Glowsprites full species name is Glowsprite Cleroscribe (GC). They are mostly solitary animals, and generally live in dark, damp caves with deep bodies of water. If they live in a group, it is normally a very small group of 2-3. They have no gills, but can hold their breath for ten to twenty minutes maximum. They do have webbed feet though, and insulation fur that keeps them warm in cold waters. They use their antennas to navigate dark caves and detect movements under water; they are very sensitive to vibrations in both air and water. They have eight eyes, four on each side, to help them succeed in navigating the dark caverns and they are omnivorous creatures, but individual Glowsprites can have a preference for just meat, just vegetables, fruit, or insects.
Glowsprites normally have a dark base colour, with a soft, (or bright!) 'accent' colour on their antenna, and the soft delicate skin that loosely surround the tail that starts at the base. Generally, males have a bright glow, but can have a lighter glow, and females can have bright glows, too, but it varies. These large, German Shepard sized (a bit taller) animals are long-lived, the average life expectancy being 40-60 years. But there have been recorded records of some that have lived over 70 years.
New discoveries about Glowsprites!
They communicate with each other with various clicking noises, coming from the base of their neck. It can be heard both in air and underwater, undisturbed by the waters density as it generates from two small bones in the base of the Glowsprites neck. It is protected by a bit of natural fat around it, which helps keep the noises undisturbed under the water. Underwater, they do not open their mouths to click, as the sounds would be disturbed then. But out of water, they do open their mouths like any other animal.
Glowsprites use the flap of skin on their tails for either a threat display or "show off" reasons, (if a threat display, the Glowsprite will move forewords, whole if it is to show off they will stay still or move backwards so the other Glowsprites may see their display clearly.) flattening it out out like a flower. The inside of it glows, and not the outside of it, the part that is normally set off to the sight of others. (We have some gift lines of a GC posing with the skin flattened right here!) Normally males do this exclusively, but females are capable of flattening the skin.
Glowsprites give live birth, like an other mammals. They do not have a set breeding season, and often stay with their mate for a few months, to years. Though sometimes they never leave their partners side, it is not unusual for them to leave at any given moment. Through study, we have found that the pups can take upward to 8 years to fully mature, and that it takes about 6 weeks for the skin flap to fully develop. When a pup is birth born, the skin around the tail is hairless, with small indentations that soon flutter off and "flower" into a more adjustable, movable body part that the Glowsprite can flatten out in a threat display or "showing off".
