They found her in a forest, wrapped in pearly silk. She was just a baby, with silvery skin and hair as dark as the night itself. There were no footprints in the snow. It was as if the wind itself had carried her. They had always wanted a child, so they took her into their cabin and named her Selene.

She grew into a quiet girl, spending most of her time alone. She had the prettiest voice, though she only sang when she thought no one was watching. She was loved her parents very much, but she felt very different from them, which saddened her deeply.

Her parents thought she was wonderful, and tried to make her as happy as they could. However, as she grew, they began noticing strange behavior. She would disappear on what seemed to be random nights, coming back early the next morning. It was okay, they reasoned. She was old enough to protect herself out in the forest. And yet, they couldn't help but be worried.

A year passed by, and they started to realize that there was a pattern. She would only disappear on the night of the full moon. Was it possible their daughter was a werewolf? No, it couldn't be. But just in case, they decided to follow her one night, to see for themselves.

They watched as she pulled a black cloak over her head, and crept into the dark forest. She walked slowly, as if enjoying being out. Depsite the fact that the only light came from the full moon overhead, she seemed to know exactly where she was going. Finally, after what must have been an hour of creeping through the forest, she stopped in a clearing.

The moonlight made the clearing shine. The flowers look positively radiant. And there, in the center, stood Selene. She gently pulled down her hood, revealing to her parents amazement, her glowing hair. What was once a deep black was now pure white, and it shone even brighter than the moon. Her eyes, too, were sparkling. She continued to stand in silence, staring up at the moon with a look of longing, for a long time. Then, a cloud passed over the moon, and her hair began to dim. She put her cloak back on, and slipped back the way she had come from.
