why do they enjoy nature so much?;
Mendi enjoys nature because it allows him to be free. Free from the pressure of becoming a fisherman for his family. That he should uphold a tradition that was carried out by 10 generations. He doesn't want to do that, doesn't want to live his life stuck in a small village where everyone is the same and nothing changes. The village elder says he's one of Udhëtar, a traveler. That the dreams of flying over all sorts of changing landscapes indicates he really is an Udhëtar. But Udhëtar rarely come back when they leave the village, and the last one who left was 37 winters ago. When he is one with the mountain over looking his home, contentedly lost in it's massive forest, towering trees and numerous bird calls, he feels free. The forest and it's inhabitants don't care about traditions, or that he grows his hair out long instead of keeping it short. And, there is another reason why he loves nature, and more specifically, the mountain.

Mendi sighed in content in the small clearing, keeping himself busy with a flower chain, while he leaned against a fallen log. A beetle had come up to rest beside him, munching on a leaf. He had admired it for a while, all of it's pretty colors and bright dots, before going back to his flower chain. He held up the finished flower chain and smiled, before jerking back as a face peered into his. "Hello! Are you going to keep that flower chain? I really like it, you picked out some good colors! And thanks for not squishing me earlier, that wouldn't have been fun!" It's a... something? It's most certainly not a Kalon. It's a dog of some sort, sharing the same markings and colors as the beetle, with wings, antenna, and multiple legs. And it's smiling a very, very bubbly smile, and expecting him to answer back.
"Uhmm, if you want it you can keep it?" They smile even brighter somehow, "thanks!" And then it's out of his hands and on their head, while they twirl around in the clearing. "I feel like a real prince now! This is so much fun!" They, no, he was having trouble keeping it on his head with all the twirling, but somehow it stayed on. The stranger turns back to him, still smiling eerily bright, "do you think you could make me another?" "Um, yes?" "Great! I'll help you pick some more flowers!" And then the stranger is out of the clearing, off to pick more flowers. Mendi pinches himself, and prays it's a kind spirit and not an evil one that will betray him if he doesn't make the flower chain pretty enough. Or that he isn't going crazy like everyone says, and will soon die due to craziness. After a minute of pinching himself repeatedly, the stranger comes back with his arms full of flowers of different kinds, and plops them down unceremoniously in Mendi's lap, before plopping down next to Mendi. "Here! I'll help you make it!"
While Mendi contemplates if he really is insane, they both make flower chains quietly. It's... peaceful? It's an extremely strange experience, but the stranger is happy. After an hour and three new chains later, he invites him to come back again for more flower chain making. And so he can show off the flower chains he will make. He wrangles a name out of the stranger while they walk towards the edge of the woods together. "Oh, my name? I'm Brumbull!" And now he has a forest spirit for a friend.
