xxIt was an odd feeling. Marina eyes wondered about the small hotel room wondering if everything had simply been a dream. The memories of the week’s events played in her mind, like a film almost. Her eyes finally settled on the framed picture she set up to make the place feel more homey. The picture shows her mother, father, and her ten year old self grinning while presenting the largest tuna her father ever caught to the camera. A small smile graced her lips and she picked it up and examined it closer. She remembered that day so vividly despite how long ago it was. Twelve years ago this picture was taken and Marina had come a long way since then. In those twelve years Marina had found a passion of acting.
xxDespite being a nobody from the small coastal town of Shell Harbor, Oregon, she was determined to become a world famous actress. Both of her parents wholeheartedly supported her dreams of success and fame when she told them at age twelve. Her friends on the other hand, not so much. They all told her the same thing, "Why don't you shoot for something more reasonable? Like a job in accounting or something like that?" However she did not let this dampen her spirits, because in her mind this dream was perfectly reasonable and within her grasp with enough determination and hard work. She took all kinds of drama classes in high school and she even joined the drama club. She was bent on learning about the art of acting and she relentlessly pursued knowledge on the subject, eating up every opportunity that she could find.
xxSlowly her hard work began to show. When she was sixteen she landed herself a role in a peanut butter commercial and a yogurt commercial. Marina fondly remembers the first time she had watched herself on T.V. Her sixteen year old self was simply ecstatic. When she was seventeen she landed the starring role in her high school's production of Cinderella. By eighteen she had been in a handful of commercials and had two small speaking roles in two small movies. This was just the start of things.
xxFast forward to just last week when she had found out that auditions for a new movie, directed by the famous Louis Everett, were being held in Seattle. They were looking for a fresh faced actress to play the lead role of a sea faring princess, who took to the seas after learning that her father had arranged a marriage with someone she didn't care for. The movie revolved around the princess and her crew as they go on wacky adventures in search of a place to call home. Immediately, Marina pounced on the opportunity because this was her chance to really dive into the world of acting. With some help and encouragement from her parents managed to make it to Seattle for the auditions.
xxBefore she left her mother gave her a sort of good luck gift and some words of advice. Her mother gave her a handmade dress that reminded her of a jellyfish. A little known fact about Marina, but she found jellyfish to be her favorite animal. She kept this fact mostly to herself seeing as how most people would ask her how she could love a creature known for it's painful stings. Truth is told, even Marina didn't know why, yet she was fascinated with them nevertheless. Something about them captivated her and she just couldn't help it. Her mother gave her some last words before she was off. "No matter what happens, go with the flow, like a jellyfish,". Three days later, Marina was whisked away to the Seattle.
xxMarina's auditions went smoothly, but as she left she became doubtful that she did that well. She gave it everything she had as she read those lines knowing very well how many other young woman had come to try to steal limelight and dazzle the judges, but she still felt like it wasn't enough. She spent more time in Seattle after the auditions to do some sightseeing that would hopefully keep her thoughts away from worry. She had never been to a city this massive before and she would be lying if she said she wasn't in awe. A week went by in a snap and on her last day, as she was preparing of bed she got a phone call. It was from the people who held the auditions. Crossing her fingers, Marina answered the call.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxShe got the part.
xxEverything would change from here, and she was going to face a lot of new experiences. She might even get famous, but if she did she would never forget her small town roots nor her parents and all the love and support they had given her thought out her journey.
