Personality: Tangelo has always observed the expert horse tamers from a distance and his biggest (and most double-edged) trait that causes him to do this is his curiosity. He doesn't think too much of them - in fact, he's rather egotistical and feels that they are wasting their time trying to tame him - but he can't help wondering about what the other Three River horses experience while in their care. He's well aware that living in the last refuges of the world comes with its trials and terrors, chief among them loss of his herd-mates to poachers for their lovely, thick coats. This is partially the cause of his dislike of the researchers, even though he knows they mean no harm. He prefers to move away from them when being observed; privacy, especially when he's alone with a mare, is his favorite thing. It can make him hard to get to know, but if you can make it past the ego and stand-offish shell, Tangelo is a perfectly nice individual. The silliest thing he does (and it has been caught by the researchers, earning him his nickname of "Flycatcher") is chasing butterflies from the clover patches he likes to feed on.
History: Tangelo comes from a herd known for staying near one of the three major rivers in the area. It has always been a very stable herd, with few upsets and changes in lead stallion, and it was only recently that Tangelo was booted (rather unceremoniously) to become a lone bachelor stallion. He was always a favorite of the mares and he won't admit to missing his mother (though he does more than he'd like to admit). His last encounter with humans was barely avoiding a leg snare set by poachers. He dislikes the taste of grain now for this reason and it was sheer luck that kept him from being skinned.
