Taziva is a name that has been concocted out of different words to form this Shimmer Rune's final name that is fitting for the little girl. The first part is Taziv, a sanskrit word for brilliant. Both for the fact that she shimmers and glows as well as the fact that she is brilliant in the way she steals objects and somehow manages to make them disappear. I mean... really, just how does she do that? Where does it all go? The second part comes from Zivar, a Persian name that means an ornament of gems, gold, or silver. Both fit perfectly for her physical looks and personality, fitting in that which she loves to collect in there.
Besides the fitting name and the lovely combination they make, it also has some great nicknames, among them are Taz, Ziv, and my favorite and most often used... Tazzy. As Tiddly Wink's sister, Tazzy seems like a very fitting name to go with her sister and match it both in alliteration and they are both just fun to say together X3
Tiddly Winks and Tazzy!

Female

Skeseth aka Rune Bearer Evelyn

In my signature, in my character thread, on the forum, but can't be kept tied down because she's got a lot of thieving to do to pile up her hoard. And of course in my heart.

I had a choice of four /amazing/ babies to choose from, when I wasn't even planning on trying at first, so naturally it was a hard choice. The first, even before seeing the babies, was the Varren rune for obvious reasons. While he fits in with my runes and the fact that it is ME, I noticed there were others that seemed to be a better choice when considering the other two runes I owned and will likely own in the future-- more ME inspired babies from hopeful breedings if we can catch a slot, among other possibilities. There definitely needs variety with a touch of insanity that seems to be attracted to my rune bearer Evelyn (or rather myself) and that definitely can be seen in the Shimmer Rune.
I saw many scenarios with all the runes in my head, both little ideas between my own runes or stories. But the Shimmer is the one that really stuck out there. Not only is she gorgeous in a more simplistic way without an amazing amount of edits or details, bringing a calm to my runes that way. I'd be lying if her parents didn't have a say, and besides the fact that I adore those two Runes, Gadzooks has the steampunk look that brings the mechanical theme of my runes together-- sure, Tazzy doesn't but she does have the cog and the parentage to fit in nicely with the Portal (and Reaper, when he is around to torment).
Another reason I loved is the fact that she glows/shimmers. All my runes may have a sort of glowing quality to them, but the fact that it is a good idea to keep her close and I can imagine that golden shimmer to be a calming warmth of a glow, it would help with the darker days that Evelyn has to deal with. She spends a lot of her time out, alone, and in the dark, and would need the most loyal of companions. Norina has that companionship quality to her when she is not plotting something, though the Reaper Rune has affected her somehow as both being mechanical. Also, with her crippling fear of claustrophobia, it helps to have a more calming rune around her... you know, when she's not stealing stuff. And I forgot to add: She is FLUFFY. That is, she is definitely that softness that is missing in all of Evelyn's runes, a companion that she could actually find physical comfort in as well
The last reason is that I, myself, LOVE shiny things (and so does Evelyn), and I find it endearing to have a character like that... sort of that cute frustrating thing that ferrets do. Not to mention SHE is shiny as well. I totally want to just grab her and run myself, as if I were Tazzy

Though I'm sure that Tazzy will take her thieving to another level entirely and just as all my runes present a challenge and keep my character busy, so will Tazzy be to Evelyn. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and falls into the same pattern of her fortune. I loved that and of course, the
second after I finally got to read her description it immediately sprung to my head. The Thief from The Thief and the Cobbler. After just recently watching the movie, it's been stuck and I loved the fact that I felt some association to the movie as well. Add to thinking about Kasumi as well as a model for the personality and I think it's a perfect and fun combination.
(After judging is over and all, I must know if Jen had The Thief in mind even a little when creating this lovely rune! )
Drank my coffee, read the paper, now it's time to get to work. ~ The Thief (The Thief and the Cobbler)Taziva does not waste any time in her daily activities. She's a little thief alright, unable to resist anything shiny or anything with an interesting shape. If Norina gets in trouble for her mischievous experiments, Tazzy gets in trouble for taking anything that does not belong to her. And since she does such a great job of making things disappear, it's up to her rune bearer to figure out what excuse to make or to run-- and that is if what is stolen did not belong to her.
