:Form:
Name:
Eldora
This means 'Gift of the Sun' in Greek, which was my absolute impression of her when we met in the desert, and still is.
Breedable:
Yes, though it depends on whether she finds herself a mate.
Short Story:
My eyes were closed, but I immediately felt the burn of the sun's heat on my skin. Opening my eyes in alarm, I immediately had to shut them again, for I had stared straight at the midday sun. Eyes still squeezed shut, I sat up slowly, noticing the fine grains of sand I had been laying on. When I had regained my bearings, I opened my eyes and looked around. I was sitting in the middle of nowhere-a huge expanse of sand. Where was I? WHO was I? How long had I been lying in the sun for it to have affected my thinking? Still groggy, I tried to formulate a survival plan in my head. I had no water, sun protection, and saw no signs of civilization. It looked hopeless.
I walked aimlessly, over sand dunes galore. I had tried not to think about what would happen if I never reached civilization, but it's hard not to think about death when it's staring you in the face. My head turned left and right robotically and my skin was nearly at the point of giving off steam. The sun beat down on me mercilessly, and I began to wonder if dropping dead was really worse than this agony. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a blurry spot that was just a shade darker than the rest of the sand. I whipped around, my hopes rekindled, but it had disappeared. "I'm hallucinating" I said aloud, my heart dropping. "I"M HALLUCINATINGGGGGG" I yelled, and began to laugh maniacally. Nothing happened. The desert denied me even an echo.
Suddenly swept by fatigue, I sank to my knees, hardly feeling the blistering sand anymore. I heaved a breath and tried to cry, but my tear ducts had dried up. What could I do but wallow in self-pity? I closed my eyes in defeat, but I felt a slight change in the air after a few seconds. Wearily, I opened my eyes and looked up. Before me was a regal looking...thing. Was it a deer? In shock, I belatedly scooted back, crab style. The mysterious apparition had golden eyes and shoulders that looked as if they were flames. It was looking, not at me, but at some point in the distance. Cautiously, I got to my feet and took a step forward. The mighty creature turned its head toward me nonchalantly and regarded me with those auroral, gleaming eyes. It didn't seem to be dangerous, so I took another step forward, hope returning. It stayed perfectly still, gazing at me with what seemed to be curiosity. I edged nearer, and once I was about a foot away, close enough to touch it, it disappeared.
I was stupefied. I cursed myself for falling for this mirage, this trick of my mind. What little hope had glimmered within me was extinguished, and all was bleak. I had reached the point of oblivion-no longer feeling the sun's heat or my parched mouth. I sank to the ground for the last time, and took a good look around. I was going to die here. Abruptly, I felt the same change in temperature I had before, but this time I didn't bother to open my eyes. "Just a mirage" I mumbled to myself. "Just the ol' thinking machine fooling around, thinking machine...mashing...ma-" A strange sensation swept through me and stopped my senseless rambling. A touch? Looking up in confusion, I saw the apparition I'd seen before, only...it had touched me. And I had felt it. In awe, I rose and stretched my hand toward the golden creature. Vaguely I'd remembered hearing stories about deer-like beasts who used to roam the lands of Eldamore in abundance, but were rarely seen these days, if at all. The creature stretched out its graceful neck and met my hand. Without warning, a surge of optimism, happiness, hope filled my soul and gave me strength. We stared into each others eyes and the creature bowed and turned so that its flank was facing me. Strangely enough, I had the impression that it wanted me to ride him or her. And I myself felt compelled to. As if in a trance, I put both hands on its back and hoisted myself up. I froze, half expecting the creature to throw me off and disappear, but for once, karma was on my side. I fastened my arms around its, or rather, her neck, a voice in my head noted, and the beautiful, angelic creature tore off through the sands, reaching speeds faster than I had ever experienced. There, riding this savior, this gift of the sun, hope was rekindled within.
