Lichenwing.
I'm not really sure why I named her Lichenwing. I guess I just thought it was a nice, simple name and I liked it. When I named her, I was thinking about warrior cats, and their names are always two words put together. Like Fireheart or Graystripe. So I decided to give her that sort of name. Normally I don't put names together, as an example, I would have normally named this girl 'Lichen Wing,' but I wanted to name her something a little different. I knew I wanted it have Lichen in the name, but I didn't want it to be just Lichen. and so, when I read more about lichen Runes, and saw that they rubbed lichen off their wings, I said to myself, "why not name her Lichenwing?" and so that's what I named her. I think it's quite a fitting name for this beautiful girl, and I hope you like the name as much as I do. I had fun picking out a name for her.

Why do you wish to have him/her:
Wow, so many reasons! Well, one of the first reasons is that I have always loved nature. I have fallen in love with more then one Rune that has something to do with plants, and so when I saw this girl, I immediately fell in love. When I first saw her, though, I was trying for the Baby Sunflower Rune, and I decided if I did not win the Sunflower Rune, I would defiantly try for this girl. And so when I didn't win the Sunflower Rune, I just had to try for this girl.
I live right near the woods, and my own back yard is like a mini woods in it's self! Thistles, sunflowers, and lichen covered trees are everywhere, and a few nights ago I even saw a family of raccoons eating some seeds and bread my mom put out. I often go down to the woods and then down to the river, where there is many lichen covered trees. I've always thought lichen was very beautiful, and when I first saw this Rune, my first thought was, "oh, she is so beautiful! She reminds me of lichen." And when I clicked on her, and saw she was a Lichen Rune, it was instant love. Thank you for the chance at getting this beautiful girl, I will work hard on my form so that I will hopefully have a chance at winning her.
Where will you keep him/her:
I would, of course, add her to my Rune Dragon thread, love her to pieces, and spoil her with art, stories, and I would sketch her in my sketchbook a lot. Lichenwing would also have a forever home in my heart, as I would always love her and never give her up or leave her to gather dust. Though this may sound silly, but I sometimes imagine my Runes and characters in real life, flying around my house, and in the woods. So even if I wasn't giving her much attention on here, I can assure you she would be getting lots of attention in real life.

Lichenwing is a tiny bit bigger then a red tailed hawk

Lichenwing weighs 5 pounds
Age:
Lichenwing, from what I can tell, is somewhere between 15 and 25. I can't be sure of her exact age, but I know for sure her tree is much older then her. It is possible that something happened to her old tree, or maybe her egg was lay on a older tree for a reason? I may never know.
Personality:
Quiet.
Lichenwing is a quiet Rune, only letting out the occasional chirp or growl. She has a sort of a raspy chirp, and it sounds funny when she chirps. Her growl is deep and low, and she only uses it when he tree is in danger. She is not a talkative Rune, and the most noise she has ever made is one day when she chirped five times and growled once in one day.
Honest.
Lichenwing, I don't think, has ever told a lie. She is an extremely honest Rune, and, who if she ever tried to lie, would probably not even be able to make it a convincing one. Her honesty sometimes annoys Lemon's other Runes, as she would honesty attempt to explain to Lemon who knocked over the vase in the kitchen. Though Lichenwing can't speak human, like most Runes, she can point to the vase knocker-over with her tail.
Protective of her tree.
Lichenwing is extremely protective of her tree. If you're a threat to her tree, well, lets just say there's a reason she has those claws! She is not afraid to fight if you're a threat to her tree, and she is very, very protective of it. She even panics if she sees one harmful bug on it's bark or on one of it's branches.
A little shy.
Lichenwing is a little shy towards new people and Runes, unless, of course, they are threatening her tree! She has the unfortunate habit of if a Rune lands on her tree, pinning the Rune down thinking it's a threat, as she did with Sparrow. But once she sees the Rune is not a threat, Lichenwing will quickly retreat into her squirrel hole.
Patient.
You would need to be patient if you were to spend hours pruning a branch! Lichenwing is quite a patient Rune, at least when it comes to her pruning and caring for her tree. She will spend hours pruning a single branch and decorating it with lichen. She is also patient when it comes to making her lichen sculptures, and is patient with basically anything to do with lichen.
Easily panicked.
If she sees a single bug on the bark of her tree, Lichenwing panics and must get the bug off as quickly as possible. She also panics quickly if some of the lichen on her tree goes missing, or she suddenly sees a Rune Dragon or human. She is defiantly not the calmest Rune, and defiantly easily panicked.

