how rider and animal met and created their bond:
It was a rainy day, the sky was overcast and the clouds trailed like tendrils of black smoke. The rocky land with barren of animals, they had scattered earlier in the day but yet the figure that ran past apparently didn't heed their warning. It was a mistake he was sure to not make again, but for now in his fustration the figure, a person, didn't care. All he cared about what getting out of the blasted rain and into some shelter. And so he ran, dodging hanging branches and occasionally stumbling over rocks that seemed to want to make his day even worse. A flash of lightning started and illuminated the face of the boy, no more than 14 years of age, and it seemed he regreted leaving his home for a world of travel.
"Blasted rain...should of never gone tracking that buck. Wasn't worth it" He grumbled to himself as he pushed through heavy foliage and into a clearing. He looked around it and took sight of a narrow cave. Feeling his spirits rise, the boy quickly took shelter in the darkness and huddled near the entrance, staring out at the downpour. "Just my luck. How wonderful." He started to set down his equipment, just a few bags of supplies and extra things he might need. Just as the fellow was pulling out a can of corn, he heard a small scrap deeper in the cave. Anticipating a stray woodland creature, a rabbit maybe, he grabbed his pocketknife and lighter and made his way toward the source of the sound. "Where are you.." At the sound of his voice, the unknown creature startled and seemed to turn towards him. The fellow stumbled back as a horrible, chilling thought crossed his mind. There were stories in his town of a creature four stories high of harrowing might and the scales of the abyss, who's eyes could easily bore holes into the soul of its opposer. Where did they say it could be.. The boy had always thought nothing of the tale, but..could it be true? He remembered their saying that the creature could be sighted miles away and it's home was hidden in the rocky forest. "Can't be." But his words were short-lived, cut off by the jagged fear of a suddenly overwhelming and terrifyingly large presence. He scrambled to bring out his lighter and the flame flickered to life. He saw himself face to face with the legend of a tale he had believed to never exist. A mon.
The creature's maw opened to reveal teeth larger than any bear's, and it roared. An earth shattering sound that forced the human to withdraw. Yet after the inital shock, he shook off the feeling and was back to himself. Confident. But his sword was beside his supplies and the Mon's intent was clear. This was his territory and with another defiant snarl he exploded from the back of the cave and jumped upon the human, his claws digging into skin. A fight insued and the two both were standing when the Mon suddenly drew back. His head dipping to the ground.
"Alright, kid. Enough." The human gasped aloud as the Mon telepathically spoke to him. "What?" Was all he could reply.
"I said enough, stupid. I'm not going to waste time challenging you when you seem able-bodied enough to stay alive. That shows courage. Ha." The Mon raised his head and seemed to mule over something but continuing to speak. You got something in your eyes. A toughness. Resistance. I'm joining up with you, wherever you go I go. I'm tired of this sitting and waiting around for something.
"And who says I'll let you follow me around? What are you, a lost puppy?" The boy answered back.
"Funny. Now shut up."
"Fine. Whatever. But we're leaving as soon as it stops raining. And by the way, Mon, I don't trust you."
"Nacomah."
"Alright, Nacomah. Uh, I'm Shafik."
And so the two spent three years traveling and gaining skills to aid in their travels, now Shafik is 17 on his way to 18 and the two have become inseperable.
why you want a mon:
I don't know what drew me in at first..the species maybe? The design? But I actually think the whole creature, concept, colors, and the ideas that sprung into my mind the moment I saw this Mon. He looked like a happy fellow, not the smartest or kindest, but with a heart of gold and an enduringly humorous personality. And with that you couldn't even imagine how smitten I was by then so of course I just had to try out. I've never had a dragon-like character and with this guy's handsome blue coat and firey markings, well, I think he'd be worth the effort.
how much is this mon worth to you (would you make a character page, make art ect...):
I actually have a character thread named Ven's Place, but it's a huge WIP. But don't judge me for that, as I don't really have tons and tons of characters. I'm just in the process of getting refs and pictures to put up with each character of mine. I love each of them, and this guy would be no exception from that love. I will of course draw him in my spare time, expand his personality and maybe fill out a nice background and story-line for him. I also want to try my hand at animating in the the future, and who knows? There's a huge chance this lovely fellow will be my star pupil for that task.
