short story- His parents died soon after he was born, and his older brother tried to kill him out of grief and rage. Luckily, Slider survived and he ran away. He met other Kankos like himself, and they said they were a part of a human practice called "Adoption." He figured it would be safer with other Kankos and humans than out in the wild where his brother could find him. He grew up with the humans, and has grown used to them by now.
