rufus is as changeable and extreme as the weather.
one minute, he'll be calm and light-hearted, the next;
aggressive and dark.

this is in part because of his past, the remnants of
which are the broken chains around his neck and
ankle and the scratches that mar his surface.
he was the victim of an illegal doll trafficking gang,
the members of which pitted their fellow dolls and
prisoners against each other in brutal fights to the death.
after a time, rufus managed to escape with his life.

rufus tries to box up and contain the bad memories,
but small things can trigger a flood of them rushing
back and he loses himself and all control inside the
horrors in his mind. whenever this happens, he
becomes unresponsive, insensible, and unpredictable;
something that calmed him down during a previous 'attack'
could send him into a rage. he will often lash out at anything
and anyone around him, either verbally or physically. if he
causes harm with these violent outbursts, the guilt overwhelms
him later and he often apologizes profusely to whomever he hurt,
bringing them gifts and helping them in any way he can.

usually these 'attacks' end with riley managing to calm and soothe
rufus into an exhausted, nightmare-wracked sleep. when he wakes,
usually rufus is back to his usual calm, gentle, friendly self.
he hates to hurt anyone in any way, and tends to be overly
helpful and protective, constantly hovering and asking how
he can assist someone. he is somewhat shy, but once he is
comfortable with someone, is very loud and playful, with a
dry sarcasm that can make others laugh at any moment.
rufus enjoys making other smile and brightening their day
because it makes him smile in return, distracting his mind
and heart from the dark, poisonous memories that lie deep within.

- loves to dance, and is actually very good at it, favoring an interpretive style
- hates the color purple, refuses to have anything to do with it
- is fascinated by plants and loves gardening, especially flowers, fruits, and vegetables
- has a very deep, rough voice that, much to his embarrassment, cracks often

riley is quiet and shy, gentle and soothing.
they are almost always the ones to bring
rufus out of his 'attacks' and back into a
stable emotional and mental state, as well
as comforting him in less extreme situations.
they share rufus' distaste of harming anyone,
and sometimes hold him back before he makes
an unintentionally offensive or hurtful joke, as
he sometime accidentally does.
however, if rufus is threatened or someone is
insensitive about his past, riley will suddenly
become angry and aggressive, a change that
startles and unsettles anyone their fury is turned on.

quirks:
- often uses small noises that only rufus understands
to communicate instead of actual words
- loves the smell of freshly washed sheets, and will roll
around gleefully in them
- is afraid of fog/mist, and hides inside rufus's shirt or
buries his head in his hair whenever it appears
