Sweet and kind-hearted, Camila is like a character straight out of a cheesy romance novel. Known for her desire to help others, she's often described as having a "servant's heart" and an unshakable optimistic view no matter the odds or situation. Ever the dreamer, she's amicable, likable, and most importantly, an anchor point for her friends to hang on to if they're falling on dark times. She's not easily hurt, but she still has a high sensitivity to emotions around her and how other's feel.
Camila is quite creative, with the imagination of a child and an innate wonder for the world around her. She loves to do just about anything artistic, be it sculpting, painting, designing, baking... The list goes on. She mainly designs, anything from interior rooms to clothes and furniture, seasonal or permanent. She runs her own business as an interior designer, and despite technically being a small business, she's highly sought after throughout the country for her talent in blending both modern and traditional Spanish looks. One problem with Camila is her energy level; it's way up beyond the asteroid belt. She's the kind of artist to forget to sleep, eat, and answer her phone when she's wrapped up in her work. At that point, time has absolute zero meaning to her. She's gone quite a few nights without sleep because of this, and her mother swears that one day she's going to move into Camila's studio apartment just to make her stop.
Although Camila is normally a very healthy individual, she does suffer from one medical condition: She's sensitive to Gluten. Now, while she's not full-blown allergic nor does she have Celiac Disease, it's more a problem of eating too much Gluten. So, except for the holidays, Camila tries to abide by a very healthy diet, mostly Gluten-free, so that way come the holidays she can celebrate. It creates a balance that allows her to take part in traditional Spanish dishes that contain the sneaky little protein. But because of this sensitivity, she has a difficult time gaining weight, and with her not eating some nights it causes her to drop below the optimal weight set by her physician. This leads to a binge of high-calorie or high-sugar items, just for her to try to gain the weight back.
When she's not working or designing, you can most often find Camila at the girl's center teaching the young girls how to dance. She most enjoys the Salsa and the Flamenca, but she's highly talented and can teach almost any dance that a young Spanish girl might need.

Like most of Spain, Camila's home is a chaotic mixture of modern and traditional, mixing both old and new traditions into a radiant tapestry of celebration. Her family always goes all out for holidays, which has made her very passionate about designing rooms, decorating homes, and hosting parties. While they celebrate every holiday, whether Spanish or American, Camila's favorite is and always will be Christmas, even over Dias de los Muertos. Camila loves to walk through the the streets of Madrid at Christmas and smell the food, feel the cold on her nose, and listen to the children playing in the snow. She has a deep love for the coldest holiday, and always way over does her gift giving and decorating. Sitting in front of your decorated tree with a fire and a cup of hot cocoa? So worth it.
One of her private traditions is volunteering, and she does different things according to the time of year. In the winter, she helps distribute blankets to the homeless and take toys to underprivileged children, similar to the Toys for Tots foundation in America. In Spring and Summer, she spends most of her time in animal shelters trying to get them adopted, except for the few weeks she volunteers as a councilor at a young girls' summer camp. In fall she helps her mother at her school, getting ready for the elementary kids to come back to school, then the entire month of November she spends 2 days a week at a soup kitchen, passing out hot meals to the homeless. She largely believes that holidays are both giving and receiving, and no one should be so selfish as to only take when so many people are needy.

Rita's Famous non-alcoholic Sangria Recipe
6 tea bags
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 1/2 cup Ice cubes (and more to serve)
1/2 lemon juice and zest
1 orange juiced
Chopped fruit
For the tea you can use black tea bags but
Rita prefers to use hibiscus tea. Rita loves
to use chopped citrus fruits such as lemon,
oranges and limes as well as apples, grapes
and nectarines.

To make she simply adds the tea bags to
the boiling water and leaves to infuse.
She adds sugar (but you can use honey,
sweeteners or nothing if you prefer). She
adds the ice cubes to cool the tea and
transfers to a large pitcher. She adds her
chopped fruit, more ice cubes and the
orange juice. You can also add cranberry
or grape juice at this point if you want a
fruitier and sweeter drink. Sometimes
she likes to add fizzy water to make the
sangria sparkling. Raspberry flavoured
sparkling water is her favourite thing.


Sangria is amazingly customisable to
suit personal taste and it all stems from
the original Spanish recipe of red wine
and added fruit.
