Name:
Callidora
A Greek name meaning "gift of beauty," from kallos "beauty" and doron "gift." A nickname for this is Calli or Dora.
Age (at most 200):
Eighty-Two
Personality:
Shy: Callidora perfers not to talk, and to stay rather witheld. It is not that she is necesarily antisocial. More that she does not like being particularly noticed and would rather stay hidden to read and observe and whatnot. She, though, will certainly step out for one's justice and speak her mind, which has incredible perspetive annd imagination and often draws much attention and curiosity.
Positive: Hell yes, the glass is half-full! Calli always seems to manage to find the bright side of things, no matter how dark the situation. It is just a habit of her's, rather annoying at times, to not let anything get her down. Although she has definately had her share of depression, she has a heart of gold and a beauty, on both the out and inside, that is seems almost devine. No one can quite percieve why she can always lift their spirits, but she sure can.
Ill-Tempered: She may be sweet as flowers and kind as a bunny, but Calli can snap in an instant. All it takes is one word out of place and she;ll blow up on you. Half of this is sensitivity, perspective as mentioned earlier, and the other half is merely indignance. She can't hold a grudge, but Callidora sure knows how to make people feel guilty or upset when she is telling them off. Even so, her voice barely esapes the 'inside-voice' range. Quite peculiar.
Afraid: Despite her temper, Callidora flinches quite often and is easily scared. She is endlessly nervous and it often takes the embrace of a loved-one to calm her nerves and wild thoughts. She's often called a coward or a pansy, though most other gryphons who have the gall to insult her have never experienced what she has. Although, as seen, she is not frightened when she has to stand up for another, and battle is nothing. When asked about battle she will rely easily and calmly: "Ah, it won't be terrib;e. Sure- A few scratched, maybe some bangs and bumps. But I have faith that my fellows and I will send those wimpy sabers running home to their mothers." It can be a bit amusing when she is scared, though. She jumps and squeals at the softest touch, hit or kicks those who get too close.
Creative: Callidora's armor is possibly the most absnormal but unique armor out of the gryphons' average selections. She decided to think different, and thus ended up with splendidi armor that lack cliche-ness. She can create hings and make and draw things amazingly, with accuracy and prestigue. This gryphon seems to have her brain wired in a different way, unlike most who always want their things safe, unnoticable, and durable.
Lonely: Like most growing child always doees at one point in their liofe, Callidora is lonely. She feels sort of alone in the world, though she can't put a finger (talon?) on it. It is probably because, although she does not remember it, she lost most of ehr family and it impacted her greatly, to where deresssion was merely a state of mind.
Childish: It's pretty obvious by now that Callidora has some serious mood-swings. Positive, lonley. Creative, afraid. She's a rather comlex girl. And that brings us up to our next topic: She is rather childish, lacking the maturity to keep calm and not show emotion.
Attacks:
Forest of Thorns
Callidora often avoids using this attack, as it is rather draining and takes much concentration, as well as it can induce comas if enough energy is sapped. When facing an opponent, she can swiftly open her wings in a fluid motion and leap into the air, doing some sort of aerial trick where she spins thrice mid-air, as it mimicking the human dancer's pirouette. When she lands, a cage of sorts encloses the foe, where there is little space for the enemy to move without puncturing themselves on razor-like thorns.
Aloe Kiss
This was not named by Callidora herself, but by others who had felt her healing touch. When one is wounded, she may gently touch the beginning of the wound with her beak, and run it along the length of the wound. Those whom she had healed named it that, for it looked as if she was kissing the wound, and the feeling that was left was cool and soothing- tingly almost- that gave one the impression of an aloe plant's gel smeared upon the raw skin. This takes no energy from Callidora and she does not hesitate to use it at all.
Garden in the Sky
When flying, Callidora has the ability to spread her wings to their full extent, obviously. WHen she does this, she can create an island of sorts, in the sky, where a small mass of lush land hangs as if held by strings. Then, flowers grow- A "garden in the sky." From this "garden" she watches her enemies, silent. The gryphons often use her as a spy due to this power, for she can merely sit on her "garden" above the sabers' training area or camp and watch them.