Lichenwing has an odd personality. Though she may look calm, she is actually easily panicked. She is very honest, but also very quiet. She also has her quirks, but we all have a quirk, or two, or three. She also doesn't have that good of eyesight, and can't see things very far away. She really prefers normal weather, not stormy, foggy, or windy. She loves to stay in the shade of her tree, where she feels most at home. She loves to make sculptures out of lichen, and will spend hours on end pruning her tree. She is not a good flier, and is very clumsily and can't fly when it's windy. All in all, she is an interesting Rune, who also has the strange habit of stealing Lemon's socks. Who couldn't love little Lichenwing? If you don't bother her tree, she is as friendly as can be! Once she gets to know you, of course.
Likes:
Lichen.
Being a Lichen Rune, Lichenwing, of course, loves lichen. She loves to sculpt with it, she likes to sometimes eat it, and she loves to drape it over her tree and in her squirrel hole.
Her tree.
Lichenwing, of course, loves her tree to pieces. She could consider her a tree hugger, as she sometimes fold her wings around a branch. However, she is not really hugging the branch, but folding her wings around it to get the lichen on it.
Making lichen sculptures.
Lichenwing is an amazing lichen sculptor. She loves to make the sculptures, and often spends hours, if not days, or even a week or two, on her sculptures. She takes great pride in her work, but for some reason only likes to be a called a sculptor, not an artist.
Protecting her tree.
Lichenwing loves protecting her tree, it doesn't matter what from. Tree eating bugs, heavy wind and rain, and other stuff like that. Though she prefers not to fight, she will fight if it means protecting her tree.
Milkweed plants.
Though she hates milkweed bugs, Lichenwing loves milkweed. She finds them almost as beautiful as lichen, and she loves to watch the fluffy seeds of the milkweed pods float around in the air.
Cool summer mornings.
Lichenwing loves to prune her tree or simply rest on cool, early summer mornings, when the air is misty and cool, and the grass below her tree is covered in dewdrops, and sometimes a small breeze blows through the trees.
Dislikes:
Bugs.
Lichenwing hates bugs, especially the ones that eat trees. Even the ones that don't eat trees are annoying. Such as milkweed bugs. When they are around, she can't sleep in her tree because they crawl all over her.
Fog.
Lichenwing does not have the best eyesight, and so when fog rolls through the forest, it makes it harder for her to do the work she loves best. Pruning her tree and making lichen sculptures. She simply does not like fog.
Wind.
Another one of Lichenwing's natural enemies. Not only does wind make it basically impossible for her to flew, it also sometimes blows the loose hanging lichen on her tree off. When it's windy, she usually spends the whole day in the squirrel hole.
Painting.
Lichenwing does not know why you need paints when you have a whole world of lichen and moss and bark right outside you're own door. She defiantly does not like painting, and instead prefers making lichen sculptures, which she does not consider painting. Usually, Lichenwing's sculptures have no particular base shape, and she considers herself a sculptor, not an artist.
Storms.
Lichenwing basically does not like anything other then the usual weather. She does not like to get wet, and so when it storms, like when it's windy, she spends her time in the squirrel hole or, sometimes, at Lemon's cottage.
Going far from her tree.
If Lichenwing ever strays far from her tree (unless she's going to Lemon's for only an hour or so) she chirps to herself and quickly and clumsily flies back. She defiantly does not like to be far from her tree.
Any Quirks:
For some reason, Lichenwing steals Lemon's socks. Lemon almost never wears shoes, since she prefers to be barefoot, but she does sometimes wear socks. One morning, Lemon found she could not find one of her socks. Then more socks kept vanishing. After a week of vanishing socks, Lemon finally found her socks under her bed! But how did they get there? Lemon wondered. A few days later she found out. Lichenwing had the oddest quirk of taking Lemon's socks and hiding them under Lemon's bed! Lichenwing didn't mind when Lemon took back her socks, and just kept taking socks. The strange thing was, she never takes both of the same socks! So until Lemon found out where her socks were, she was wearing a lot of mismatched socks.

