Fade snuggled closer to her mother for warmth on the cold wintry day her life took a turn for the worst. Suddenly she heard crashing outside her den, she peeked out the narrow opening in the hollow log and saw a hunter's boots stomping through the undergrowth. The hunter opened a jar of jelly beans and laid a trail from the mouth of the den to his snare. Fade felt her mother slowly get up, hypnotized by the delicious smell of the jelly beans. Fade buried her nose in strong smelling leaves to mask the tantalizing smell of the colorful beans and tried to make her mother catch the smell of the leaves as well, but her mom was already hanging lifeless by the neck in the hunter's snare. Fade ran, tears streaming down her furry face, as far away as possible. She wasn't thinking about where she was going, and soon came upon a human's house with an elaborate garden she mistook for a forest and quickly fell asleep in a large fern. Early in the morning the human (me) awoke to tend her garden, when she saw the strange creature sleeping in the fern, she carefully picked it up and cradled the still sleeping creature in her arms. "You're so cute." She said. I think I'll call you Fade.
