Arctic Kilid: Breeding

Postby RPFLightMyFire » Mon Dec 10, 2012 12:39 pm

Owner: SerenWish
Name: Somerled (Somer)
Origin of name: Scottish form of the Old Norse name 'Sumarlidr', meaning "Summer Traveler". Choose this name because I can imagine this guy trekking in a sunlit snowy world, headed for warmth, his flecked coat standing out against the snow and ice.
Personality: Somerled was actually a very fearful and clingy colt, staying near his dam at all times- until he was one day forced to fend for himself, and learned to be independent. Now he tries to care for himself more, and insists on helping his dam paw for food and tries to protect her as well. While he will always love his dam, he has begun to distance himself some, slowly, and spends much of his day running about to strengthen his body and determination. He's a bit stubborn now, and can't stand getting teased.
(Future Personality)Somer is an adventurer, tried and true. He applies himself with everything he's got, and can't stand to let himself buckle under any sort of pressure.
He is fond of "playing the hero" and will go to great length for a mare that has caught his eye- and he enjoys catching the eyes of mares with his handsome coat and physique.
Story:

Fog rose from flaring nostrils as the gangly colt struggled to push his way through the snow- when had the drifts gotten so tall? He wanted to go home, to his spot curled up right against his dam's warm side, where she would lick any wayward hairs back into place and shield him from the bitter wind. He sniffed once, pinning his ears back as he lowered his neck against the wind that was brushing his side, feeling all bottled-up with anger. Angry at the snow, angry at the wind, angry at himself for letting another colt convince him to walk to the Raw-tooth Glacier all by himself, to prove that he was a big strong colt. He certainly was not big a strong, and he realized that now! He wanted to be his mother's little champion again, not a tired, damp, and shivering foal out amonst the drifts and ice!

He blew past numb lips, and continued to press forward, when he heard a 'crack' beneath his weight. Suddenly his world was turned upside down as he tumbled down, hooves flailing, sliding into a natural bowl beneath the ice- an air pocket beneath too-thin ice that had broken under his weight combined with wet, heavy snow. Somerled raised his head and snuffled, before nickering loudly, his call echoing in the ice-pit. "It isn't fair-r-r! I want to go home-e-e!" He cried out, before letting his head droop, sniffling miserably, seated in a very awkward fashion. It really wasn't fair! He was a baby, he didn't have as thick a coat as his parents, and he deserved to be back with his mother! This was not his fault- was it? The colt spent a few long, bitter minutes considering this, before breathing out slowly, a cloud of fog curling from his maw as he did so. "This is...my fault... Momma's not going to help me...." He glanced up at the blue sky, turning purple now with twilight, and fashioned his resolve, before clambering to his hooves and dashing at the sloped sides, sliding down only a few feet in his ascent. He scowled, stomping a shale-like hoof, before halting- he could use that, couldn't he?

The colt approached the walls again, and instead of running up, he focused his strength into digging his hooves a bit in as he stepped up, climbing slowly but steadily up the side. His young muscles quivered with the effort, but he grunted and pushed on, his body warming up due to the intense exercise. He scrambled out finally, and let out a blow- it felt good to be done! He was sore, and tired, and still cold- but inwardly, he felt better. He had done this- all by himself. He looked up at the now indigo sigh, and let out a little sigh of relief. He'd done it! He'd really done it! He turned back, more careful with his hooves, before his heart leapt at the sight of a silvery-cream figure approaching in the dusk. "Momma!" He squealed joyfully, taking off to great his mother under the freshly awoken stars.