Nothing will stop Taziva from getting to a goal, and it is definitely a challenge to keep her in sight when going into town and where the temptation is too grand. Bells? She's a smart little thing, and eventually the baby shimmer rune may learn to remove those (and stash those shiny bells away wherever she is putting the rest of her hoard).
Everything hurts, why do I do this? What's the point... (sees the Three Golden Balls) Oh yeah! Pain's gone!(says next few lines slightly sinisterly) Feeling good...feeling fine... ~ The Thief (The Thief and the Cobbler)Nothing can stop Tazzy from getting to what she wants. She is stubborn and once she obsesses with something shiny then she will do everything she possibly can to be able to take it. It will be a challenge for her, as well as her rune bearer. Like The Thief from the movie, she will come up with the most insane ways to get from point A to point B, regardless of the fact that she has wings. Because of this, she will get into the most awkward of positions and will need help to get out of it. Hopefully it is something that she will grow out of someday.
“Tazzy,
how did you get all tangled up in that wiring up in that tree in the middle of no where with nothing but leaves and branches around here?”
As it is with most babies, Tazzy will need her rune bearer's help as much as her rune bearer will need her. She will get into the most impossible of situations, and not uncommonly she will also be hurt in these situations. Most of the time it is of no worry; she's resilient and definitely quick to get back on her feet, especially if she is chasing after something like a shiny. However, there are times when she pushes her boundaries or perhaps she chased after a shiny that did not belong to her and its owner was not going to relinquish it without a fight. These are the times where Evelyn will have to force her to back down, no matter the consequences. It may take awhile, but eventually Tazzy could be distracted by something new.
"I swear to God I didn't touch anything." ~ Kasumi Goto (Mass Effect)Oh, that sweet glassy glow of hers can almost get away with murder, and Tazzy tries to ham it up to everyone in order to get away with whatever she had done. Evelyn may eat it up most of the time, as Tazzy will be the first rune she could actually cuddle up with on cold dark nights camping out in the forest, but there are occasions when she will have to put her foot down. Such as when Taziva wants to go mess with Sovereign where he lurks, as she recently saw Evelyn taking him some pretty silver objects he was going to tinker with. She must get her hands on those... Regardless, Taziva is a close companion to Evelyn, and she will definitely be appreciative of it. Unlike the guidance she may get from Norina, who oftentimes sends her the wrong place, Tazzy will be her light in the darkness.
When things get rough whether from life without any job opportunities or nightmares the past (or present, which the Reaper Rune tends to do), Tazzy will be there. Evelyn has a crippling fear of small places, which also includes complete darkness as well as large crowds... Tazzy thankfully will be able to help there. And when things get particularly desperate... Evelyn could eventually teach Tazzy what it means to be a good thief (which is a skill Evelyn is sorely lacking in) and actually return the items that the Shimmer rune takes to her, instead of wherever she usually takes them off to. Maybe it's her sister, somewhere out there, where Tazzy goes when she's not around her new companions.
Too much quirkiness in a little bodyThere are many strange things that make up Tazzy... For one, being the little thief she is, she is not built to be subtle. Oh, she could make things disappear even if you were staring at it. Somehow. But how can a rune that glows actually manage to get away with it? Surprisingly the glow changes depending on her mood, or among other equally mystifying things. From blindingly bright (which really can be a pain to be near) to such a low dimness that one would barely know she was shimmering. No matter how nicely asked or how much needed it is, no one can actually force the degree of glow... ness to happen. It would be inconvenient if Evelyn brought her out at night into the city to try to try to find something to steal when no one is around, and Tazzy is instead a bright beacon, like a lighthouse, pointing directly at the thief. Or perhaps traveling in a system of caves and suddenly little Tazzy gets scared, her comforting glow plummeting them into near darkness (and no, Evelyn, the resulting bloody murder scream does not help Tazzy turn her shine back on).