Whirlwind
No, no, Calli does not possess the power of wind, nor can she create an actual whirlwind. She actually rid all of the trees near of their leaves and turn that into an ever-turning spin, often engulfing her enemy. It is more confusing than harming, which then allows Callidora to strike with a more harmful weapon of her's.
Special Ability:
Lotus Cry
When in great destress, Calli can let out a soothing, beautiful croon. It sounds like a bird's song, almost, and sends the Earth into disorder almost, as the trees and plants and ground easily bend to her will. She can control them verbally or telepathetically. This makes all of her attacks noticeably simpler.
Story:
** Please note, this story includes specific moments that are memorable in Callidora's life. **
" The saber was massive. His fangs were the length of Father's wingspan, his paws were as big as my head. " Calidora's twin brother grinned mischeviously as he taunted his sister, telling her (in a far more frightening version) of one of the sabers that their parents had battled. In this battle, actually, was when they declared their love for one another. In this battle, they became mates and together killed the saber, who was mighty indeed. Merely not as horrific as Adonis dipicted him to be. Calli squealed, giggling. She flapped her small wings, green-ish feathers bursting into the air and drifting lazily around.
" Go one, Don! Go on! " The gryphoness urged. Her brother sighed as if she was wasting his time, but continued. " Well, the saber had the element of fire. This was one thing that both Mother and Father hated with such a passion that the wind was so violent, the saber was forced to dig his claws into the ground, and actual ghosts- what seemed to haunt the saber's past, or only as far as Mother had ventured- danced around him.
" The saber snarled, vicious, and lunged at Mother. Father shot such a blast of air that the saber's head armor was blown clear off, elft to drift mercilessly in the cast unknown. Mother forced the ghosts back into the soul of the saber, where he saw each one's death. " Adonis was interrupted by his Mother, who listened nearby in amusement, awaiting the return of their father from patrolling. " Having phsycic abilities had its... Perks. " She laughed melodiously, touching each of her children with the tips of her wings.
Adonis gave his mother an incrediulous look and then shook his head, rolling his eyes. Calli stiffled a laugh, shrinking down from her already small frame at her mother's suspicious glare. Don continued.
" The saber, driven mad from watching one of his closest family members- his sister- die, looked around wildly. He then created a spinning frenzy of burning fire. The saber rid himself of any resistence to becoming alite and stepped into the flames. Where he died, screaming as he watched he himself die from the outside. "
Callidora gasped, looking at her mother with fury. She'd heard bits and pieces of the story, but never something so... Cruel.
" Mother! " She screamed, her voice breaking as tears pushed at her warm brown eyes. " The poor saber- He had already seen his family die, and you made him watch himself die?! That was terrible! You're terrible! " The young femme gryphon launched into a rant, not paying any mind to her mother, who was now on the verge of tears herself. Calli trudged to the entrance of the small cave in which the family rested, still seething, when a terrible sight brought her words to a halt.
Down below, just beneath their cave, atotal of six sabers stalked in a formation, watching above them, prepared for anything that may happen.
Her mother, surprised and a bit curious, appraoched her daughter cautiously. She let out a quiet gasp, which she quickly stopped, when her eyes fell on the young armored felines.
The mother, engraged and scared out of her wit, turned to her children and crouched next to them.
" Children, " she began, and Calli knew there was no way this would end in any way possible that was good. " I am going to banish them from our grounds. I will use that same gruesome attack that Adonis mentioned, and it is indeed terrible to witniss. Please avert your eyes. If- when- I return, I will be very tired and most likely fall into a heavy, deep sleep. When your father returns, tell him what happened and not to worry- he's seen this before, trust me.
" But until he returns, and until the sabers are... gone... you must not, ever, look down at the sabers. "
The two nodded in unison, scared and unsure.
They watched with massive eyes as their mother took a running leap and lunged downward, but they did not follow or look after her once she was out of their vision. The sound of snarls and roars from the sabers sent chills down Callidora's back, and she and her twin huddled close, side by side, terrified now. A chokin noise carried up to their hiding spot and a tear trickled down Calli's cheek, flattenikng the fathers and making a small line of darker feather.
