Ruby listens intently, bobbing up and down slowly in the jar. She appears to like her name, and she likes listening to you talk with her.

I smile and laugh a little when Ruby reacts to my voice. Her dancing light is enchanting, and I tilt my head as I continue to talk to her, discussing how I'm fond of her glow.

Ruby's glow suddenly increases, then softens out... is she... blushing?

"Oh Ruby," I giggle, "You're so silly." I tentatively reach out one hand and put a finger up to the glass, trying not to scare my new friend. "I know what you'll like." I breathe, reaching behind me and setting a book down in front of Ruby. The title is 'Ruby the Red Fairy' by Daisy Meadows. The book is my sister's but I thought it tied in all too well with my little Lyte. I began to read the first chapter out loud.

Ruby backs away shyly from your hand for a moment, but when you pull out the book and tell her the title, she seems delighted! Her little glow flashes brighter and fades rapidly in a series of exited flashes. However, as you begin to read, the flashing slows down to a rhythmic pulsing as she listens. The rhythm continues to slow as she listens to you read, enjoying the soothing sound of your voice as well as the actual story.

I flick a few glances at my happy Lyte as I read. Ruby's speckled light listens to me, hears me. I start to wonder what Ruby's future form will be, that is, if she changes. But I know she must get to be relaxed first, and I know that if I knew what she would become, then it wouldn't be a surprise! I continue reading some more, and show a few pictures to Ruby as I go along. Some are of the goblins being 'sneaky', some are of Kirsty and Rachel, and there are a few of Ruby the red fairy, whose red dress is littered with roses.
