Your favourite thing about her:
Easily her horns. I absolutely love the white spots you made on them, to where they resemble the night sky on a clear night. Those sold me.
Will you breed her?
Probably, if it becomes available and I find her a suitable mate~
Definitely breeding her! I was stupid and missed the Breeding thread XD
She'd be paired with my stallion Orion <3
Bayou Kelpie name:
Zona
Latin word meaning "girdle".
"Zona" is also the name of the three stars that make up the belt of the constellation Orion.
Bayou Kelpie age:
3 1/2 years
Bayou Kelpie Height:
15hh
Any thing else?
Art:
Will definitely make art if I have the time <3
Poem:
I'll edit if I get an idea worth anything. *Artist, not a poet XD*
Song:
Her theme is "Show Me What I'm Looking For" by Carolina Liar. [link]
For her and Orion, it would be "I'm Not the One" by 3OH!3. [link]
Story:
Zona had never been perfect. No matter what the elders said, she just hadn't been.
The young mare walked with her head low, keeping to the bushes around the area where the others grazed contentedly. She looked at their perfect, long horns, and the way that they were able to use them so easily. One of the mares tilted their head back to soothe an itch, and Zona felt another pang of sadness. It was difficult for her to do anything like that without either hurting her neck or over compensating for her stunted left horn.
Now? Now it was well known. Her imperfections could now be seen. As if she hadn't had enough trouble before this.
"Hey Brokenhorn, why don't you go ask mommy how perfect you aren't?"
"How many of the herd have you sucked up to?"
She could still hear their voices taunting her.
Whipping away, Zona took off into the underbrush. Her heavy hoofbeats were muffled by the soggy marsh, her ears pinning back as her red eyes quickly adjusted to the falling darkness. She galloped until she hit the cliffs, easily climbing onto her favorite miniature peak. She slid to a halt and reared, just in time to see the last rays of sunlight disappear beyond the horizon. Her breathing slowed quickly, her muscles slowly relaxing as only silence filled the air around her.
Hours passed, Zona just watching the stars as they shifted across the sky. Finally she noticed the sun was rising behind her; another sleepless night. That made three in a row. Turning back, she finally began to trudge her way back to the small herd. But as she made it there, the taunting began again.
"Brokenhorn is back! Hey, have an itch?" How could someone so beautiful be such a horrible Kelpie? Zona's ears pinned back as she turned to look at the white horse; she was the most beautiful in the herd. Well, or so it was said. Her snow-colored coat was always clean and bright, and her curly mane fell elegantly around her neck, but she had always been second to Zona in the eyes of the stallions. And Zona had never really done anything to be put in first. Because of that, the white mare made every day a living nightmare for Zona. And standing beside her? The stallion she had always liked.
"Leave her alone, Deya," he piped up.
"But Orion, baby," she pouted. It had been rumored that Orion had taken Deya to be his mate. I figured that was true, Zona thought bitterly, moving towards the river. But, to her surprise, Orion left Deya to follow the appaloosa-marked mare to the water's edge.
"Ignore Deya. She's just jealous," he said.
"Why don't you go on back to your mate? I'm sure she'd love to rub that in my face, too."
"Mate? Who, Deya?" Orion laughed honestly, and Zona looked up at him in confusion. "Deya isn't my mate. She likes to think I'm hers, but I won't fall for her trickery," he said, tail swatting a fly.
"Y-you're not?" She stuttered, embarrassed that she had believed that rumor and told the apparent bachelor.
"Of course not," he grinned charmingly. "Besides, even if I was, why would she rub it in your face?" Zona didn't answer. "Is it because you like me, or because you like me?" He teased, nipping her mane. She gave a tiny rear in protest, but couldn't help but smile. "I see that smile," he said, giving a small laugh as he took a drink from the crystal waters.
"So," she said sheepishly. "How did you know?"
"I've seen you staring," he said coolly, wiping the excess water on his knee. "Like the time I was sparring with the dark stallion, the one that had been hanging out with Deya. I caught glimpses of you staring at me, and you looked quite happy in the endeavor." If she could've blushed, then Zona's cheeks would have been bright red. "It's alright though," Orion said quickly. He pressed his shoulder against hers. "I like having your attention."
Zona smiled. "Is that you suggesting something?" She teased, having a moment of unnatural bravery.
"Only if you'll have me," he touched noses with her, smiling softly instead of his typical boyish grin.
Zona returned the gesture of affection eagerly. "I would love to have you as my mate," she whispered, hoping desperately that all of this really was real, because if it wasn't, she'd probably die from heartbreak. She nuzzled him again, ignoring the shocked gasp of another mare behind them before her white form stomped off, showing how bad tempered she surely could be.
"I do have one question, though," he murmured.
"Hm?" Zona sighed happily.
"What did happen to your horn? I heard quite a few rumors, but nothing ever concrete."
Zona sighed unhappily, looking up at him. "Deya broke it. Well, not so much her as the dark stallion. She was tired of hearing so much about me and how 'perfect' I was that she conned him into attacking me. I had three bite marks and my horn was broken. The bites healed, but you can't regrow a horn," she murmured sadly. "Ever since then that's all they've focused on is making me feel like I was some sort of freak for my injury."
Orion gave a small laugh. "A freak? My sire didn't have any horns! Now he was a freak, but my mother loved him just the same."
"He didn't?" Zona asked.
"Naw. It was some sort of rare disorder where the horns didn't grow when he hit adolescence. It wasn't genetic or anything, it was just he was born with a calcium deficiency or something. The winter had been harsh and the spring came late. But anyways, the horn doesn't matter to me," he crooned, nuzzling her again. "It only makes you unique."
Zona smiled; At least one thing had worked out for her. And now, with Orion by her side, she had a feeling that the rest of her luck would change too.
What do you think the marking on the nose is?:
It looks like an apron face.
