the housework and cooking.

Mata loves his mother dearly, even
if he doesn’t know who to show it.
Whenever he thinks of losing her...
that wretched feeling returns. The
one where he wants to just go in
some abandoned, dark, moldy
corner and rot there until he dies
himself. That feeling.

His mother knows his love for her
though, and understands. She
regrets his childhood being so..
tough, and regrets the fact that he
lost all of his innocence and his
carefree attitude. She still loves her
child just the way he is though and
accepts everything as it comes.

Friends:
Matatabi doesn't have many
‘friends’ considering he doesn't
open up much and many find him
scary. However, those who are his
friends are only his most trusted
and treasured people in his life.
Mata doesn't have ‘friends’
anyway. Those who he treasures
are considered ‘family’ in his eyes.

Matatabi would love to believe that
he's happier by himself, but even he
knows that deep down... he gets
lonely.

(Of course, couldn't leave this one off
the list. It’s just so darn fun. xD)
Matatabi hasn't experiences true love
before, so he'd just assume that he's
pansexual (no preference)

-Personality-

Really, I believe that personality is the key to making your character original, stand out, or just overall complete and well-rounded. I want to see the depth of his personality, want it to be believable. Nobody likes a character that is far less interesting than a wet mop.
Sometimes I may struggle with fully explaining the personality of the character. I need to explain (in horrid and absolute detail) so that the character floating around in your mind makes sense on paper.
Because of this, my personality section tends to be quite long. I find that this process not only helps me expand and understand my character better, but also further develop him past the image in my head. Please forgive me for the length.

Part One: Basic Info

Loves/Favorites:
Mata likes quiet and peace. He likes helping (even though he's not gonna go around all smiley and happy) and likes getting his work done on time. The dragon likes doing the best on his work and pleasing those around him. This may not be so obvious though since he would never say this aloud nor does he show it.

Hates:
Mata hates disappointing people more than anything. He hates that pang of something in his heart whenever he gets stared at with those disapproving eyes. The dragon hates it when he's incorrect about anything and can be childishly stubborn in these moments. Mata also dislikes not understanding. The dragon is a man of intelligence and his unique ability to analyze situations for the best outcome. So, when he doesn't understand something, he gets greats frustrated. Again, he'd never show this though.
Oh, and I forgot to mention. Mata hates loud, obnoxious, bright things. So why does he always seem to get stuck with them? The heavens above must find his pain amusing.

However, he hates not being strong enough most of all.

Talents/Skills:
Matatabi doesn't have many hobbies, so finding 'talents' aren't really on his list of things to do. He's content with his life and doesn't seem to want to stand out much. However, even if he doesn't want to admit it and/or announce it to the world, the dragon is an exceedingly amazing cook. He can take nearly anything and somehow manage to make it mouthwatering.

Hopes/Dreams:
Matatabi wants to become strong. He's tired of losing loved ones due to his weaknesses and only wishes to save/please/help those important to him.

Fears/Nightmares:
More than anything Mata fears losing those important to him. In fact, he stills has nightmares from that night...

Best Quality:
Matatabi finds it easy hiding his emotions. He's very level headed and can handle nearly every situation. He rarely blows his top.

Greatest Flaw:
While it's easy for him to hide his emotions, it's hard for him to understand them. This bothers Mata to no end. Like when he sees that certain someone and his stomachs seem to do somersaults. Or when he sees that particular other someone and he fights the urge to gag and hiss. That would be impolite, and Matatabi is never impolite without good reasoning. 'Feelings' are not of any importance to him, so that would not be a good reason. It's just... Emotions are so confusing to him! He just doesn't get it! Like when gives a little white lie to those worried and he can practically feel all of the tiny lies fluttering in his gut. Or when the fur on his nape pricks up and he feels... something, but he can't name it. That strange emotion that makes him want to dash and simply leave.

When he disappoints that special someone and he wants to go curl up in a corner and die.

So strange...

Quirks:

• Due to his lack for understatement in emotion, Mata can be blunt and a bit inconsiderate (unintentionally at times)
• This also means that if someone's flirting with him, he won't get it and just assume that something's in their eye.
• Mata loves to cook and had a soft spot for sweets. No one knows this though, of course.
• Mata doesn't get sarcasm either, so he unintentionally annoys people when their insulting him and he just answers as blunt as always.

One thing he is and one thing he is not.
Nice, but not friendly; Compassionate, but not affectionate. Tender, but not necessarily caring.

Part Two: In-depth Analysis

How does the character picture himself
Mata doesn't think much about himself. He doesn't care about physical appearances and can handle people's different personalities. People being 'mean' or 'offensive' doesn't really bother him. Unless they're insulting his friends family, anyway.
All Matatabi really thinks about himself is his goals and weaknesses. He doesn't care about his physical appearance, but knows that certain looks (dirty, messy, disgusting, smelly) offend other people and he tires to be an acceptable person. Too bad he doesn't know that rare moments when he glares can practically make the person he's upset with piss themselves.

How do others see him
"Erhm, I definitely find him attractive (I mean, come on. That part is obvious. Don't think he knows how good-looking he is himself...) However, most people -like me- are also very scared. Just look at those narrow icy eyes, that tall stature, that head-help-up-high-cause-I'm-better-than-you stance! What isn't there to fear? And judging by his stoic face in nearly every situation, the guy doesn't seem like the type to hold back. He could lash out at any second with those large paws and before you know it- BAM! Your eyes are missing!"

Mata's most valuable possession is the glowing-red-stone necklace that his best friend Shuiro gave him in return for helping him with his chores (the lazy red dragon actually asked for his help quite often, so after a while Matatabi just told him getting 'payment' wasn't worth it anymore).

Current motivation:
To win and come out on top. To become stronger.


What is his/her philosophy on life and death?
"My philosophy on life and death?... Well, I'm not necessarily looking for death nor do I prefer/like it. However, I do understand that everything must eventually wither away to create space for new life. You know, death leads to evolution and evolution leads to change. The only thing is, change can be both a good and a bad thing. The future is mainly up to us."

Does he have a temper?
Oh yes, he definitely does. Mata actually becomes vexed quite easily. However, he hides it usually, so no one knows. unless they're being EXTREMELY obnoxious. then he may show it. After all, they'd probably get the hint when they see his glare.

Polite or rude?
Definitely polite. He's not necessarily 'nice' or 'inviting', but he's always polite.

Stingy or generous?
He's not a stingy person, but he's not totally generous. Mata would of course readily give everything he has for people, but he won't do more than is necessary. Unless for friends or treasured ones.

Leader or a follower?
Follower if he's just sort of helping. Definitely a strong leader though in touch situations when he's actually needed.
