Victor races through the maze, his heart pounding. The walls are closing in, and he doesn't know which way to go. Every way he turns, there's another dead end. Suddenly, blackness.
✧✧✧
Vic has nightmares like this a lot. He knows it's because of his largest fear- making the wrong decision. He dreads that he'll make a bad choice and end up lost, homeless, or worse. To cope with his decidophobia, Victor writes action stories. This might seem strange, but he finds it helpful. He instills his fear into his stories, using it to write the conflicts of the characters and how they overcome them. He realizes that you can't overcome your problems if you do nothing because you fear it will create more. That is a problem in itself. To overcome his fear of making decisions, Victor must make them, despite himself. It is the only way.

biggest fear; raven has pediophobia, fear of dolls. nobody knows why except for her, because telling why spooks her too much. when raven was exceptionally small, she had her second birthday party, and most of her family was invited. raven had picked out her favorite family members, her grandmother & grandfather, her aunt & uncle, and her older cousins. they all came on time except her grandparents, they couldn't make it for some reason. they had fun catching up and doing party games like pin the tail on the donkey.
after they ate cake, it was time to open presents! she got a total of 3 presents, one more than how old she was turning, raven noticed. first she opened her aunt & uncles gift. a royal blue peanut elephant! this was her favorite, and she loved snuggling with this beanie baby because it had the softest fur out of her whole 7 piece collection. next she opened her cousin's present, which was a small box filled with pez.
raven made sure to snack on these while she opened her third present, the one her grandparents dropped off the day before. this was the biggest present, the best for last. it was wrapped in shiny paper with green flowers decorating it. excitedly, raven ripped open the box. it was another box labeled, 'serena starlight'. inside of that box was a doll nearly as big as raven.
it was sewn from cloth and appeared to be a young woman. it had green eyes, a pale white complexion, and straight brown hair, cut short. its stitched-on face had a creepy, neutral expression. it was wearing a flat dress in colors that reminded raven of the night sky, and she was horrified. her family didn't understand why she was horrified, but later that night, she could hear a quiet whispering, making out the words 'come play with me, raven.'

ask anyone about wren, and you'll always get the same answers.
dependable. supportive. loyal.
her calm is almost contagious. a soft smile of reassurance here, a small note of
encouragement there. and yet, despite her quiet confidence, behind those gentle
eyes lays an ever-present uneasiness.
ask anyone if she's afraid of anything, and they'll say no. to most, she's like an anchor
in a stormy sea, the branch to cling to in the wind. she's someone who's always there,
someone who will do anything for you without a second thought. her unspoken but
ever-present bravery is a source of inspiration. ask wren, however, and she'll tell a
different tale.
most have something they want to be in life; a dream to put blood, sweat, and tears
into. and yet, somewhat contradictory to what most would think, wren does not. she's
never felt drawn to anything, never felt an interest in any of the hobbies or subjects
she's dabbled in. despite being a pillar for many, she's another cloud in the never-ending sky.
while it may seem like others hold onto her, she's the one who clings tighter.
ask wren if she's content being a stepping stone to others, and she'll say she's nothing but
happy to help; and it'll be nothing but the truth. for far beneath the mask of tranquility
and stability, wren is afraid of living a life without purpose.with nothing to strive for and
no one to depend on, she thrusts herself into a life of service. to her, there's nothing
more terrifying than that detached feeling of futility.
"you've lived a life making others feel loved. when will you learn to love yourself?"

Holidays are supposed to be fun, exciting; Halloween especially, with the spooky undertone. It’s a night of festivities and friends (and most importantly, candy). For every kid, Halloween is amazing- and Maggie would agree, if skeletons weren’t instrumental in decoration.
It’s not really the skeletons themselves that scare her, it’s there reason for being there. Skeletons are symbolic for death; ending, decay. And the feelings Maggie gets when she stares into the blank, empty eye sockets of the skulls are enough to steer her away from Halloween, museums, and, unfortunately for her grades, health class.

