As the earliest deities came together to mold and shape the Earth with a plan to
bring life to the empty universe, all of the excess - the parts of the Earth which
were carved out to form the oceans and valleys, the stuff that was not used for
the formation of mountains and hills - was rolled into a ball and tossed aside.
A bit of lifeforce and soul from the deities's efforts was trapped within the ball,
and as the ball flew through space, thrown so carelessly away by the Gods and
Goddesses themselves, that bit of soul, desperate for survival, burst through the
surface of the waste and pulled it back to Earth's side. The Gods and Goddesses
who had been present for the creation of the Earth found themselves puzzling
over some things, but upon the return of the excess materials, all of the things
that had not been happening properly began to finally work. It was determined
that the Earth, and the deersserts living there, needed that excess material to
survive. It was given the name the "Moon," and the soul that had saved it from
being lost was given reign over it to serve as its protector and guardian forever.

- Name || Iodon
- Iodon is the name that was given to him
by the first deersserts speaking the first
language. Its meaning has long since been
lost. The pronunciation is "ee-yo-don" NOT
"eye-o-don." Sometimes the moon is called
Iodon as well, in homage to his hard work.
- While the moon is most definitely given
feminine attributes and described with
female pronouns, Iodon himself is male.
Iodon's duty as the deity of the moon and her lunar cycle is to keep
the moon in orbit around the Earth, for if he was to ever stop doing
his job, the moon would simply float back into space. He has
carefully developed the roughly 29 day long lunar cycle so that he
can arrange for time off. He gradually pulls the moon in closer,
until the night of the full moon, when the moon is closest to Earth.
After the night of the full moon, he is able to rest and have some
leisure time. On the night of the new moon, when the moon is no
longer visible in the sky, he will race to catch her and pull her back
in again until the next full moon. Because of this schedule, which
awards him very little sleep, he constantly has a tired expression.
He is always looking forward to the next night of the full moon,
when he can let her go long enough to relax and have some fun.

The best way to understand Iodon's duty is to examine a lunar calendar. Above you can see
the lunar calendar for next month, October 2014. He will be working nonstop, with no rest, until
October 8th, which is the night of the full moon when the moon is closest to Earth. After that night,
he will release the moon. When he does this, he typically spends all of his free time sleeping. He
loves to sleep and is always anxious to catch up on it. Sometimes he chooses to take on a physical
deerssert body and spend time among the mortals. Living in space while he carries the moon, he is
unable to see the mortal world, so if he wakes up early before he is due back to catch the moon,
then he will go out and explore. He never meddles in the life of mortals, though. Instead, he likes
to do seemingly mundane things - go see a movie, go fishing, go to a dance club. For this reason,
there are actually many mortals who have been in the presence of Iodon, although they were never
aware of it. Then, on the night of the new moon when the moon has disappeared, which in October
will be on the 23rd, Iodon will race back up into the skies and work again for the next 15 or so nights.
In the distant past, tribes of deersserts would sacrifice a virgin to Iodon on the night of the new moon,
in hopes that it would lure him back. They believed that if they did not, he would never return. This
was never actually the case, and he certainly would have put a stop to the sacrifices if he had been
aware of them, but since he was always far away trying to fetch the moon on these nights, he was
never actually aware that the deersserts were worshipping him in this violent way.
It is now traditional, in religious houses, for deersserts to make round white cakes with honey on the
night of a new moon. This tradition came from in the past, when people historically believes that
Iodon and the moon would be lured back by the smell of the fragrant cakes baking. The cakes are
left outside over night, for Iodon to smell, and then they can be eaten the following day. It is
typical for the cakes to be made with sesame seeds and/or saffron.
It is said that during solar eclipses, Iodon is challenging the sun goddess. According to mythology, he
is jealous of her and the recognition that she receives, and he is tired of constant night. However,
this is all purely myth. In reality, Iodon has no problem at all with the sun deity. In fact, he respects
her tremendously. Solar eclipses are simply caused when, because of the course he takes with the
moon, he accidentally gets in the sun deity's way.
According to mythology, morning dew is seen to be a trail that Iodon left while carrying the moon.

Iodon isn't very godlike considering that he is a God. He does his job out of a sense of duty to the
Moon and the deersserts on Earth, but it is not a job that he does with much flourish or pride. He
spends his time longing for his days off, when he can catch up on sleep and enjoy himself. His job is
exhausting and boring in his opinion - just pulling the moon back into proximity to the Earth so that
it doesn't float away on its course that the Gods sent it on back when the Earth was first created.
He pulls and pushes it along, without sleep, without food, without any time for himself. So can
anyone truly be surprised that he waits for the nights of the full moon, when he can let the moon
go temporarily, with anticipation and desire?
When those days off do come around, Iodon acts mostly like a normal deerssert. He enjoys spending
time with mortals, and he mingles with them. Countless deersserts have actually been in his
presence without realizing whom he really was. He likes it that way. He likes keeping his real
identity a secret in order to enjoy what the Earth has to offer. He has many mortal friends, and
while he has had to watch many beloved mortals die, it isn't something he lets himself be sad about.
It just gives him a greater sense of purpose to get him through his long, dull work days.
His two biggest hobbies on his day off are sleeping and trying Earth foods. Because, once his work
starts, he goes without a break for many weeks, he definitely makes up for it on his days off.
There have certainly been times where he spent his whole two weeks off just sleeping, but he
typically wakes up to do other things, such as spend time with mortal deersserts or eat food. He
is almost constantly seen eating. Even while he's out doing other things in the mortal world, he
tends to get snacks wherever he goes. He loves junk food especially, but he enjoys indulging - he
is constantly trying new restaurants and new cuisines. Sometimes he will come down to earth in
to cities that he has never visited before, just to sample some exotic food he has yet to try. He
enjoys spending his time in countries that have lots of snack foods, such as the United States and
Japan. When he is not eating, he enjoys other hobbies that don't involve a lot of effort or
physical activity - things such as going to the movie theater or to see live plays or musicals,
playing video games, watching sports, or just going somewhere in public to people watch. He
doesn't like getting creative, because that's more brain power than he wants to use. But he will
go to bars just to enjoy a drink and meet new deersserts, or he'll go spend a lazy afternoon on
the beach somewhere. It's not that these mortal things fascinate him or anything like that, it is
simply that he loves the life of a mortal - so much time wasting, even though they have such
little time on the earth as it is. They are lazy and self indulgent. He absolutely loves it!