The loud screen of her mother made Calli- and Adonis, too- even more scared, terror racking through her. Hope bloomed in her chest when she saw her father's familiar form, flanked by two of his best friends. Both were massive gryphons, with deadly attacks that Calli had witnissed herself while watching them practice battle.
They all let out yells or screeches of horror and quickly dove into battle, eliminating the remnant of the sabers, from the sounds of it. Finally, the curioisty was too much for the young gryphon. She stood and, despite Adonis's words, stepped to the edge and looked boldly down. Immediately, she assionatly regretted those actions.
All of the sabers lay, dead, or in the process of killing themselves. But it was so much more visious than her twin had described it. they were using claws and fangs to torture themselves, and even one another. The male gryphons flew about, not looking often, to make sure they did not break free of the curse that had been bewitched upon them by Callidora's own mother- by the stunning yet horrific Raksha. It was no wonder her name meant, 'The demon.'
Callidora backed away, gasping.
A sudden thud, followed by silence, forced her eyes open again.
Her father, with the help of his fellows, carried her mother upward. The blood of herself as well as the sabers splatted her, and the same with the other gryphons, rather it was their blood rather than Raksha's.
She was unconcious, her chest barely rose. Calli'smother wheezed heavily. She slithered to the ground when she was lowered. Her tail and ears twitched occasionally, but nothing more. Calli gasped again, this time a wave of tears flooding her face. She looked at her father. He looked solemn. She looked at her 'uncles'- Helios and Ajax. They had a similar expression plastered upon their faces.
None of the gryphons left that night, too afraid to look at the bodies.
It was a good thing, too, for Callidora and Adonis would certainly need some comfort come morn. Theattack on so manty had worn Raskah thin, and it was that fateful night that Calli's world was turned upside down.
Because that night, Raksha died.
____
I didn't even get to say goodbye. The last thing i said was an insult.
Oh, what monster have I become?
Calli thought this somberly as she flew high above the treetops, looking down at the ground and seeing every flower as a memorial for her dead mother. Every flower as just another weapon to torture her, reminding her of how cruel she;d been to Raksha before she'd died. She did not make any act to register the arrival of her brother. He flew silently next to her, his dark blue wings beating strongly and soundlessly. He'd turned out to be a handsome water-bender, even though he was only about seventeen years, a heartbreaker like his dad.
" Calli, " He began sympathetically. " What, Don, what? " She demanded roughly, looking up at him angrily. he cringed, realizing she;d been mourning again. " Calli, it's okay. Mom doesn't blame you, and she loves you still. " he reassured. Callidora's head whipped up and pain registered on her pretty face. " How do you know that, Adonis? Did she tell you before you died? "
These words were merely to be cruel to her brother, nothing more nor less.
He paused. " Yes. "
Callidora stopped. " ... Yes? Mom told you that she didn't blame me? When? " Adonis sighed and Calli felt the pain of reliving the experience rolling off of him. " At twilight when you were all asleep, I stayed awak next to mother. She woke, briefly, and told me that she loved us both massively and to always keep her in our hearts. She knew she was dieing. And then, her eyes strayed from me and over to you. She said, ' Tell my beautiful daughter, son, that I died loving her and always will, and that I did not take the harsh words personally, I do not blame her nor anyone else but me for my death. ' With that, she smiled, inhaled her last breath, and closed her eyes. " Adnois huffed. " And you wondered why I was such a wreck come morn! "
Callidora gaped at her brother. Anger and pain and a thousand other emotions all pushed their way into her brain, and she only registered one; Massive, astonish relief. " Oh, Don! " She shireked. " Why did you not tell me? Why did you allow me to bully myself so? " Adnois shrugged. " It was... Well... It was quite a lot for even me to handle. I wanted to wait until you were ready, " he suggested. Callidora smiled and sighed, and then threw herself at her brother, wrapping her talons around his and butting her head against his.
Art of it:
I suck at art, but hopefully I can make a little somethin'. Oh, goodness, wish me luck!
