Dunno if there's any interest in this, but if not it's easy enough to ignore f(＾◡＾ ) I always like it when artists give a bit of insight into their process, so I wanted to show a bit of mine for these guys using the lion as an example!

I started with a sketch which I then turned into a flat color base. I alternated between drawing the base over and under the lines until I was satisfied with the shape.

The base's face, mane and body are each on a separate layer, so I can then lock the layer transparency and paint without worrying about messing up the silhouette.

The mane was special, though; instead of painting directly on the layer, I created new layers on top of it and clipped them to the mane layer to keep them in shape. This way, I could go back and erase edges or rework shading on lower "leaves" without worrying about messing up stuff I had already painted. But that's why when I un-clip the layers where I painted the mane it looks like this lion's having a bad hair day (*≧ω≦*)

aw <3 hedgehog was actually the critter idea that started this whole series! i'm so happy you like the design!
