The sun comes up every day the same, regardless of how things have changed for me.
You've asked me not to wait, but apparently there's one thing I can't do for you. My bed
is cold. I know yours is too but not in the same way. Not in the way that seeps into bones
and makes them brittle, makes them crack as I turn over on my side and curl up tightly,
and try to remember to breathe.




The birds help.

That's not a metaphor.

They nest in the hutches on the roof, and every day I alight up the steps to visit them.
I've always been fascinated by wings. I want to fly more than anything. I think that
could make me happy.

The birds are mine but also they are not. They go where they want during daylight hours,
but I trust them to always come home. They trust me to be waiting. That's also a metaphor.
And wishful thinking in regards to you. I wait for you to come home. I trust someday you
will. And no matter what happens, I know, you know, that I will always be here waiting.



It doesn't stop it from hurting any less. There are things about myself I hate now.

I remember when you told me my skin was a star chart, full of constellations you wouldn't
rest until you had mapped. I can still feel your fingertips on my arms, on my face, if I close
my eyes. It isn't hard.

I want to cover up every spot on my body now because a map is useless without a navigator.

I sit awake at night and wrack my brain trying to figure out... At which point did your words
turn into lies. I know you loved me once. But I don't know when you stopped.

Love is like falling from a great height. If I had my own wings, I think I could be happy.
I wouldn't have hit the ground so hard when you dropped me. Another metaphor.

Of all the beauty I've seen in my life, none has been more elegant, more passionate, than that of the rose. No sight more foul than that of the wilting flower, no life more precious than that of new blooms. It almost seems as though they are the most gentle being to live on this planet, to partake in our worlds daily mayhem, and yet, they fend off everything with the points of their thorns.

No beauty can compare to that of the silent, dangerous beauty of the rose.

Hello, dear stranger. I am the one and only Ametrine, the finest poet you have ever met, I'm sure. I doubt I need further introduction, after all, I am - What?! You've never heard of me?! How could such an injustice ever have been done to anyone! I'll have to read you all of my poetry, after all, I am the one and only Ametrine, and no one deserves to be deprived of my writing!

What's that? You wish to hear how I received my name? Oh, what a simple story! I'm named after the rare gemstone Ametrine. The lovely gem is one of the few worldly things comparable in beauty to the rose. The gem has a dazzling split of colors, those being a peachy orange and a plum purple. It sounds surely delicious, although I would not recommend talking a bite out of the strange stone.

Perhaps If I held even half the beauty of the ametrine,
I would find myself in a position of more love, more
admiration.

Few things compare in loveliness to the rare gem that is
the ametrine, and I, only sharing the name, pale in
comparison as such.

Would it be better, in this state, to only share the name?

I'm certain, if this gem's pure beauty were to be recognized
in this state, the world would not be prepared for such
beauty, such elegance.

That is why I must only dream of such an event coming to
fruition, never to see the true power of the ametrine.

I am not a lowly man, nor am I a highly one.

I titter back and forth between a choice I must not make.

The life I lead is surely none to hold too dear nor close,

And yet I always find myself comparing to the rose -

a lovely bloom, from Spring to Fall, a lovely bloom I say,

And yet I hear a chorus of voices screaming "nay,

Be not close and be not far, you are only one man."

And surely as the seasons come they've caught onto my plans.
