She was recently born; she was slender tiny, brown with white spots. Her light green eyes just opened too, the first thing she saw was her beautiful mother looking down upon her. She then saw her brother, her older brother with tiny horns. She let out a soft yawn; life was easy for the small deerssert who didn’t move to much. “Stay here young ones” Her mother cooed gently nuzzling their heads, she trotted elegantly outside. She blinked and looked at her brother she nudged him, but he just grunted lightly, he didn’t want to wake up from his nap. She sighed and looked outside, the sun was pouring inside the warm den where she slept. Curious as she was, she rose up slowly and tried her best to move out of the den. The small fawn, new born didn’t walk very well, she was wobbly upon her paws as she stumbled out into a field of little yellow flowers everywhere. Her eyes lit up curiously, she loved the colours; they filled her mind with joy as she hopped around the field happily.
She hopped, unknowing that it would lead her into a trap, farther and farther away the poor fawn got from her home, then she fell into a small trap. “We got one!” A cruel voice sounded, the pup jumped, she looked around frightened in the tiny hole, she squeaked loudly for her mother. “Awh it’s just a fawn” Another voice said, “You idiot this is a Deerssert, she’ll fetch a high price” he said, “Really?” the other said, “Duh. Now help me get it into the cage” He said, A pair of hands picked up the little pup. She squeaked and struggled to get away from him, but he put her in the cage and closed the door. They loaded it onto a truck and then drove away from the forest. She kept squeaking loudly. Suddenly a large brown Deerssert with golden horns burst out of the bushes and ran after the truck swiftly, he rammed into it.
The poachers yelped and looked back, “The father’s here!” he said, “Drive faster you idiot” he said, they kept going, the Deerssert couldn’t keep up with it’s speed and eventually stopped watching sadly as his daughter was taken from him. The poor little fawn kept squeaking through the drive and into the night until it lost it’s voice and sounded like a small cry. She whimpered sadly trapped in her cage, she pawed at it with her paw quietly. The men were at a campfire drinking and singing loudly, she folded her ears back not wanting to listen. She wished she had stayed home today, she should have never left that den, she should have fallen asleep like her brother. If she could get back to them, she would. Slowly she fell into a deep sleep.
She later woke to a loud thud of the cage moving about, she was back in the truck and the sun was high in the sky, she wondered what time it was how long she had been asleep for. And I guess this is about when I came into the scene. I had spotted the truck from afar and was following it on my bike, I made it to a hill and swiftly. And fell down it gaining more speed, I made it to the truck at last, I jumped off my bike and grabbed onto the back, hiding behind the cage. I noticed the poachers earlier, and was finally making my move. I looked and gasped silently seeing the elegant brown fawn trapped inside the cage, no creature deserved this, being stuck inside such a small prison. I opened it and grabbed the fawn jumping off the truck into the bushes, I yelped when the fawn struggled making the landing awkward. “Ow” I said, I looked at the fawn, she glared at me, a sad and frightened look upon her face.
“I’m sorry little one” I said, I picked her up again and hiked through the forest, I would have to find her parents later. If the poachers didn’t get them first that was. I walked her back to my cabin, I placed her down and got her a bowl of warm milk, she drank it happily and then fell asleep. I had to admit she was cute, I wished I could keep her, but I knew better then to level myself with those poachers. But how would I even find them? Would I even be able to? I sat on the couch watching the fawn when she woke up, she explored my cabin curiously moving around on wobbly legs, she wasn’t used to walked yet it seemed. She stumbled and fell but kept getting up, she sure was stubborn for an fawn. I had seen a few in the forest, but never a fawn like one before. My friend studied the wolves and that’s how I learned about them, I’ve spent my days in the cabin drawing art of them, and learning as much as I could and saving those who got stuck in traps.
“I wonder if Faily knows…” I thought to myself out loud, pulling out my cellphone, I called her, “Hey Faily” I spoke lightly, “What is it Raven?” She asked, the pup moved closer sniffing at me, her little tail wagging and flicking. “I got a fawn” I said, “A fawn really?” She asked, “What kind?” She asked, “No idea, she’s kind of a … well like a tiny fawn, with frown hair and little horns and like… whip creme tail” I said, “WHAT!?” She yelped, “Do you know what you have there?” She asked, “Nope” I said petting the fawn lightly. “That’s a special one! Only one family in the world like them” She said, I blinked, “I’ve never heard of them” I said, “Of course not, they are so rare, I can’t believe you found one, where was it?” She asked, “In the back of a truck, a poacher’s truck” I said, “You saved it?” She asked, “Of course I had to” I smiled patting the pup. She listened to our conversation laying her head onto my side lightly, nuzzling me for warmth.
“Are you going to find it’s parents?” She asked, “Of course I am, I’m going to search the whole forest if I have to, no matter how long it takes” I said my goodbyes and hung up lightly, now I knew what I was dealing with. Faily told me of a gathering of rare deersserts near the northern part of the forest, I would be heading there next. I looked at the small Fawn softly, “Mhmmm… you need a name, something I call you while I’m taking care of you” I said, I thought about it and smiled, “Lorelei… I will name you Lorelei” I smiled. Lorelei smiled and squeaked lightly.
Thus, Lorelei and I were together since, I never did end up finding her parents so I let her stay at my side. I promised to protect her and take care of her, and that’s exactly what I plan to do. I don't know what Lorelei was like before she was taken by those evil poachers, but I do know that she gets really jumpy around others she doesn't know, and she does tend to cling a bit to me, I don't mind at all though. She's cute, and careful, oddly curious, she loves watching others and likes playing games with me. I couldn't ask for a better friend in truth. Lorelei is my best friend, and I love this little brown fawn. I suppose you could say, her fondest memory now, was of the day she met me, and how I saved her… perhaps that is why she stays so close to me.