Don't get her wrong, she still can disappear even if she is glowing. Sometimes she is lucky that it is not noticeable at all, but regardless she does an excellent job of just blending in and being overlooked. Like Kasumi, she is good about being graceful and getting into tight spots-- you have to, to be an excellent thief like hers. But there are moments where it is like The Thief, just clumsiness trying to get into what she wants to get. She's a smart girl, but it is the stubbornness that makes her rampage into things when she cannot get them by being smart-- if its a time constraint or just plain impossible, she will simply go in running and grab onto what she wants and nothing can stop her.
Even even stranger, whenever found with her sister Tiddly Winks, Taziva is actually completely opposite in the fact that she does not say a peep. It is hard to know they are actually related. Her sister might be able to chatter away, even speak to humans. But like The Thief, Tazzy is a strangely silent baby, likely running a long internal monologue as she analyzes everything around her and what she could steal next. That is, until things go wrong. It helps her get away with many of her prized treasures for her hoard, and then the sudden loud voice is a good defensive mechanism into scaring away predators. And loud she can squawk when she has a need to.
As a recent personal (kitty) quirk I've come to really love, I had to add it to the fluffy rune-- the first fluffy and first baby that Evelyn will come across. Tazzy loves cuddles. Which is a good thing for Evelyn as the poor woman is lacking greatly in them. Can you imagine her trying to get some cuddles out of Sovereign? The Reaper Rune would be done with her for sure if she even dared to try that. And those sharp edges... Taziva instead will butt her way up under Evelyn's chin, happy to curl up in the warmest of places against her skin, finding comfort in the close contact as well.
Making up my life
Killer in the night
Rattling my brains
Looking for that light
Shine, shine
Ah shine so bright, shine
~ INXS, Shine (funny thing about this 'song', I found the lyrics and was dying to listen to it but could not for the life of me find it anywhere... I spent days trying to find it, and it took me days to find any suitable song, so I shall treat this as a poem. Evenlyn looking for the light to calm her nightmares... I do like rather like this band I found through writing this form, though)
Everyone Needs A CompanionIt had been an unsuccessful trek into the city and Evelyn was returning “home” with empty hands and an empty stomach. She maneuvered her way through the forest in a zigzagging pattern, putting off returning back to her camp as much as possible. A whirring chatter brought her attention behind her before a flash of light announced the arrival of her companion.
“And where did you run off to? I could have used your help back there with your talents, Nori.” Evelyn turned to face said dragon, arms crossed. She expected to glare angrily at her mechanical friend and instead finds a furious rune dragon portaling in and out between the trees, as if trying to lose a tail. By the time she reaches the woman, she seems satisfied as she looks behind her. Taking the offered perch of an arm, the Portal rune gives a hiss of satisfaction as her system finally settles down from her furious flight. “Now what did you do?”
Norina gave nothing away, even if she could talk she would stubbornly keep quiet as she glared into the increasing darkness before her optics focused on something closer, the ever trailing cube that circled by her head. Sighing, Evelyn continued her way before it got too dark. The walk was long, and unfortunately the moonless night made it difficult to find camp. She tripped several times, even following Norina's glowing eyes and the occasional blast of portals. Out in the middle of the forest with only the starlight to guide her, it was difficult to make out the rocks and roots that stuck out. Eventually she made it to camp, clambering partway up a tree to get into her makeshift hammock that was a distance off the ground. Enough to avoid any ground critters that might be curious to peek into what is sleeping inside. Above her was a satchel with her most recent possessions and projects she was tinkering with. And further up was clear open skies to watch the stars as she went to bed, blocked out briefly by a chirring Norina who was making her way deeper into the forests where her usual nighttime activities took place beside Evelyn's new strange partner, Sovereign.
Sleep came slowly in the darkness and just as she was on the border of falling into a blissful dreamless state, there was a loud
CRACK and what sounded like a
SQUAWK! Evelyn did not even have time to bolt upright before a heavy weight knocked the breath right out of her.
Norina portaled nearby at the sound and gave a loud insulted hiss at the sudden bundle in her rune bearer's lap.
“What is going on here!?” The bundle was, in fact, her satchel. And it was
alive! It thrashed. It tried to jump out of her arms. It even hissed at her when her arms came around it to hold it in place. More squawking erupted as the possessed thing threw a fit. Yelling out curses back to the hissing, Evelyn had trouble with her hold as the bad had quite a lot of fight in it. Neither were backing down! And Norina was no help at all, observing from a safe perch and offering up clicks that must have been her equivalent of tips... or guessing loudly at who would win the fight. The human or the satchel.
