What are Onis? wrote:Onis (singular: Oni), are the ground bound cousin of the eastern dragon. These large beasts are treasured by the Japanese people who the reside by. Known for their fierceness in battle and appearance, the Japanese samurai have taken to creating masks bearing the face and horizontal tusks these beasts posses. Around the size of a draft horse these creatures are not to be trifled with, it takes a skilled, and calm hand to tame a Oni.
Over time, Onis spread from Asia to Europe, but to no other continent since. These large beasts have blunt horns, many sharp teeth, and the power to breath fire. On the topic of fire, however, a little over half the Oni population has the ability to control fire in small amounts, such as igniting a lantern, re-igniting a fire, immunity to flames, and, in rare cases, setting fire to themselves.
The other slightly less than half of the Oni population has small power over wind. They can breath small, colored, gusts, make breezes slightly stronger or weaker, colden a breeze, and, in some rare cases, summon storm clouds, hurricanes, or tornadoes. An extremely small portion has no powers, and are more likely to be tamed.
Onis can withstand severe temperatures, though Fire Onis usually can withstand hotter temperatures than Wind Onis, and Wind Onis colder temperatures then Fire Onis.
These creatures birth one or two live young, who are born with great eyesight and smell, hence the two nostrils on each side. Onis have unique, two ringed eyes with the outside tending to be darker. Wind Onis also tend to have the darker color surrounding their eyes as well.
Colors for Fire Onis are usually black, gray, brown, red, orange, yellow, or fire blue and purple. There have been a few cases of green or white ones, though. Wind Onis tend to be white, gray, blue, purple, yellow, and green. There have been a few orange and red Wind Onis, though never any black ones. No pink Oni has ever existed, but pink has been seen in markings.
All Onis like shiny things. Some tamed ones are used in battle by Samurai.