Lichenwing finds bugs absolutely disgusting. Especially swarms of bugs. Whether it's swarms of gnats, moths, milkweed beetles, or even butterflies, Lichenwing finds them all disgusting. Unlike Sparrow, who would simply eat an annoying bug, Lichenwing picks them off of either her or her tree using he claws. She also finds glow worms, spiders, and anything like that icky. Her tree is probably the most bug-free tree in the woodlands, and Lichenwing would rather bite her own tail off then share her tree willingly with bugs.

Lichenwing licks almost everything. If you hold out you're hand, she licks it. If you give her a piece of bread, she licks it. Sometimes, when in Lemon's cottage, Lemon will catch Lichenwing licking her furniture. No one knows why Lichenwing likes to lick things, she just does, and no one might ever know why. Lemon hopes to someday maybe find out, or at least find a reasonable explanation why. Lichenwing is an odd Rune, and this is just one of her quirks. One thing for sure, though, is she defiantly loves to lick things.

How or why this Rune left its tree:
Lichenwing, who had strayed farther from her tree then she had intended too, quickly and clumsily flew back to her beloved, old, lichen covered tree. With a almost silent flutter or her wings, she landed on a branch of the tree, and, deciding it needed more lichen, swung her lichen covered tail over the branch, draping the lichen on her tail onto the branch. She then looked at the lichen this way and that, rearranging it on the branch many times.

After an hour of tending to the branch, Lichenwing stood back to look at her work. It looked okay to her, and so, since it was getting dark, she jumped into the old squirrel hole in her tree to sleep. Curling up in the squirrel hole, which was lined with moss and lichen, of course, Lichenwing yawned and tucked her head under her wing, like she always did to sleep.

Morning light only managed to stream that deep into the forest because it was nearing winter, and most of the leaves had fallen from the trees, except for those few leaves that hung on until they finally snapped off the branch and floated lazily to the ground. Already, some snow had fallen, and when Lichenwing emerged from the squirrel hole, she could see her breath in the chilly morning air.

Lichenwing looked around for something to eat. Bark! Perfect! Lichenwing hopped over to the branch she had been working on the other day and began to nibble on the bark. Lichenwing loved bark, it was really the only thing she ate, other then the occasional lichen, though she didn't really like to eat the lichen on her tree.

Lichenwing, after she ate, started to prune her tree. Carefully lining the lichen on the branches and arranging it into interesting shapes and sculptures. Flying from branch to branch, Lichenwing had fun decorating her tree with lichen. She made loops of lichen over one branch, and dangled lichen loosely from another.

Lichenwing spent almost all day pruning her tree (taking a break to eat some bark during the afternoon and evening, of course.) At the end of the day, she climbed into the squirrel hole and, after she had yawned and tucked her head under her wing, she fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, Lichenwing thought she felt something crawling on her wing. She simply flicked her wing and continued sleeping.

When she woke up, however, Lichenwing was horrified to see her beloved tree was covered in orange and black beetles! She let out a stunned chirp. There's too many bugs to shoo off! What if they eat my tree down to nothing? Lichenwing thought, tapping her foot nervously on the branch she was perched on.

To her relief, Lichenwing recognized the bugs as milkweed beetles. They weren't attacking the tree, simply resting on it. But what could she do? She couldn't sleep with bugs crawling over her! And with a heavy heart, Lichenwing realized since her tree was not in danger, she would have to leave it until the bugs went away.