Victoria

Fear: a feeling induced by perceived danger or threat.
Victoria has never been, what they call, a coward. She's always stood up for people, has always volunteered to go first in frightening activities (such as bungee jumping and skydiving) and been the one to calm everyone down in situations like a power outage. So what exactly is she afraid of?
Victoria doesn't know.
She had never really given it a thought until someone outright asked her what she's afraid of. She spent a good minute pondering before stating that she's unsure. The one who asked her scoffed and walked away. They thought Victoria was trying to seem brave and macho, when she genuinely didn't know. It was embarrassing. So that same day, she lay in bed and made a mental checklist in her head.
Snakes? Nope, she owned one.
The dark? Couldn't be, she purposefully shuts all the lights off in her house at night.
Guns? No, her father was a hunter and often took Victoria with him.
Ghosts? The oujia board stored in her closet can answer that one.
The list went on and on, each one getting a big, fat NO next to it. Victoria gave up after a while, frustrated and tired. She turned off all the lights in her house and said goodnight to her snake. It was only as she was just falling asleep the thought came to her.
Fear
That was it! Victoria's father was always a macho man and encouraged Victoria to never be afraid, because it's a sign of weakness. That thought had been implemented and driven into her brain so many times as a young child that it's a habit now. She's afraid of being afraid. Of course, she doesn't believe someone is a coward for being afraid of something, she's afraid of being a coward herself.
Yeah, that logic didn't make much sense to Victoria either.

kalon name; lilia
kalon gender; female
biggest fear;
oh what it is to be truly afraid
of the light of the moon in the evening shade
lilia tucked her hands into her cloak, pulling it tightly over her shoulders as she pushed onward through the crowd.
oh what it is to hide under your sheets
as the darkest demons run prowling the streets
a cold wind picked up behind her, catching her fraying hem and whipping it around her legs. snowflakes danced up from the hardened piles lining the walkways, pounded down beneath her to patches of slick ice.
oh what it is when the vampire's near
when your heart starts to pound to the song of fear
her pace quickened as she started off the unbeaten path leading up to her homestead, wind whistling and howling through the leafless trees.
the youthful song rang fresh in her head, fresh and frightening as the first time she'd heard it. her best friends would sing it when she was a little girl, but she was always so afraid. too afraid to even sing along, so afraid that even a young boy in her primary classes jumped out at her one day and made her cry. but was it wrong to fear a threat she knew was real?
the door slammed shut behind her and she let her back fall against it, breathing hard as her hood slid down over her head, exposing her rosy cheeks to the warmth of a roaring hearth. her mother turned from her work at the table, a deep frown creasing her face.
"that door won't hold up if you treat it so harshly, lilia," she scolded her, glancing up at the window where a pale moon was still entirely hidden beneath a thick coat of clouds. the sun had yet to drop fully below the horizon, but the white of winter kept the place alight with a strange glowing brightness almost unnatural. "you're early, again."
lilia swallowed her shame, quickly fastening the lock on the door as her father came in through the house's other doorway, out back. his hands glowed bright red, of course he hadn't worn gloves again, even going out in this cold.
"lilia," he grunted. "that was you?"
"yes," she answered dismissively, her eyes turning downward. the scowl on her father's face was enough.
"you can't keep behaving this way. you're old enough to let it go."
without another word, she turned and fled to her bedroom, tightly locking the door behind her and holding her breath. no one followed. a hollowness filled her, and she let out a silent sob.
no one would deny that the vampires were real. everyone knew they were. but fear had kept her locked in, night after night - always home before the sun had fully set. even if the nearest fortress was nearly a hundred miles away... every prying eye come nightfall chilled her to the core.
they had no reason to come here, to the small lumber village. even from a business perspective, most vampiric manors were built of stone and marble, not the timber her town produced.
but what if one day, they did come? she felt her blood chill in the cold of the sealed away room, the faint glow of the firelight dashing streaks only just under the door. inside, it was cold, and dark, and lonesome. but she couldn't step out there, not again. not to be ridiculed by them, or to be told that she was acting like a child. she couldn't bear it.
oh what it is to be truly afraid
oh what it is to be truly afraid
outside the wind whistled, shivering the glass pane in its frame. lilia tucked herself deep under her blankets, trying to breath between the sobs filling her throat.
when your heart starts to pound to the song of fear

