What is a Story Spirit?
Yearofdragon wrote:A Story Spirit is a manifestation of knowledge and imagination that takes the form of a dragon, they’re often found in libraries, universities, and schools. But it isn’t uncommon for them to be found in any place where books can be found! These little cat sized creatures live inside the stories of the books that they surround themselves with, this often effects what form and design that they take on.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This little Spirit seems to be fond of Dictionaries and encyclopedias, especially the older ones!
this curious little fellow is always looking up new words, and would love to float over to inspire you in any way that he can!
This spirit also comes with a cute little concept chibi that I based his design off of :D

this spirit is now owned by Jendalie!

Spirit's Name:
Bry
(short for Bryophyta)

Short personality:
Inquisitive: Bry, being of curious nature, is always seeking to learn more about the world around him. His old dictionaries are forever a fascination to him and the wonder held within.

Jovial: He is of a cheerful disposition. Happiest surrounded by his books, he can be downright giddy at times.

Persnickety: He is very a bit picky and something of a perfectionist. This can be either good or bad...depending on how you look at it. Poor thing starts to say words aloud until they don't seem to make any sense sometimes. He appreciates a neat and tidy library. His favorite books are some of the most organized pieces of literature around and he wishes to reflect this in his daily life.

Indi <33

The Amethyst Crow. Actually, the crow part is from a book! I'm so glad that there is finally an adopt based on books <33

    Spirit's chosen gender:
Male- This cheerful fellow is totally male in my eyes.

    Spirit's name:
I would name this little guy Indices, which is inspire in Latin (the most scholarly language, in my opinion). This comes from his need to always tell me new words as I'm writing. He sort of inspires me, in a way, so I decided to name his after that c: Indices is a bit long, so you can call him Indi for short.

    Short personality:
Indi is almost always cheerful. He loves helping others, and will do just about everything he can to give them ideas. That's what he does best- he likes telling me and other little ideas for their stories. A little, 'What about the word whisper ?' here or there, and your stories will look like they were done by a professional. He can be grumpy sometimes, though, especially when he is ignored. Possibly his biggest fault is that he hates it when he isn't listened to and something bad come of it. He'll prance around, floating through things, ignoring whatever you tell him to do, until eventually he admits that you got what you needed and will grudgingly at first become friends once again. Usually, Indices is composed and regal, never really acting childish. He has a clear mind, and will never object to a bit of philosophy- he likes solving issues and problems. Indi is quite a sneaky spirit and can sometimes be found silently floating away to his own personal business.

    How I met him:
It was one of those cold, rainy days when it's just perfectly dreadful to go outside, but you're stuck inside with nothing to do. I tried to draw, which failed. Next I attempted to read one of my books, but I had just read it, or so it seems. Finally I decided ot try to write.
I sat in front of the keyboard, fingers gently tapping the keys, looking for an idea. All my started stories sounded so boring and I wanted something new. The problem was, I couldn't think of anything. Flopping backwards into my spinney chair, I let out a long deep sigh. For some reason, writer's block had been coming to me more frequently now then ever before. It was simple enough really- I just didn't have any ideas. I did actually have a wisp of one, something to do with a tree, but nothing else had come to me so far and so I sat there, lazily, staring off into space.
The most boring time in my life could have possibly continued, but luckily I decided to go out and do something or I would have died of boredom. I trudged down to the library, my head low and my hands tucked in my pockets. I wasn't depressed, I was just thinking. I almost walked right into the library's large glass doors and managed to trip over the doorframe. That would be me, clumsy as ever.
I peeked down the 'Research' section and pulled out one fat dictionary. There was a cozy chair in the corner and I took it; setting the book down on my lap. When I was comfortable, I opened the book to a random page. Sometimes, this helped me get inspiration, because I saw a word that I didn't know. I'm not sure exactly why it helped, but it did, and now was one time to try it. I opened the book about less then halfway, and looked at the first thing that came up.
Ethereal
1. of or relating to the regions beyond the earth
2. lacking material substance
3. marked by unusual delicacy or refinement

Ethereal... it wasn't a word I though about very often. My mind once again sparked to life and a bit of a plotline began running through my head. It wasn't enough for a story, and I flipped again, this time near the end.
Ray flower
1. one of the marginal flowers of the head in a composite plant (as the aster) that also has disk flowers
2. the entire head in a plant (as chicory) that lacks disk flowers

I had no idea what disk heads were, but the Ray flower made my story complete. Under my breath, I murmured some ideas- name ideas. "Sefia- maybe Xafia? Hmm... Eppe?" I found myself talking to nothing, though even through that I felt someone was there. Listening.
"So, I had this idea- something about a tree and a summoning horn. The tree would have ray flowers growing around it- and they would symbolize people that had been turned into trees. The main character- say her name is Max for now, realized this, and at about the same time, someone else finds this horn. A boy, I think- his name will be Glint. Anyway- somehow, they get caught up in an adventure, and at the end, they find out that the people are some sort of shaman or such and teach them magic. Oh, and Max is going to loose her fingertips."
And then from behind me, out of the corner of my eyes, there was a wisp of some sort. It was like a shadow. Slowly, while I turned my head around, it took shape. A small dragon, no bigger then my hand, took shape and floated over to my shoulder. I must have looked bewildered, because he made a sound, a laugh, like tinkling bells.
How about Glint's sister is an evil enchantress in disguise? His voice was high, but refined and delicate. Something told me it was in my mind, because when I looked around, nobody had noticed, the shadowy dragon either.
"A-ah- well... I guess that would work?"
I'm Indices, by the way. Call me Indi.
"Inspire-" I muttered softly.
He smiled, at my shoulder still. So, when do you start writing?

Spirit's chosen gender: Male
Spirit's Name: Sarus
Short personality: You would think that one from dictionaries would be wise and kind, yes? Not for Sarus! Sarus is a cunning, shrewd Story Spirit, using his vast knowledge of vocabulary to fiddle with his opponent's brains. He is tricky and gregarious, and loves to see people faulter at his witty word decisions. (I used the biggest words I know for this :'D)
extra (a song, story, poem, art, etc.): WIP~

Spirit's chosen gender
Male

Spirit's Name:
Sohwen
(so-WHEN)

Short personality
He loves using large words although it makes him have to dumb himself down for others sometimes. Sohwen is really light-hearted and makes friends easily. When he bonds, he wants to find a writer to be a muse for. Sohwen wants to help a young writer get over his or her fear of 'big words' and use a thesaurus occasionally.

Extra
The pages flip.
The words fly.
Sohwen watches it all.

Outdated facts from
Old encyclopedias
Fill his mind.

Sohwen soaks it all up,
Taking it all in,
Waiting to use it for inspiration.

Next come the dictionaries,
Showing the change in our speech
Over a long period of time.

Sohwen's head perks up
As a person comes his way.
A young writer, no doubt.

Floating over, he hovers nearby.
He whispers his findings in her ear
So she can create something new from the old.