Before she left, Lichenwing tried to remove as many bugs as possible, plucking them off with her claws. With a sigh, she spread her wings and jumped into the air, Gliding from tree to tree to look for a new tree hole to sleep in until she could return to her own tree. She finally found a nice perch in a grab apple tree next to a little cottage. She decided to stay there for a while, and with another sigh, started to drift asleep.

And that is why Lichenwing left her tree. She will return soon, to prune it with lichen and fix up her 'nest' in the squirrel hole. Until then, she perches in the crab apple tree in Lemon's garden, pruning it with lichen and the other trees and bushes in Lemon's garden like she would do with her own tree.
Stories:
Sparrow glided onto the branch of a lichen and moss covered tree. She perched on the branch, and since the branch was quite thin, she had to dig her claws into the bark to keep balanced. She began preening her feathers, as she had just taken a nice flight through the woodlands, and her feathers were quite ruffled. Sparrow liked to keep her feathers tidy, since, being a Thistle Rune, they did carry magical healing powers, and she often fussed over her feathers until they were nice and clean.

Lichenwing watched the green Rune with a red bandana on her neck and one on her tail with rings on her toes and three yellow bangles on her tail. The Rune was digging her claws in the bark of the branch. The bark of Lichenwing's tree. With a growl, Lichenwing sprang down from a higher up branch she was decorating with lichen and pinned down the Rune.

The Rune made a chirp that sounded like the chirp that a angry sparrow would make. The two Runes were evenly matched, Lichenwing being a tiny bit bigger the a red tailed hawk, and the other Rune being a tiny bit bigger then a crow. With another chirp, the Rune managed to push off Lichenwing. Lichenwing, realizing this Rune was most likely a threat, went into her "must protect tree!" mode. She sprang back up and tried to pin the Rune back down, but this time the Rune was prepared. While fighting, the thin branch had weakened, and with a quick, clean, snap! the broke broke. The two fighting Runes were sent spiraling down to the ground.

The Lichen Rune believing she had been fighting for the protecting of her tree, The Thistle Rune believing she had been fighting to save her life. With a thud, the branch and two Runes hit the ground. The Thistle Rune let out a loud chirp when the branch landed on her wing. "Let me help you!" Lichenwing said, approaching the Thistle Rune. But the Rune hissed and shrugged off the branch.

Right before her eyes, Lichenwing watched the Thistle Rune's wing heal, and within a minute it was fully healed. The Rune folded her wing and narrowed her eyes. "Who are you? Why did you attack me?" The Rune, who was normally very shy and timid, said bravely. "I'm Lichenwing, a Lichen Rune. I attacked you because you were digging you're claws into the bark of my tree!" Lichenwing said. The Thistle Rune just let out a chirp, spread her wings, and flew off into the sky.

Confused, Lichenwing spread her wings and jumped into the air. But just then, the wind picked up, and tossed Lichenwing from here to there. Lichenwing chirped in surprise as she was swept away from her tree. Since she was not a good flier, especially in the wind, there was nothing Lichenwing to do to prevent being swept away from her tree. Finally, she blew into a tree, not knowing how long she had being pushed along by the wind.

Untangling herself from the tree's branches, Lichenwing blinked open her eyes and gasped. She had been blown clear out of the woodlands! She had no idea where she was, but where ever it was, there was lots of rocks and a cave. Lichenwing felt better when she saw lichen and moss covering and draping over the entrance of the cave, and she decided to explore.

Though she was sad to be away from her tree, she couldn't get back to it until the wind let up, so if she didn't explore, she would be quite bored. Suddenly, Lichenwing saw a flash of orange and green, but when she looked up, she saw nothing, just the wind rustling the bushes and a long, strange looking branch... wait, that wasn't a branch! It was a tail! But before Lichenwing could even move, the tail had vanished.

Shrugging, Lichenwing headed into the cave. She could hear the constant drip drip drip of water as it hit the cave's stone floor. The cave got dark and Lichenwing ventured deeper. Beetles and spiders scuttled under the cracks in the stone, and Lichenwing shudded when a spider dropped down right in front of her. As she moved on, her claws went click clack click click on the stone, annoying her. "At least walking on grass isn't this noisy." Lichenwing grumbled.

