It had been a miserable few weeks. Loved ones had been dying, she had gotten little to no sleep, and the moon had been hidden behind the clouds and or in the dark part of it's cycle. The moon had always been a symbol of hope to Callisto. Not being able to see the moon made everything even more dreary. Not to mention the fact that she was a witch and this was both a bad sign, at least in the case of loved ones dying, and also the sign of a new beginning for her.
To occupy her mind she started taking up all sorts of hobbies. She researched relentlessly about herbs and plants she could use in potions and rituals. She started art and stitching projects. Callisto kept doing all sorts of things until she got a letter from one of her relatives that contained a list of names her deceased grandma had written down. Her grandma was very intrigued by genealogy and had records of their entire family lineage. Callisto had never seen any of the names on the list but she hadn't seen many of the genealogical records before either. She decided to go see if she could find anything about these names and asked her parents to bring her her grandmothers boxes that contained all the genealogy records. They brought the boxes to her and left her to research by herself. She began looking through the records and matched the first few names to some records. "There's nothing in common with them... Why are they all grouped on a list? The title seems to be in another language and most of it is faded beyond recognition...Hm..." Callisto pondered to herself. All the documents she had found so far portrayed her ancestors to be fairly average.
Half the names had already been crossed off, so to speak--she didn't want to write over her grandmas handwriting, when Callisto found something interesting. "Dame Alice Kyteler. Tried and convicted for being a sorcerer. Hanged on February 25th, 1325. ...Huh, that's a little odd, that anniversary of sorts was only a couple days ago." Now interested, she kept reading. The public document didn't say much about Alice's witchy practice's so Callisto dug around for any papers that may have belonged to her. She found a page from Alice's Book of Shadows, which is effectively a diary for witches. It was in another language but fortunately Callisto knew it well enough to translate. "How...to...harness...the...energy...of...stars. The page also has many symbols, most of which I have only ever seen used in black magic. I've never used black magic myself but...I know what black magic looks like when I see it." She stared at the paper. It was hypnotically beautiful with all of it's decorations and intricate diagrams. The paper went on to talk about how stars were supposedly the souls of pure spirits and how much power a single one contained. Then it turned even darker than expected "I...plan...to...harvest...the...stars...tomorrow...I...will...record...findings...here." Callisto wasn't sure if she should be terrified or role her eyes.
The entry went on to state that the magic had worked, Alice had successfully stolen the soul of a star, and that the stars had been heard weeping for their deceased sister. The spot in the sky where the star had been was said to have turned black and her ancestor said she had been filled with great power and covered in markings that resembled star dust. "But what is proof of this? I mean... my fur pattern does sort of resemble a comet trail I suppose..." The page ended there.