In all the commotion the hammock tilted precariously to the side from the human's sudden shift in weight. Distracted, Evelyn realized her mistake too late as she was overturned and fell heavily to the ground below. The distance was enough to shake her up a bit and loosening her grip on the bag, which thankfully for its occupant she did not land on but was still clutching carefully. One final painful squeak later and the bag finally gave up.
As soon as she recovered her senses, Evelyn opened the bag to see what had give it its sudden demonic life. It came to a surprise that inside was a faint glow and a fluffy baby rune.
“You have got to be kidding me. How did
you put up that kind of fight?” Two bright lovely eyes blinked at her innocently in reply. “And now it's my fault that you're hurt, isn't it? Where did you come from?”
Carefully she reached into the satchel to help the baby out, making sure not to hurt what looked like a sprained wing that happened in all that fuss. Surprisingly that was the only thing obviously wrong, with the way she held it half-limp and the way it shook in pain. Sighing, the woman also tugged out a bundle of pieces, cogs, and chips tied by a string that was tangled in a talon, followed by a bundle of copper wire... It took a moment to untangle it from the baby dragon before she was allowed to examine it. At that time Norina had hovered down, looking completely unhappy with the result of the fight.
“Don't like babies, Nori? Come on now, be nice. It's not a fluffy potato! It's cute, and hurt, and I can barely take care of myself and thankfully don't have to take care of you and that beast in the cave... but it needs me.” Awww... How can one resist a fuzzy golden lump with such a faint soft shimmer to it. “What are you made of exactly?” After finding two mechanical runes, her fingers eagerly explored the glass of the baby's horns and its rune design. All the while the poor creature lay completely still, whether enjoying the attention or in too much pain and shock.
Both were wrong. As soon as Norina shifted places and came into view better, those little eyes locked onto something that floated nearby. Without a noise, she suddenly went from poor slightly glowy injured fluffy thing to blinding sun on a mission. Evelyn will never know if she threw the poor baby or if it leaped out of her hands (likely the latter, as Lyn had a soft spot for babies and how dare she actually think she'd throw it?) Either way, the shimmering rune's light made her shut her eyes tightly and throw up a hand to cover them, harsh and painful in the moonless night. It took a moment to adjust, and while she was blind for the few seconds she heard an unnatural whirring scream from Norina.
Blinking back the light spot in her eyes, the human finally was able to focus on the scene. The baby had somehow found the strength to leap straight up, latching fiercely onto Norina's little companion cube, and playing a tug of war with the mechanical portal rune to keep its new treasure.
“This is going to end badly...”
Evelyn's words were lost to the night with the angry noises her oldest companion was making. She jumped in to the fray to keep Norina from murdering the baby right then and there, as if it was a big fluffy golden potato.
Thank you to Azure who made me the drawing I've had stuck in my head-- it goes with the drabble above, since I had it stuck in my head how they all met and wanted a picture out of it!
Reap What You SowEven with a bandage around her wing, it did not stop the baby rune from exploring her new surroundings. She could not fly far and go back to where she came from, but she rather enjoyed her new company. The Shimmer Rune's human caretaker was kind to her, gave some awesome cuddles, helped her wing, and had plenty of shiny things that were just waiting to disappear. And that Norina... that little cube-- she
will get it some day!
“You need a name?” The human was saying, more like mumbling to herself as she cooked something over the camp's fire that looked unappetizing to the Shimmer Rune. “Something fun like... Zazzles.”
The baby rune's glow dimmed in dislike, and it thankfully was enough of a hint to show that Evelyn better try a new name.
Thankfully, the human was plenty distracted with her food and her musing, which made it the perfect opportunity to suddenly disappear. She won't be noticed for awhile yet...
