Username: Kite
Cat name: Azo [ah . zoh]
Meaning Behind the Name: The definition of an azo is containing a nitrogen group, especially one attached at both ends in a covalent bond to other groups. Ive chosen this to be his name because of two reasons:
The first reason is that the moment I laid eyes on him, I felt like I bonded with him already, even if he is just a drawing. Those colors bring me back to when I was a kid in Boston, and went parading through the wet woods like a tiger, pretending to roar at people passing by and embarrassing my parents like crazy. These colors together were the heart and soul of the woods, dark, mysterious, green and mossy. They are really stunning together and compliment eachother nicely.
The second reason is that I feel he would fit right in with my other characters, and complete them, like a neutron in a neutron cluster. My characters are all either canines or equines, but I have yet to find a beautiful feline to join them.
Gender: Male
Why do you want him:I was looking through the created pets forum, because I felt it was my time to adopt a jelly bean dragon before it gets too out of hand. I was looking at one design for a JBD that was orage, like many of the other ones, and right below it was this marvelous creature. I instanly fell in love with it, and I think it is because of the fact that there are no other adopts out there quite like this one. The color scheme, the brindling of the green and brown together, the soft tan eyes. Something about it just stood out from the crowd like a beacon through the darkness.
I clicked on him and decided to enter. I feel like I can give this sweet little friend a good home with my other few characters. I try to keep as little characters as possibly so that each one is special to me, and I can order as much art as I can for each of them, instead of having lots and lots of characters and adopts with only one art piece each for them. I'd love to draw this little guy if I win him, and I may make some art of him to enter in this contest!
Azo would be my first Marble Cat, and since I adore Adillion's art, that would be really special <3
Short Story:Azo skipped along the meadow green, looking for something interesting to catch his gazing eye as the morning ripened. He sniffed the petals of flowers, damp with dew and brimming with life. The trees ebbed away from the clearing he was in, leaving a wide open space to practice flying as his mother told him to do when he was little, and the grass eminated with moist air, leaving his feet sticky and matted. He picked a good spot on top of a rise in the land to begin the self-taught flying lessons, and he began to flap his wings. They whispered back at him as he scorned them for being so fragile and dainty, although he enjoyed being light and able to prance with the breeze on warm days.
His front feet pranced up in the air as Azo started the lift-off stage, as he called it, trying to get some flight, but his back feet stayed planted on the ground. Nearby rabbits and a flock of sparrows chuckled softly at his attempts, but his hearing was spectacular and he heard every word that was said. He sighed and ended his flying session, afraid of being abused further. He began to sulk home but suddenly, out of the blue, a wild goose ran headlong into his rear and knocked him clean off the bump and into the dirt below. Azo thanked the lucky stars nothing had been broken, and he turned around to warn the unlawful creature that he had claws, but he looked up to see a startling fright. A hunter was coming through the brush, gun in hand and snorting dog at his feet. Azo looked back at the goose, and saw its wing was shot through, leaving him flightless and vulnerable. He scurried to the goose and small as he was, got the goose's attention. The little marble cat looked up and asked:
'Do you need any help, goose?' with a worried expression, and his mind working to think up an escape for his newfound friend.
The goose replied: "If you would be so kind, I'm king of in a tricky situation,' he said with raspy breath and straining eyes. "My flock was just flying over the area and I felt a pain in my wing, and fell to the ground. Now this human is after me with his mutt. I'm dead meat for sure!" He struggled to flap his wings but fell to the ground, in pain.
'Calm down,' the little marble cat said urgently. 'You are attracting the hunter's attention. Just... just stay here and keep low. I'll figure something out...'
Azo was formulating a plan in his head as he spoke, and he trotted off at a brisk pace, ready to confront the man and his beast.
As he got closer to the oncoming dog, he finally got it, but he needed to fly, and fast. Putting all the thoughts of the woodland creatures making fun of his awful flying out of his head, and beating his thin wings harder than ever before, he suddenly felt himself lurch out of the grass for a split second, only to find himself sinking back to the ground. He was close, but he needed a final boost, and he knew how. He pulled a marsh daisy back on itself, so the petals were touching the ground, and the stem bent and ready to spring. He carefully got on, still holding tight to a blade of grass... and let go. The spring of the daisy sent him flying through the air, and he began beating his wings once more. He found that he was propelled on only his own will now, and twisted with joy and bliss. He soared free and unaided through the moist air, heading straight for the dog, who was almost upon his hurt goose friend, who was doing exactly what he was told and lying low.
Azo speed up, heading at full speed at the dog's eye. He finally got close enough that the dog sighted him, and completely ingnored him.
'Well,' thought Azo. 'This mutt may be more stupid than I first thought!'
Azo circled around the dog's head, trying to annoy him and get him off target. The dog snapped at the poor marble cat, and Azo just barely dogded his loathing trap. Azo was furious and impatient, at that, and flew right into the dogs eye, causing the dog to yelp and stagger back, looking around with one open eye. Azo got an idea, and flew straight at the dog's other eye, blinding his vision for at least a little while. The hunter, unknowing of all of this, looked at the dog who started racing in another direction, away from the clever marble cat, and took off after him mutt, yelling:
"Where'd he go, Max, where'd he go boy? We're gonna have a might big dinner tonight, huh?' and his voice faded off into the woods.
The dog whimpered terrified of the creatures this wood held, and raced into the forest green.
Azo turned back to tend to his poor friend, the goose. The goose was panting, and full of nerves.
"Is the hunter gone, friend?" He panted, his wing limp on the grassy ground.
"The hunter is gone, goose," Azo said proudly, knowing that today he had not only learned to successfully fly, but saved a life. As the two walked tiredly through the meadow, talking about good healing meathods for wounds, Azo shot a smug look at the rabbits and sparrows that had poked fun at him earlier, who were watching with awe as the spectacle unfolded.
Today had been a great day.

Where the Sidewalk Ends
from the book "Where the Sidewalk Ends"
by Shel Silverstein (1974)
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
and before the street begins,
and there the grass grows soft and white,
and there the sun burns crimson bright,
and there the moon-bird rests from his flight
to cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
and the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
we shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow
and watch where the chalk-white arrows go
to the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
and we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
for the children, they mark, and the children, they know,
the place where the sidewalk ends.
