We introduce you to a newly-discovered species - Pearl Gryffs. They are a strange, varying
species that has growth triggered by something even stranger - regular water. Living for
about 15 to 20 years, this domestic species has three subtypes, Flight, Land and Aquatic.
These three subtypes all share the same species and DNA, but are incredibly different; this
is because they each develop for much longer periods of time. It's a long explanation, but
basically, the longer in water they stay, the more they grow. Flight Gryffs take the least
amount of time to fully develop, while Aquatic Gryffs take much longer. This difference
isn't genetic -- actually, it is just according to when the Gryff wants to leave the water.

Pearl Gryffs are named for their behavior. No matter their type, they have a strange habit.
When they mature, about 2 years into their lifespan, they will scour riverbottoms for a
rock, a beautiful stone that catches their eye. These are "pearls" in their eyes. They
protect these stones for the rest of their life and are incredibly protective over them.
Flight Gryffs will carry them with prehensile tails during flight, and Aquatics may even
wrap them in seaweed pouches or put them in necklaces to protect them and keep
them close.

⇒ do not be rude to any of the staff.
⇒ do not whine or throw a fit about not getting the gryff you want.
⇒ feel free to, at any time, pm any of the staff questions.
⇒ don't ask for things we don't have, such as customs. you may suggest, however.
⇒ please don't adopt more than 2 gryffs a week.
⇒ you may only have a maximum of 5 gryffs. staff can have unlimited.
⇒ pay attention to the rules! they could change with little notice, although i will usually
inform people when i change or add in a rule.
⇒ do not steal my art, species, or designs. thank you.
⇒ our competitions that aren't auctions don't have an end date; this is because we want
to make sure someone who will actually take care of them will enter. a five-minute form
you made with the bare minimum will likely not win unless you put at least a little bit of
effort into it.
⇒ gryffs can be any sexuality. also, gryffs can identify as male, female, agender, or
genderfluid / androgynous. sexuality can change, but gender must stay the same
(for convenience reasons).

We can use moderators well. true knight is the head moderator, so if you become a mod, you
will be subject to her as well as me. Moderator applications are currently closed until the center
becomes bigger and it is necessary to have more of them. Thank you who tried out to be a mod!

guest artist applications are open.
Guest artists must follow certain rules, and if you apply you must be sure to follow them.
You may not make any line edits, you cannot have your competition be auctions, and you
may only make Flight or Land Gryffs. As a guest artist, you can make 3 Gryffs, as
well as one custom for yourself if you would like. If you would like to become a Guest
Artist, fill out the following application and PM it to me [commandant].Thorough
answers will end up with a better chance of being a guest artist. I have the right to
deny any forms that I receive. I also have the right to deem a Gryff you design as
unfitting to the species, and, though you will be allowed to make another, the Gryff
you create will not be archived, adopted, bred, or used in any Pearl Gryff activity.

⇒ no neon or heavily clashing designs. designs must look at least a little pleasing to the eye.
⇒ recessive genes are rarer than dominant ones. therefore, don't go crazy with rare colors.
⇒ do not have the designs being too busy. after all, they're animals! calico/striped/etc designs
are an exception, of course.
⇒ before you end a competition, be sure that you already have the genotype from me on the
front post.
⇒ you may make one custom for yourself, and one for another person (as a gift). you may
make runner-up Gryffs if you feel someone really deserves one. you may only make customs
after you have designed 5 Gryffs and at least two have been adopted out.
⇒ you may make Gryffs based off of real animals, plants, bugs, anything. try not to make
too many fandom-based Gryffs.
⇒ make gryffs on a 4 flight:2 land:1 aquatic ratio.
⇒ don't be biased towards staff or friends when it comes to judging a competition. you
may ask other members of staff or people who have adopted gryffs to help you judge.
⇒ don't let someone win based off of a five second form. at least have people try; if
there is not a good form by your end date, extend the competition.

ɢᴜᴇsᴛ ᴀʀᴛɪsᴛs
⇒ only 3 Gryffs and one custom for yourself for a total of four Gryffs. you can only make
the custom after all the other Gryffs have been made and at least one has been adopted out.
⇒ obey all artist rules above. you must ask a staff member to help judge.
⇒ you may not have auction competitions.
⇒ you may only make Flight and Land Gryffs. You can only make 1 Land Gryff.
⇒ do not make any line edits, and remember to use lock alpha. always.
⇒ you can be demoted from a Guest Artist or even given a warning if you break artists
rules. if it is serious enough, it can end up in a ban from Pearl Gryffs completely.
