Mustang Make-Over; Day:Zero/0

Postby UnicornDoingDressage » Thu Jul 18, 2013 10:24 pm

Day Zero's Journal.
7/18/2013

PM/1:00-2:30=I scrubbed the shed sparkly before the arrival of a un-touched completely wild mustang. The birds chirped peacefully and the bees went from clover as I went in the pasture and filled the buckets with fresh hay and clean water. Mixed emotions circled my head. "Would he or she be friendly?", "Will they be saddle broken eventually?", these annoying questions came and go but then I was jerked from my nonsense at the noise of screeching wheels of pavement crushing rocks.

PM/2:31-2:50=I turned my head and saw a white trailer with big bold letters in red: MUSTANG MAKEOVER I was so happy! My Mustang made it safely to my grandparents farm. I heard lots of frantic hoof beats as he or she scrambled to get out. The trailer went to a stop and a woman jumped out of the truck pulling the trailer with a smile. She said that we would back the trailer up to the pasture and open the door from the side to let this hyper little gelding out. The driver backed the trailer too the pasture opening and un latched the door. The gelding galloped at full speed out of the trailer and into the pasture, bucking happily. I thanked the driver and closed the gate to the pasture, slowly looking up to see a big head looking down at me. "Well hello there!" I said in a soft voice to this big, beautiful Mustang. His name was Dixie.

PM/2:51-3:00=Dixie looked down at me and gave a soft nicker. Then he trotted off to explore his new home. After he had explored for a few minutes storm clouds rolled in. He sensed it and walked into the shed and rolled around in the soft hay. I headed to the house to let him get used to his surroundings.

PM/3:01-6-05=I let Dixie get totally used to everything so he wouldn't be afraid, a light drizzle was peaceful as I ate a big dinner. I turned to the window to see Dixie rolling in the mud! I laughed. "Sure is gettin' used to his surroundings, eh?" said my Grandfather. "Yup!" I giggled. I thought to my self for a few minutes. "Maybe he will be a champion barrel racer." I blurred out. Grandpa nodded and said "Just never give up, and I am mighty sure someday he might be the next famus' Breyer horse every girl wants to own." "You never know..." I whispered. I hoped that Dixie would be happy here, but after the Mustang Makeover I would be boarding him at Bayside Equestrian Stables, where I boarded 3 other horses.

PM/6:06-8:15=I finished my dinner and skipped up stairs to pull on my cowboy boots so I would get stepped on, then I headed down to the barn. I was going to halter train Dixie before any real training. I grabbed a rope halter from the barn and a lead rope. Then I saw the caked in mud Dixie! I giggled. "You silly boy!". "I will groom you once we get this done, ok boy?" I said. I entered the pasture. I shut the gate behind me and slowly walked towards Dixie. Dixie stood in the middle of the pasture and looked at me. held out a hand with a apple slice in it. We were feet apart when Dixie bent over, and ate the apple slice out of my hand. "Good boy!" I said. Dixie walked towards me, being cautious but friendly he sniffed me. I stretched a arm out and put it on Dixie. He stayed perfectly still and sniffed the halter in the other hand, I assumed he was looking for more treats! Then I slowly slipped on the rope halter, and Dixie didn't really care. Dixie looked at me and knew from that moment that I would not hurt him. I clipped the lead rope on the loop of the rope halter. I then started walking and Dixie was a little confused at first, but then followed behind. I praised him with peppermints and stroked on the nose. Eventually he got so used to it that he would follow me with me leading him! Then I though that since he handled the halter so well, it was time for him to get used to things on his back. I took a tarp and placed it on his back. Dixie turned his head and sniffed it, but really didn't care for the most part. I took off the tarp and fed him another peppermint. Then I got my grooming kit from the barn and groomed all the mud off him, being clean must of felt good because Dixie kept bobbing his head as if to say "THATS THE SPOT!" Then I said my goodbyes to Dixie and went to the house to rest for a while.

PM/8:16-8:30=I took off my boots and socks and pulled on my pajamas. Then I brushed my teeth and hair and went into my bed room. I read a book about wild Mustangs, and stories of people turning them into stars. Then I drank a glass of warm milk and sat in my bed.

PM/8:31-9:00=I pulled the covers over my body and drifted to sleep for tomorrow.
