Story/Art: The soft wind blew through Aerten’s brown and white fur as she eyed her prey carefully. This time it was a young mountain goat, a spritely ram she had discerned it to be from her hours of observation, who wasn’t concerned with anything but the small blades of green poking through the light snow. His ignorance she used to her advantage, but she still remained only as close to him as was necessary to keep the illusion of being a patch of dirt and snow. She mentally growled as the wind picked up a bit and ruffled her fur more than she liked, but at least it was facing her direction; the ram wasn’t going to smell her, but she’d get even more of his scent to swell in her nostrils.

Deciding she had stalked long enough, Aerten slowly adjusted into a low crouch. She kept her cobalt eyes trained on the ram as her adrenaline began building up in the muscles of her legs…

She pushed off from her crouch and raced toward her meal. He glanced up when he heard her paws pounding on the ground and let out a panicked cry as he hurried to turn himself around, to run away from her. But she was too fast for him. Just as the ram was about to begin a bounding ascent up the rocky side of the mountain, she launched herself at him and sunk her teeth into his back leg, dragging him back down before the rocks he was about to desperately climb. His woeful cries of panic and fear were loud but in vain; Aerten quickly gripped him by the back of the neck and shook violently, immediately snapping his neck and rendering the ram officially hers. She had done well, and thus her victory feast began.
