Lionel yawned, as he woke from his nap, it was mid afternoon, and there was plenty day left to do something fun. Lionel streched scanned his large collection of shiny things. He smiled, he knew what he would do today! Find more shiny things. He strutted proudly out of his little den, his tail dragging behind him, swaying back and forth as he continued on. He sat back on his hind end, searching for a shimmer, or glow of anything to add to his collection. He didn't see anything. He padded on out of the woods where he had his den. He lived in a big park, just out side New York City, so there was plenty of shiny things to find. He stopped in ground of sa semi busy road, with taxis and cars racing torwards the city, he could smell the people and there food in the city as well, it was a mixed snell, not bad but not good either. He ran across when no cats were coming, making it to the sidewalk to the city, he had to lay low, he knew the humans didn't like rats, and he really didn't like them. He stayed in the shadows of the buildings, as he got closer in, the people started to clutter up the sidewalks, almost yelling and running. He made sure to watch himself, he didn't want to get stepped on or kicked. He saw many shiny things, but they were attached to the humans. Around their necks, on their ears, even on their fingers. He sighed, annoyed this would take awhile, he thought as he dodged a womens foot. He shone himself off and kept going, then down to the subway, the best place to find shiny stuff. He hopped down the stairs and ran to the first shabby thing he saw, just a dime, he had loads of those, he moved on. He went deeper in, spotting lots of coins, nothing he didn't have. Their was a tunnel to the right, it was an older part of the subway, no one went in there. It was blocked off, but there was a rat sized hole in the wood. Lionel walked over to it, sniffing it, seemed safe he thought, climbing into the dark tunnel. He could still see well, and heard other rats around, but they all ran as soon as he got in, they were smaller then he, and usually were scared of any new rats. He saw in the distance, a small shiny light. He sqeaked with joy as he galloped to it, following the light. It seemed to be moving farther away... Weird. He ran full speed at the light, until he stumbled over a tiny rat, he flipped over, looking for the light it was gone. The rat was very young, and scraggly looking, but he mooved he'd also found the source of the light, a diamond ring! With a Magnificat diamond, bigger than his paws! He knew he could help this rat, and then they'd gladly give Jim the ring. "Are you ok, do you need help?" he squeaked to the rat, who stare horrified at him. "...yes, sir... I'm fine... I just can't find my mum," the rat said in a shakey quick voice. "Want `me to help? What's she look like?" Lionel asked the little rat, smiling with pride and confidence. The rat nodded, "Well, she's thin, and a fawn color with white sports on her back, with a pink nose and tail. Her name is Dawn," he said walked forwards, looking back at Lionel. Lionel walked next to him, searching around, the rats in hiding began to come out, seeing the big fluffy ray was no threat to them. He scanned the tunnel, seeing 2 fawn colored rats and pointing then out, the little rat shook his head. They turned into a smaller tunnel, with even more rats, "Maybe she's home now..." the little rat said quietly to himself. They kept on going, reaching the end, but ther was a peice of clothe over a hole, too small for Lion. The little rat glanced at Lionel and walked in squeaking and sniffing. He came out with in a second, "Nope, my sister says she ain't here," the little rat turned and ran the other way, Lionel caught up to him. "We gotta go outside, to look for her, ok?" he said to Lionel. Lionel nodded, they came out of the whole, sneaked past the people and contiued on, passing the stairs, "I though we had to go outside?" Lionel asked confused. The little rat glanced at him, "We are outside, we can't go up, we're not aloud." Lionel shrugged, and followed him. They both stood up at the sane tine, heating a loud, frighten squeal near by, they lunged forward, to the sound. They stopped as they saw a large man, trying to catch a small, fawn colored rat, the little ray squeaked in fear, "That's my mum! He's try to get my mum! Whenever those humans catch one of us, we never see them again!" he yelled franticly. He looked to Lionel, Lionel ran full speed at the man, launching on to his leg, and biting him as hard as he could. The man yelp in pain as he dropped the cage, and shaking his leg. The fawn rat just stared up at Lionel, to scared to move. Lionel jumped onto the mans shoulder, running around his ne k and o to his head, he looked at her and squeaked, signaling for her to run. She did, she ran right over to the young rat, pulling him to go with her. He stayed there, Abd shook his head, he couldn't leave Lionel, he saved had his mother! Lionel bit the mans ear, and jumped off of him, landing on the trash can lid, he flew to the floor where he took off for the hole, both the other rats followed him, as the man ran after them. They all made it safely in the hole, but the man was right on the other side, sticking his hand in it and trying to grab one, he got the young rat, but couldn't pull him out. The mom laughed at the land, also getting caught in his hands. The man let out a wicked chuckled as he tried to pull them out. Befoe he could, Lionel latched onto his middle finger with his front teeth, just hard enough to let them go. They ran free, straight for the smaller tunnel, the other rats hidden away already. Lionel ran after them making to the small hole covered in clothe. He took a breath and sat down heavily. The little rat smiled, running in the whole, and out, with the ring. He put it over Lionels head. "You deserve this, you saved us!" said the small rat, his mother nodding in agreement. He smiled too, "Thanks," he said patting the ray on his head and grinning at his mother. The other hidden rats watched carefully, squeaking small things like, "Wow... What a brave rat..." and what not, softly. The mother bowed to him, "You are always welcome here, you saved me and my son," the mother said, as the hidden rats reviled themselves. They all padded up to him, nodding and glancing with agreement. Lionel smiled, he had never felt more like a hero until now, he puffed out his chest and strutted back to the hole, saying goodbye to the 2 rats and Che king if it was safe, held the ring tightly as he squeezed through the hoke, back into the subway, he jumped up the stairs, still stirring and chest puffed, he was boasting to himself, like usual, he got what he wanted. This was the biggest shiny thing he had yet! He'd wear it everywhere. He sighed, what an interesting day he had had in the city. -the end :3-
