RareDear Calix,
Thank you for choosing to send your letter to us; business has been slow so the fact that we received such an interesting letter was a welcome change to being reduced to the equivalent of searching for fossils in new cement. As for your inquiry we ran into quite a bit of trouble identifying the sample. At first we assumed the problem was with the rock being such a small portion but it turned out the problem lied with what the rock actually was. After sending the sample to three of our different geology departments we were getting desperate but we had one last hope. Since we are a smaller lab we are missing many of the rarer rocks and gems so we assumed we could just be missing the match in our system. I have a connection in a smaller branch of a NASA lab so we were able to get it sent in with few problems. The trouble with identifying the sample was in the fact that it wasn’t from earth. I know it's remarkable thing to hear but it’s true. Three months ago NASA discovered a strange mineral growing on a meteor they had collected on a small space expedition. It was kept under wraps so we can only hope that you won’t share this information with the press. In any case it is a solid to dark purple striped gem stone that was named nova via lacteal or novum for short. Since most of the information is being held until more can be found out about the sample that is all the information I have for you. Thank you for the inquiry, it was a welcome adventure.~FCSL Geo department
