Username: MintCatName: I would name his little guy Aurore. It's a bit of a play on the word "aurora", which comes from Aurora Borealis (or, the Northern Lights.) It's also the name of Gender: MaleTreasure he/she would never part with: It's not quite something he owns, but Aurore's treasure would be the Northern Lights! (He lives in the tundra, and really would never be away from them.)Why?: As a child, Aurore was quite afraid of the dark that would often come in the tundras. He would be so frightened that he would just huddle in a ball somewhere, unable to move. As an attempt to distract him from his fear, his parents told him about the Northern Lights and the stories surrounding them. Aurore slowly grew fond of the lights and the stories, and, after some time, even began to look forward to the darkness. He would eagerly sit outside his home when it slowly grew dark, watching the sky for the first signs of the lights.Story: "Now now Aurore, settle down and let me tell you the story of the Northern Lights....." A soft voice cooed, echoing throughout the burrow. The trembling bundle in the corner didn't cease it's shaking, and, with a weary sigh, the voice continued, "The ends of the land and sea are bounded by an immense abyss,
over which a narrow and dangerous pathway leads to the
heavenly regions. The sky is a great dome of hard material
arched over the Earth. There is a hole in it through which the
spirits pass to the true heavens. Only the spirits of those who
have died a voluntary or violent death, and the Raven, have been
over this pathway. The spirits who live there light torches to
guide the feet of new arrivals. This is the light of the aurora.
They can be seen there feasting and playing football with a
walrus skull.
The whistling crackling noise which sometimes accompanies the
aurora is the voices of these spirits trying to communicate
with the people of the Earth. They should always be answered
in a whispering voice. Youths dance to the aurora. The
heavenly spirits are called selamiut, "sky-dwellers," those who
live in the sky."After the voice finished its tale, there was a heavy pause as the small bundle turned it's head towards the entrance of the burrow, its pale lemon eyes wide with awe. "Is that true, mom?" Aurore squeaked, scrambling to his paws and tumbling head-over-heels as in his excitement. Aurore's mother chuckled and nodded, sighing out in relief as her son forgot about his fear for just a brief moment to try and spot the lights.Art:
