Duvee's Information

Postby Shenan_the_cat » Tue Oct 23, 2012 4:23 am

Owner: Shenan_the_cat
Rat Name: Duvee (pronounced Dove-ee)
Gender: Female
Personality:
Duvee is a very sleepy girl and spends most of her time napping away the hours. When she is awake Duvee can be rather nervous around people, not quite shy enough to hide from them but cautious never the less, and tends not to like being picked up. Her disliking for being handled is only really because she thinks your going to change her bedding or tidy up her cage while she’s not around. Although, when you finally do get this girl up and into your hands, she mostly only allows people she’s familiar with to do this, Duvee loves nothing more than a cuddle. Duvee has never really been around other rats before, being an only ratlet living in a big cage on top of the cupboard, so how she would react is unknown but, having never been attacked or anything before, she should have no reason to be frightened of them.
Quirks:
Duvee only ever eats the round pieces of food out of her little red food dish, and leaves the rest behind. This is because the jagged edged pieces don’t fit in her mouth as well and she can’t store as many of them when she needs to. The rounder pieces of food, often coming as green, brown or orange pellets, fit in snugly and Duvee makes it her challenge each day to fit at least five in her mouth before carrying them away to her big plastic house.
Story:
The Normal Morning Routine

Duvee opened her eyes with a nostril-widening sniff, her thin, white whiskers twitching as she caught the scent of her freshly piled food. She sat up alertly and her head ducked as it came in contact with the ceiling, the plastic rat house was becoming cramped and the ceiling above Duvee’s head seemed to be lowering. It wasn’t, of course, the young female ratlet must have been on a growth spurt.

Another brush with the slanted, fake-chimney-pot-holding roof and Duvee ducked lower until she was in the position she’d started in. Her body almost arched to keep the warmth of her stomach fur close and her tail flopped over her back almost as if it were out of place; a comfy position for a ratlet of Duvee’s size. Suddenly, comfy position forgotten, and much like she’d never been asleep in first place Duvee got to her paws, raising her body as much as the space would allow her to. The wafting smell of food had gotten to her dark brown nose once again.

Like a natural born hunter the ratlet slunk from her house, rattling it as she tried to fit herself through the small opening, and headed for where she knew the food bowl would be. She clonked the house back as it was dragged forward by her tail then continued on to the other side of the cage, ploughing through shoulder high saw-dust. The food bowl was half buried in saw-dust in the far corner, as to avoid it being tipped, and kicked all around the cage. Duvee was by it in no time, her cream clawed front paws reaching over the rim.

Duvee screwed up her nose and grumbled a squeak at the amount of dusty brown or green food bits piled high in the bowl, with a paw she knocked the few from the top of her mound. The few of them dinked against the metal of the cage but failed to slip between the bars. Ignoring the noise Duvee went on slipping the rounded bits of food into her cheeks.

She hardly stopped to take a breath and in a matter of minutes her mouth was full to burst, Duvee reminding herself that when the bowl became empty it was sure to be re-filled later. With this in mind she carried her hoard from the mostly empty, bar the rough, or just not round pieces, bowl and set a course for her house. A few bits slipped from between her teeth but Duvee didn’t bother to pick them up again, the gap they’d one been in had been taken up by other pellets wanting more space. She spat the rest through the opening of her house and the clattered down with a clonk. Abruptly she covered the pile with bedding, as to make her owner suspect she’d eaten her previous load, ten rolled over the entire lot. Lying on her back, her bedding ‘pillow’ now being pushed up by the lumps, Duvee smiled to herself. She’d go back for more food later.