Evelyn has had a long day and was actually surprised to still find the soft golden rune still in her campsite when she returned from her latest trek into the city. She actually spent what little money she had on some large panels of metal. There was a lot of complaining about her lack of finances as she turned deeper into the forest to drop the panels off to Sovereign, who had somehow been able to convey exactly what he needed to his partner. What he wanted with them, she will never know. Most things ended up gone by the time she went back, and she ends up ranting to the big metal beast about wasting her money. Which generally ends with a threatening growling coming from the big mechanical beast as he loomed over her.
Still, Evelyn was fascinated and he hadn't killed her yet, so it was a good setup.
“Taziva!” she said, inspiration suddenly striking in the most random of thought processes. “Nice and regal since you're shiny like gold and--” Realizing the shimmering baby was missing and she was talking to herself, Evelyn jumped to her feet. “How in the name of the Ancients did you manage to disappear with a bad wing!?”
She immediately went to go check out her personal items to make sure everything was still there. While she hoped the baby would stick around, she still didn't want her treasures to go missing as well. They really needed to establish a treaty or consolidate their own stolen goods.
“Where is she...?”
GRRRAAAAAAAR!She did not have to wonder long. A loud honking mechanical growl came from deeper in the forest and silence descended. Next thing she knew, a golden fuzzball came tearing through the trees and collided into her chest, knocking them both down to the ground.
“You messed with Sovereign, didn't you?” The baby rune did not look frightened, instead shimmering with excitement and looking mighty pleased with herself.
There was a tearing of trees nearby and Evelyn stared in the direction, knowing fully well that the Reaper Rune was having a massive temper tantrum and it was better to stay far from him at this point. Grabbing Taziva gently in one hand and her satchel in the other, she tore out of the forest in the opposite direction to put some distance between angry monsters. If she thought about it, it was probably best not to be dragging a little shiny rune with her that it was angry at...
“You pissed him off real good, Tazzy!” The baby was lucky she was so cute, glittering in amusement and actually releasing little quiet huffs that may have been laughter. Evelyn could not help but laugh as well, actually surprised to find the big machine losing its cool over such a little thing.
Evelyn wouldn't be laughing later when she realized she left behind what little food she had to burn at the fire.
Hundred Word SnapshotsGoldEvelyn was running low on money. She went to the city, leaving word around the seedier parts with a list of her skills: will steal, capture, hunt, and probably assassinate for gold. But it was a bad time for people with her skills; everyone was being too nice to each other and Sovereign wasn't participating in scaring them up lately. But when she got back to her camp site and found a soft golden glow curled up in her hammock, she felt happy to be returning to a comforting sight. Not all treasure is silver and gold.
WarningSovereign was out from his cave, actually resting nearby the camp site after flattening a few trees and ignoring Evelyn's shouting at him. Perfect time for Tazzy to go explore his cave! But the moment she moved, those red eyes were glowing down at her and she froze. “Finally have someone around you can't control,” Evelyn told the Reaper. Emboldened by that, Tazzy flew up to circle around the Reaper Rune. There was an angry static coming from him. “Hurt her and I'll strip you for parts,” Evelyn warned. Whether she can succeed is a different matter entirely.
CutleryEvelyn did not carry many possessions. Chairs, sofas, tables... none of that stuff, just a nice handful of silver utensils she successfully stole and a wooden bowl which can double for anything she may need. That was as homey as she got. She always kept it safely hidden. So when she found little Tazzy sleeping peacefully on the pile of stolen silverware... she was flabbergasted. Just how in the world does a baby dragon steal from her best hiding spot when she can barely pilfer an apple that fell off a food stand!?
Still a WIP. Everything was written at different times and during different levels of... sleepiness XD So I'm sorry if some parts seem like the tone changes (or the tense) and stops making sense. I had so many pictures and scenes in my head, I tried to get them down while I was awake and had time-- still sacrificed quite a bit of hours of sleep on it >.>; But I wanted to write it down, and finish something I started, even if I didn't stand a chance and I'm happy to watch it go to someone who definitely will love her as all the people here have shown
Also, I will stop editing when it ends today, likely will still be WIP as I also am experiencing internet outages... second time today for 30 min x.x I've tweaked personality and other areas and I'm satisfied that I have tried to the best of my abilities and time so far, so please judge as it is by the time it ends
