Daeryn's best experience was, in fact, running away from home. Not only did it give him the freedom to be happy and flourish, but it also saved his life.

Daeryn was the eldest of two princes in a kingdom. His father was strict, but kind and just, while his mother was crooked and conniving, always vying to get her way. But under their rule, the kingdom flourished, life was peaceful, and all was well for many, many centuries. In time, though, the king grew ill, and slowly left the public's eye until he peacefully passed away, leaving the kingdom to mourn the loss. As royalty goes, Daeryn was next in line to take the throne. He was terrified, but ready to lead as his father did before him. His mother, though, had very different plans; Daeryn was intelligent, independent, and had a good sense of morals. He was beyond her control; his younger brother Kiyan, though, just old enough to be king, was a different story. She'd been raising him to be like her: cold, ruthless, and aggressive. So, when it came time for Daeryn to take the throne, his mother used all of her connections and extortions to usher Kiyan in right under the cyan-marked Echon's nose.

Daeryn, angry and hurt at the betrayal, snuck out that night, taking to the skies under the cover of darkness to get away from the rotten half of his family. Even the aurora did not shine that night. Away from the castle, he learned to be self-sufficient and strong, even if much of the time he was lonely. He traveled hundreds upon hundreds of miles over the course of a century, not weighed down by prince duties that meant nothing in the end nor the guards that mirrored his every little move. He made it to the nothernmost mountain ranges, where eventually he met Alizeh. If not for leaving his childhood home, if not for that betrayal and heartache, he would never have made it to where he is today.

Though he smiled whenever he saw the astral pattern covering the navy blanket, something had always felt missing. Why was he rushed to bed at the time of day, when all others seemed to be so lively underneath a time he had never known? A lullaby was always hummed into his ear as the dawn just barely peeked over the horizon, and his eyes could never stay open to see.

Dawn was soon arriving one night, and he hid underneath the covers, feigning sleep just before the lullaby could begin. A lovely orange haze began to shine through the thin sheet he hid himself under. His heart was pounding so quickly, he thought it might just burst from within his chest. Lifting the veil from his young head, he was finally witness to the sunrise. Nothing could ever begin to compare to the beauty he would forever hold dear. The day was his home, even if he had only known the night.

I have finally decided on a winner! I loved the stories I read and had a hard time choosing between them.

I just want to mention how much I loved q1q2q3q4's form as well. Because of the event, I won't be doing many RUs (saving it for the biggest comp). I would give you one if I had time to.

I might be making an interspecies currency that can be used to purchase items. It could be earned in place of a runner-up. Let me know what you guys think

Congrats Chimericect! I really enjoyed reading your entry and i think you definitely deserve Saiph!

I loved writing my entry for this comp, i challanged myself and pushed myself out of my comfort zone a bit and i'm glad to see it's payed off! I'll definitely be adding on to Lake's character development for the next Echon that i find fits him and i think i'll try the style of writing i did in my entry again, i'm actually amazed at what i achieved.

I think an interspecies currency would be a great idea! Especially when we're too busy to create an ru or think theres multiple people who deserve something for their wonderful entries. I've actually recently been thinking about creating a currency for the species i own myself, so i'm intrigued on how it would work. Personally i'd have it as a sort of hm system that can be used across the species it includes, or something along those lines.
