A pure white quill.
One day, Skylar was plodding along a trail in the lush forest surrounding his cottage, enjoying the smells and sights.
Water droplets occasionally plopped from the canopy high above onto the forest's soaked ground.
It was absolutely lovely.
Sky continued to trot along for a while, his muscle burning by the time he reached a wide gravel road cutting through the woods.
"How curious," he mumbled as he stumbled upon the old road. "I haven't been this far before."
And because Skylar was an adventurous little fellow, and because he had a thirst for knowledge unlike anyone else he'd met, the white and gray zver set off to find out exactly where that road led.
About an hour later, a tiny overgrown path began to ease it's way into Skylar's line of sight. It took him a few moments for him to realize that the path branching from the main road was indeed a path. The white and gray creature purred with delight and leapt onto the trail, wondering where it would take him next. His tail swished from left, to right, and back again as he trampled through the undergrowth.
After what seemed to be ages trudging along the trail, Sky arrived at another cottage similar to his own, except much bigger.
He let out a bark of joy and toddled over to the entrance, the large oak door slightly ajar.
"It's unlocked?" Skylar wondered aloud. He nudged the door with one of his paws, a lump forming in his throat as the wood creaked away to reveal an incredibly homey interior. The zver, his blood boiling with exhilaration, stepped into the two-story house with upmost caution.
What he saw next took his breath completely away.
Gorgeous drawings and an enormous number of books stood crammed on almost every surface available. Quills, pens, and pencils were scattered around the hardwood floor carelessly. Endless amounts of written papers and sketches were littered around like fallen leaves. Skylar hesitantly picked up two papers, one a detailed drawing, the other a scribbled piece of writing.
He quickly read over the written paper, savoring every word. It was written beautifully, pictures effortlessly forming in his mind.
He then glanced at the drawing, every detail precise, every line exact.
The white and gray zver fell in love. This was stunning work in both cases. He then knew what he wanted to do with his life.
He wanted to be an author. An artist.
He wanted to be an inspiration as this stranger was to him.
Skylar then picked up one of the quills strewn about the floor, and promptly left.
A spark had lit the kindle of his soul, and he was eternally grateful.
I'm so happy this lovely boy/girl is still up for adoption! Though I missed 'eem.
