Username: [[ City of Kings ]]
Monster name: Serling
Nicknames: ‘Ser’ or ‘Shadow’
What does it eat: Tea! And herbs. Herbal tea if he’s feeling adventurous. Though most tea-drinkers have a specific taste, Serling doesn’t so much. He has his top 10, but as tea is what sustains him, he’ll take whatever he can get his hands on. It’s a bit difficult for him to just walk into any old Walmart and buy some, so he typically has to rely on the good fortune of the few people who don’t run for the hills screaming the moment they see him. Herbs are a different story, though. He does have a favorite - and surprisingly, it’s catnip. This has gotten him into some,,,
rather embarrassing situations involving humans. He’d rather not talk about it.
He also has quite the taste for garlic bread! He’ll often have a plate of it for his entire meal. This tends to be a bit easier for him to get ahold of than tea, simply because of its prominence in pizza shops or delivery places. If he can get his hands on a bit of money, he’ll call them out to the middle of the woods and have the money left out with a note saying to just leave the bread, and he’ll pick it up after the delivery person has gone. They find it very peculiar, but so far he’s gotten away without them questioning him.
Hobbies: Reading, writing, hypnotism, sketching, and occasionally practicing some ancient dark magic

Personality: Though he looks like quite a frightening creature, he’s easygoing and somewhat friendly, despite being an introvert. Of course, he can be scary when he needs to be. Usually though, he’s quiet and gentle, the type to try to save an injured animal, or going out of his way to not step on a bug. He’s quite the optimist, and he likes to believe that some day he may even find a place in proper society, perhaps as an advisor or a diplomat. A couple songs that would describe his personality are
Lucky Day and
Drop Pop Candy.
Aesthetic: His aesthetic is always grayscale or black and white, sometimes with an accent color; and usually involves either spooky themes or city lights.
Moodboard here, and
here is a video that would fit his aesthetic as well.
Quick Facts:• He’s actually missing his right eye - it’s not a battle wound, but rather something he’s always been without.
• He has his own private library, full of books he’s read over the years, and some he hasn’t. There’s a wide variety, even including children’s books. He’ll keep any book he’s able to obtain.
• He has the ability to generate pure darkness around him, which makes him able to slip out of most unwanted situations without being detected.
• He lives in Russia, but has been around the world and speaks many different languages. He tends to move when the locals pick up on his existence and start spreading the news.
• His exact age is unknown, as even he has lost track of it. The best he can do is give the estimate of ‘a few thousand years’.
• Though for the most part he dislikes technology, there are some things he’s warmed up to - probably most notably radios or other music-playing devices. He’s a huge fan of swing, jazz and big band music; he typically plays this in the background while he’s reading. The radio he has is one of the big ones from the 1930s, and it’s debatably haunted. Occasionally it plays broadcasts directly from the time period.
• Other weird things tend to happen around him a lot. Nobody knows why.
• His favorite modern band would be a toss-up between Caravan Palace and Swingrowers.
• He owns an old Underwood typewriter, and this is what he uses to write everything. It’s too difficult for him to hold a pencil or pen, and it’s still difficult for him to only hit one key at a time, but he’s practiced enough to be able to use his claws.
• His favorite genre to read is psychological horror - and that’s probably the most frightening thing about him, aside from his appearance! He dabbles in writing stories inspired by some of his favorites, but they’re always short and he doesn’t intend to publish any of them.
• He’s actually pretty good at singing. Sometimes if he thinks he’s alone or gets distracted, he’ll sing or hum one of his favorite songs.
• He talks/gestures with his hands a lot. Occasionally he gets too into it and forgets about his surroundings and knocks something over.
• When he’s nervous, he tends to either rub his arms or the back of his neck.
• He pronounces the word ‘robot’ as ‘robut’.
• He could technically live underwater, as he doesn’t need to breathe. When he does breathe though, he sounds kind of like Darth Vader.
• He can hypnotize people with nothing but his voice and occasionally his hands. He typically uses this to get someone who’s accidentally discovered him to forget they’ve seen him.