Willow considers herself to be fearless. She doesn't let it dictate her life in any way and remains determined for any task at hand. She has to, being a natural born leader responsible for guiding the future. There must be risks taken, challenges overcome, crucial decisions made... Though she lives with that mentality, it isn't necessarily the truth. The truth is ironic in a sense. Willow has the fear that one day she will gain a fear. A sort of paradox, isn't it?
Willow used to let fear run her life before she was an adult. There was an incident when she was a small kit that led to the death of her mother and caused her to be afraid. Her mother was killed as a result of showing her beliefs in a passionate way as she had gained a following from various speeches and programs she was apart of. Willow became afraid of leaving her home, interacting with others, speaking her mind... This constant state of fear essentially ruined her childhood as she was scared she would end up like her mother. Willow was just as passionate about some topics just as her mother was. She deeply regrets this looking back. She wishes she would have spoken up.
Willow slowly recovered and emerged as her own self again once she had decided to go to a university to further her education as well as have a change in her environment. The transition was very hard for her, having to fight this fear that had haunted her for the majority of her life before of even daring to leave her home. But she persisted and pushed it aside to follow her passions. It's something her mother would have wanted. Through her studies, she learned that she could make a change and express her passions. Changes that could affect other kalon's lives for the better. Was she going to let this fear of opening up hinder her ability to do good? She pondered this question for the longest time and came to the conclusion that she wouldn't anymore. She didn't want to live her life in fear anymore. It was tiring and was an awful way to live... She had missed out on so many opportunities in her younger years and she had enough. Once this decision was made she bloomed like a flower, attending rallies and other places to deliver speeches and have an influence. She even created her own programs and organizations to help things such as hunger, mental health and the environment.
Willow now lives her life contently knowing that she can help other kalons freely without this previous fear hanging over her head. However, she is still left with the ironic fear of fear itself. What if something else creeps up on her to hinder her ability to do things? She's not sure, but for now she will keep living her life the best she can.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
( biggest fear; ) every time kanon closed her eyes, she could still hear the harrowing wails of those who had their lives stripped away and hopes broken down into smithereens. she could recall the familiar sight of flashing blades slicing through the masses of bodies with ease, as well as the sanguine-coloured liquid that dripped from the tips of the blades. as horrific as those sights and sounds were, the straw that ultimately broke kanon's back was the crackling of flames and the hungered roar as the fire fought to devour everything in its path.
the flames ate everything. fueled by the things it could eat, the embers climbed high into the night sky and illuminated it, but not in a comforting way that kanon would've expected from light. smoke billowed into the air, and the village that she had resided in had been burnt to the ground. red and orange filled her vision, a stark contrast against the gentle greens that had been wilted into ugly browns and charred blacks.
tears flowed freely down her face, and although kanon opened her mouth to scream, no words came out. instead, she choked, gasping to remove the smoke from her lungs and replace it with the oxygen that she so desperately needed. the black smoke hung as a dark haze around her head, and when she struggled to her feet, it attached itself to her body. the tips of her fur were singed, and kanon had to squeeze her watering eyes shut. the scene around her, coupled with the smoke, hurt her.
"there are bodies everywhere the flames are growing even stronger than before no one can extinguish it at this point it's going to burn the whole world down i'm going to die this is the end i'm going to die here --"
only one thought remained on her mind. kanon had to escape from the inferno, or else her life would given up to replenish the energy of the flames. however, it wasn't as though she could stand up and run away from the flames, as the fire had encircled her. there was an area where the embers were lower, and without giving it more thought, she rushed through the opening.
her first immediate thought was how hot the fire was. there was a burning sensation blooming from her legs and the sides of her body, and kanon dropped down to the ground and rolled. she was still choking, gasping, crying, as she struggled to escape from the blaze while putting out the fiery blossoms that had attached themselves to her. she rubbed dirt all over herself and flinched whenever her paws ghosted over her burns, but she could still move. kanon could still hobble away and attempt to seek shelter within the forest, with some difficulty. if she kept a straight head, there was a possibility that she could still live.
kanon found it difficult to concentrate on anything with the thick, wispy smoke curling around her and threatening to suffocate her. she tripped, and before she hit the ground, the sky rumbled violently. droplets of water hit her face. that was when kanon decided to pass out, her eyes rolling to the back of her head in exhaustion and pain.
when kanon woke up again, the first thing she noticed was that she was no longer on the ground. she wasn't in the forest anymore. someone had decided to bring the green furred kalon to their home and tuck her into a bed, and although a jolt of pain swept up her limbs as she tried to move them, her injuries had obviously been cared for. she perked up slightly at the thought of a kind samaritan, a warm, bubbly sort of feeling blooming from her chest and spreading out to the ends of her body. she lifted her head towards the direction of the window to welcome the warmth of the sunlight, something that kanon hadn't experienced in some time.
and that was when she saw red and orange adorn the leaves that shifted gently in the breeze. she stiffened and blinked once, twice, but the colours did not go away. her breath caught at the back of her throat as she made a strained sound, and she flinched. when did autumn arrive? just how long had she been asleep?
why did the colours of the leaves remind her so much of that one day? fire had burned and killed the leaves. although the leaves aren't burning now, they are still dying. the leaves are beautiful, even in their last moments.
fire had robbed too much from kanon. although fire provides warmth and light to many, it is the source of kanon's terror and many nightmare-fueled nights. it is a gift-turned-curse, and kanon can't escape from the uses of fire.
