{Episode One; Meeting Cristal}
Grenada was born to a young mare named Nadja. Nadja was beautiful, a liquid golden color with a white bird beak and pale brown eyes. Grenada's father was very different. He was old, the boss stallion of their herd, with a grizzled grey coat. The only thing young about him was his eyes. They were deep brown, and they sparkled with joy. Grenada inherited most of her physical and mental genes from her father.
Grenada grew up, being taught the ways of the world by her young mother.
"Now, Grenada." she would say, narrowing her grey eyes. "When you turn two, you must be ready for a mate. Your father has already decided you will end up with Sebastian. Do not mess this up."
But Grenada did not want to listen. She hated her life, hated her mother who wanted her to be perfect and live a normal life. Grenada wanted to run, fly high into the sky and follow the path of the sun to a faraway land. When she was one and a half years old, she was introduced to Sebastian. He was handsome, with a chocolate brown coat and a tail that held a plume of fire above it. She was intrigued by this tail, and asked him about it. Laughing, he replied:
"I am not one of your kind. I am a Fyrinic, as the two-walkers call my kind." he explained, which only led to further questions. Sebastian answered every one of Grenada's questions, except the ones about the two-walkers.
"What are they? Where to they live?" she asked, but Sebastian only shook his head.
"You are too young to know such things yet." he said, getting up and shaking out his mahogany-colored coat. Sighing, Grenada watched him leave. This was when she decided to follow him. Taking off, she watched him from the cover of a cumulus cloud until he started to head towards the open plains.
Undaunted, Grenada climbed higher and higher into the sky until she was merely a pinpoint in the sky. There she observed the world below her. She could see the tiny dot of Sebastian running across the plains, her herd, and, off in the distance, a sharp spire that poked the sky. This must have been one of the two-walker machines!
She quickly flew towards the spire, its metal frame coming into view. It was huge! The sheer walls of metal seemed to be smooth. Grenada gulped. She gave the thing a wide berth, landing near a tree that didn't have any leaves. Intrigued, she walked between two 'trees' and into a wide enclosure. Spotting a couple of Skylorics, she bounded over.
"Hello!" she whinnied, trotting over to a pretty white mare heavy with foal. The mare looked up, and smiled.
"Hello. Are you one of the new Docksen?" she asked.
Grenada furrowed her brown. "What? What's a Docksen?" she asked.
The mare, however, did not reply. Grenada followed her gaze to a figure coming towards them. Panicking, she shot into the air, only to find a strong but soft net bar her escape to the sky.
"Come back down. She won't hurt you." the mare called, trotting up to the figure and nuzzling the dark cloak. Curious, Grenada flew a bit lower. The figure laughed, throwing off the cape and enveloping the mare in a hug.
Grenada shook her mane angrily before landing. She would give this two-walker a piece of her mind. Taking a deep breath, she charged straight for the girl. To her surprise, the white mare wheeled, kicking up dust, and planted herself in front of the girl, bellowing.
"Don't you dare try to hurt Ian!" the mare growled, pinning her ears to her head. Startled, Grenada took an involuntary step back. A stallion watching from the corner bugled with laughter, and Grenada snorted before walking away to graze.
{Episode Two; Cristals' Foals}
Grenada had quickly grown attached to the two-walker girl the white mare had protected. She learned many things in her first few months. The mare, named Cristal, taught Grenada knowledge of the world. Grenada, always told she was 'too young' to know this and that, rapidly began to adore the young mare.
It wasn't long until Cristal gave birth, a healthy young stallion frolicking by her side. No longer the plump round mare Grenada reckognised, Cristal quickly became slimmer with excersize. Grenada loved Cristal more than she had loved anyone else in the entire world. Shaking her head to clear her thoughs, Grenada turned her head to look back at Cristal grazing a few feet away in the lush grass. She'd grown fond of the mare, and she absolutely spoiled Cristal's foal, Odettu. She'd met his father once, Tazer was a tall, intimidanting stallion, but she could see that Cristal had feelings for him.
Grenada caught sight of Cristal staring wistfully at Butcher's Glory, the stallion owned by Oddly Shaded, and harumphed.
Well, at least she used to have thoughts for Tazer. she thought irritably. Lately she'd spotted the mare pining over Butcher from the top of the hill. Galloping over, she stopped beside the white mare.
"Why don't you just go over and talk to him? Maybe next year you'll have his foal." Grenada joked. Only a few months ago had she learned how foals came to be, and it disgusted but fascinated her. She wondered how her mother had managed to give birth. It seemed like a very painful thing.
"Grenada!" Cristal said sharply, but her blue eyes were laughing. She chased the younger filly around the paddock, much to the amusment of her son, now a young Docksen, and Sol, the boss stallion of their herd. Suddenly, Cristal stopped playing as Ian entered the field.
"Whats the matter with you?" Grenada whispered, frightened by her friends' change of demeanor. Normally Cristal didn't mind Ian, now she seemed almost frightened of the human.
"I think Ian is going to give me away. I don't want to leave, I love it here, and I couldn't bear to leave my son. I think she's going to take me to the summer farm. I don't want to go!" Cristal whickered fearfully. Grenada was stunned.
"She wouldn't do that!" the filly said indignantly, shaking her mane and snorting.
"Ian is a good human, and takes care of us. She loves us all, I bet she wouldn't think of ever sending you away!" Grenada was shocked that she was defending her owner against Cristal of all Docksen. She smiled softly.
"Come on, Cristal. Ian won't give you away." she said gently, coaxing the skittish mare to eat. As night fell, Grenada heard Butcher approach the fence. Maybe Cristal would have another foal, after all. Grenada smiled as she pictured little Odettu's that she could spoil, and she fell into a deep, satisfying sleep.
