Short story: Minerva paced her den in the woods, ears cocked. The dogs were snuffling at the entrance, and she was trapped. She may not have been the prey the humans were looking for, but that would stop the dogs from killing her. She bolted out under the dogs. A howl went up and the chase was on. For miles and miles, Minerva led them on, climbing a tree for rest every so often. Finally, the dogs gave up and Minerva was free. Free, but lost. Hopelessly lost. She turned in a circle, hoping for anything familiar. Seeing nothing, she strode off into the mist, to find dinner and a place to sleep. She would find a den in the morning. And who knows? Maybe even a Tom looking for a mate.
