Rune Dragon's Name:When I first saw this rune I immediately thought of Sten from Dragon Age. I would have called him that but I wanted to give this little serious faced rune more of a Gothic name, due the gothic castles and churches that gargoyles are typically perched on.
After searching for the perfect Gothic name for him, I chose
Grimald, or Grim for short. It seems to suit this Rune, given that he is a little grim faced but also elegant and strong like the name.
Rune's GenderGrimald is a male Rune Dragon. He seems like he would be a big tough male, to me anyways.
Will you breed him?Yes, I am curious as to what serious faced babies Grimald would have. He would be a very protective and caring daddy. :3
Why do you want him?Quite honestly, I wasn't going to apply for him. I really didn't connect with him the moment I saw him as I did with Fizzle and the Portal Rune. I saw him, thought he was pretty and awesome looking, then went to bed. However, I started to think about this rune as I tried to sleep and wondered how he act towards my little, hyper Fizzle. I thought about what adventures they would have and how protective the Gargoyle Rune would be. When I got on the next day, I noticed no one had really applied for this Rune and I kinda felt sorry for him. Sure he wasn't as pretty or entricate some of the other Runes, but he needed love too. So here I am, applying for him. The more I look at him, the more I love him. He is really special looking, and his serious face always seems to crack me up. He seems like the perfect companion that would keep little Fizzle and any other Rune I would get in check.
*Edit:
After drawing him several times and writing the story and developing his personality, I have completely fallen for this Rune. He just seems so sweet despite how he looks and I hope I protrayed his personality and my desire for him to join Fizzle and me.
What will you do with him?Of course I will draw him and write stories about him. I will draw pictures of him with other Runes, my Fizzle, and just by himself. I love drawing fanart of the Runes and everytime I draw them, I believe my art skills are getting better, so I will draw any chance I get.
Even if I do not win him, I will still draw fanart of him, just to show my love for the Runes. :3
Where will he go?My siggy and all over the Oekaki forums as I draw pictures of him. :3
In General:Grimald is stone through and through. He is tough, stoic, and a fierce and loyal guardian. Other then this, he is kind of a tough nut to crack. He barely reacts to anything or displays any kind of emotion. He just always seems to be sitting, watching, waiting for something, but what? His piercing yellow eyes seem to right through you, but reveal nothing of what he is thinking or feeling.
His lack of emotion and intense stares make him seem imposing, intimidating even, and many seem to fear this impassive Rune, however he doesn’t really display aggressive behavior. Sure he doesn’t show much emotion, but anger definitely isn’t one of them. He seems more of a pacifist, and doesn’t really fight unless he absolutely has to.
One of the few times he will fight, is if he feels his companion’s lives are in danger or his territory is threatened. When he is angry during these times, he can be downright frightening. His gaze grows even more intense and he can silence even the loudest and rowdiest of crowds with just a glance. He may seem serious faced now, but just wait until you make him angry.
Some people view Grimald’s lack of fighting as weakness. In fact, this is the complete opposite. He has to be strong to be a guardian, and during the long hours of the night, you can find him flying around, keeping his muscles loose and sharpening his claws for the future.
Grimald isn’t all stone walls and serious faces all the time though. Ever since meeting Fizzle, he has started to loosen up a little. You can even find him playing with the young Rune and even smiling! Well, not a full blown all teeth smile, but just a small grin of amusement. Grimald is honestly just a big softie. He loves nothing more then to just be near his companions. He may be silent and impassive, but he always seems to understand. He is always there to lend an ear for you to spill your problems and you never have to worry about him telling anyone.
Grimald is loyal and kind, maybe a little tough and hard to read, but a great friend and a wonderful guardian. You can’t help but feel safe and protected around him. He is stong and imposing, but a really softie when it comes to Fizzle and any of this other friends. He will listen to you and never judge or ridicule you.
Likes:Little is known as to what exactly Grimald likes, however he seems to adore both his companion and Fizzle. He is very protective of them both. He doesn't really seem to mind playing with Fizzle. You may even say he is amused and enjoys the little rune. He definately makes a good companion, given that he is the only one not burned by Fizzle's sparkler. Grimald also shows a slight fondness to Classical Music. Especially violins. He will sway along with the music, eyes closed as he listens.
Dislikes:Same as the likes, little is know to what he dislikes. What I do know is that he hates swimming. Well, he can't swim. His dense body makes him unable to float and he sorta just sinks to the bottom. He doesn't mind rain or shallow water though. He also doesn't like birds. I guess all statues hate birds for rather disgustingly obvious reasons. You will most definately find him inside to avoid his nemesis.
"Discovering the Guardian"I discovered Grimald almost by accident. I had been viewing Alabaster City, curious to what sights the grand city had to show. I was alone, having left Fizzle at home with a friend. I was afraid the hyper Rune would have darted into the crowds and would be lost forever. I could enjoy the city better, knowing my little ball of energy was safe at home, eating pop rock candy and getting into mischief. I never would have guessed it would have been my life in danger in this City.