Suddenly, Lichenwing spotted a flash of light. And then a soft glow coming towards her. She stepped back, almost tripping over some pebbles, and suddenly, there was a Rune! He was glowing softly and his long tongue was flicking in and out, and then suddenly, he licked up a beetle before it could scuttle under the rock.

The Rune crushed the beetle with his tongue and then swallowed it, and one of his six eyes swiveled over to look at Lichenwing. "Hello, what brings you to my cave?" He asked. "Sorry, I didn't mean to trespass..." Lichenwing said. "No, no, you're not trespassing." The Rune smiled. "I'm Gemstone." He added. "Oh, I'm Lichenwing." Lichenwing said.

"So, what are you doing here?" Gemstone asked. "Well... I'm not the best flier, and the wind swept me away clear out of the woodlands." Lichenwing said. "Oh. Well, it's still windy out, so if you want, you can stay in my cave for a while." Gemstone said with a little chirp. "Thanks!" Lichenwing said. "Oh, by the way, before I came in, I saw a tail vanish into the bushes. Do you know who it was?" She asked. "A tail you say? That was just Tangerine, The Velociraptor Rune. Don't mind her, she likes to hang around my cave." Gemstone said. "Oh, okay!" Lichenwing said.

Gemstone led Lichenwing deeper into his cave, until they reached a cavern where the floor was smooth and almost sparkled. One rock stuck out from the smooth cave floor, and Gemstone flew over to it. He landed on it gracefully. "You fly so well. These wings I have aren't the best for flying." Lichenwing said. "Thanks! I'm not the best flier, though. You should see little Candy. She can really fly." Gemstone said, folding his wings, eyes darting back and forth looking for bugs, his glow casting a soft light in the cavern.

"Oh, who's Candy?" Lichenwing asked, curious. "She's a Baby Candy Corn Rune. She's really small and lives at Lemon's cottage." Gemstone said. Though Lichenwing felt silly asking all these questions, she asked, "Okay! And... uh... Who's Lemon?" Gemstone smiled. "Lemon's my, Sparrow's, Candy's, and Tangerine's Rune bearer." he said, flicking his tail and continued looking for bugs.

Lichenwing knew what a Rune Bearer was and nodded. "Um, is Sparrow green with red bandanas and yellow bangles?" She asked. "Yeah. She's my... uh, well, we are thinking of becoming mates." Gemstone said. Lichenwing blushed. "She had landed in my tree, and I, uh, pounced on her. I thought she was attacking my tree. Sorry." She said. "That's okay. Since Sparrow's a Thistle Rune, almost any wound she gets can be almost instantly healed." Gemstone said.

Lichenwing let out a sigh of relief, glad Gemstone wasn't mad about her attacking his future mate. "Hey, want to stay here until morning? It's still windy out, but I'm sure it will be okay to fly by morning." Gemstone said. "Sure, thanks!" Lichenwing said, picking out a spot to sleep. She found a spot and made a little nest of lichen and moss for herself to sleep in, and curled up ni the nest as it was getting dark out.

The wind was howling outside the cave all night long. Used to sleeping in her Lichenwing didn't have the best nights sleep, and dreamed about her tree all night. When morning arrived, and the wind had stopped blowing, she and Gemstone headed to the front of the cave. "Thanks for everything, Gemstone! And tell Sparrow sorry for attacking her." Lichenwing said as she stretched open her wings.

"No problem, and I will." Gemstone smiled, and waved goodbye as Lichenwing spread her wings and sprang into the sky. Beating her wings hard to keep air born, Lichenwing looked back to say Gemstone heading back into his cave. The gentle breeze helped Lichenwing stay aloft, and she managed to fly back to her tree with ease.

Once back at her tree, Lichenwing landed on the branch and folded her wings around it, leaving a bunch of lichen on the branch. She tapped her foot on the branch, and then began to arrange the lichen on the branch. She was happy to be home.
