Story: “What can I say? I love sales. Who doesn’t – it’s the best part of holidays! On February 14th, everything is so overpriced. But on the 15th – that is another story…”
Felix is and was lazy when it comes to Valentines. Sure, some pretty lizards had caught his eye, but he didn’t have enough gumption to ask them on a date. So, as a result to his hesitance, he spent Valentines alone.
On the day after Valentines, stores were beginning to take down chubby cupids started putting up Easter bunnies’ and chocolate filled eggs. Felix didn’t seem to mind. He was strolling through the sales, sniffing chocolate and reading conversation hearts. And then he saw her. She was the most beautiful lizard he had ever seen – skidding across the slick floor on her little paws. It might sound corny, but it was like she fell, slow motion. Her large eyes flickered over to Felix’s as she screamed. Felix pounced on his opportunity to introduce himself. Marching up confidently, Felix opened his mouth to speak, when he lost his footing too!
As he yelled, a large, foil heart fluttered down from the ceiling, covering the two lizards completely. Dizzy, they both cautiously began to pick themselves up – Without looking. Lifting their heads at almost the exact same time, they came nose-to-nose. They automatically blushed and turned away, stammering apologies.
“Are you Okay?” Felix asked softly. He felt the overwhelming urge to just run away from this beautiful chameleon, but he was afraid he would fall on the wet floor again. She nodded; her cheeks were still red with a creeping blush. Felix decided to help her with her groceries – at exactly the same time she started to pick them up. Their heads crashed mid-stoop. “I’m so sorry!” Moaned Felix, “Are you Okay? I didn’t mean…” His expression which was that of concern had changed to horror – why he made the little female cry!
But she wasn’t crying, she was laughing. Tears spilling down her cheeks as a syrupy, warm laugh escaped her mouth. Finally she had a chance to speak. “Yes, ‘m alright, thanks.” She tilted her head, staring at him curiously. Felix realized those were tears of mirth and, relaxing, started picking up her groceries. And then, without speaking, he turned down an aisle, scanning shelves for sales.
“Hey!” The girl followed him, her tail twitching slightly with amusement. “Where’re you goin’?” Felix turned and glanced at her, he felt defeated.
“I’m looking for sales…” He hesitated. The girl scanned him and then shrugged, following him still.
“I never apologized.” She said. Her accent was thick. “I’m sorry I hit your head with mine – and that I didn’t read the “wet floooor” sign.” She chuckled.
“You are?” Felix questioned. He turned and smiled at her, a twenty-five cent rose in his claw. “I’m not.”