I was in one of the large outdoor markets, looking at the goods of one of the many stands when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. It was a group of men. Shady and street hardened, their rat like eyes darted around the market greedily. One of them locked eyes with my own and I quickly looked back at the stall. I closed my eyes, hoping he would turn his eyes to someone else. When I looked up, they were gone. I sighed, in relief before I continued shopping.
It was dark before I finally started to head back to the inn. The streets were almost vacant, and they seemed strange in the darkness. I wasn’t too afraid, only nervous of being alone. It was then I became aware that I was being followed. I clutched my traveling cloak and quickened my pace, fighting the urge to look back.
As I rounded the corner, almost home free, I ran headfirst into the chest of a man. I stared wide eyed and a little dazed, the apology catching in my throat. It was the rat-eye man from the market. He sneered down at me as I backed away.
”Well, well. What do we have here?” He said, chuckling to himself.
”A little mouse scurrying home?” ”More like a small child lost in the city.” Said another man as he stepped up behind me. I looked around nervously, swallowing hard. I was surrounded. One of the men started to draw a knife from his coat, instinctively my hand went to my own dagger but I knew this would be a difficult and bloody fight. I swallowed hard again, ready to run, or fight, or something to happen when the shadow struck.
It slammed into the rat-eyed man with a dull thud. He fell down, out cold. The large shadow spread even large, purple hued wings. One of the men threw a dagger, but it only bounced off of the creatures hide with barely a scratch. It turned towards the man, emanating a deafening hiss. The shady men scrambled into the shadows rather quickly, dragging their unconscious friend with them.
I started backing away from monster, hoping I could get away without being noticed. However, my clumsiness cost me my silence as I stumbled and fell right on my behind. The dark creature turned slowly and it’s bright yellow eyes left me frozen. It’s wings spread to full length, and just when I thought he would make me his next victim, he flew off into the night, leaving me stunned and curious. I did not realize what exactly it was until the next day.
I was touring one of the gothic castles in the city. I was marveling at the beauty of it all, the stained glass, the tapestries, everything. As I was traversing one of the higher floors, I noticed them.
They were gargoyles. Great stone monsters, imposing and protective. Their mouths agape in a frozen roar, as if challenging those to attack their home. I was viewing them curiously, stunned by the fierce and powerful statues. However, I was left motionless when I set my eyes on one in particular. One of them looked exactly like the creature that had saved me. I was curious and in disbelief.
I had heard stories of gargoyles coming to life at night, but I never believed them. Those were children’s tales. However, this seemed like a scary coincidence. However, my doubt fell through when I noticed a small scratch in the stone on this particular gargoyle. It was in the same spot the thrown dagger had hit.
I decided to test the theory if these statues really did come to life. I came back just as it was growing dark. I hid in the shadows, watching and waiting. Just as I was about to give up, however, the magic started.
They really come to life! Some did anyways. They stretched their wings, growled and grumbled at each other before taking to the skies. The little gargoyle, my savior, hung back however. As I stepped closer to take a better look, he turned around to face me. It’s bright intelligent eyes held mine as it stepped forward. It was powerful, and intimidating but I did not back away this time. It stopped before me, it’s tail flicking slightly. It was only then I realized it was a Rune Dragon.
I visited this Rune every night while I was in the city. I told him of my day, and all that I did. I even told him of Fizzle. He would always stare at me with those piercing eyes, impassive to my stories but I could tell that he enjoyed them. The other gargoyles did not really seem to care for him, and I think he was rather lonely and enjoyed the company I gave him.
On my last night, I told him I was going home the next day. I had come to adore this Rune, who I named Grimald, and think he started to like me as well. When I told him I was going home, he just started out across the city, his face a mask of calm. I wondered what he was thinking, if he even understood. We sat in silence for a few moments before I got to my feet. I said my farewells, tears in my eyes, before starting to head back to the inn to back. I was shocked when Grimald started to follow. He looked up at me with the first emotion that night, pleading. I did the only thing I could do. I took him home.
Grimald seems to have settled nicely here at home. He perches on my window sill during the day, when he is stone, and he flies about the home and outside during the night. Fizzle adored him almost immediately. I was worried how he would react but Fizzle immediately started to play and bother the poor gargoyle rune. When I watch them, I sometimes wonder if Grimald regrets coming with me. He never shows irritation, and tolerates the hyper baby rune. Grimald seems to finally have found his place and home with me and little Fizzle.

More to come. :3 Click on the pictures to see them bigger.
Art:[This one was just a quick doodle and for fun. This is what I thought of the moment I saw this Rune.]
[This one is another little sketch. I thought it showed Grimald's protectiveness a little more. :3]
[Here is Grimald by himself, flying. :3]
