Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

There was a box of 6 kittens found on the doorstep of the shelter only a short while ago. They are adorable and we were sure they'll go to good homes but they were too young to be adopted out at the time. The lovely cats, Amber and Jade took care of them, and they are finally available to be adopted out!

Favorite toy and why: Ironically, Hera's favorite toy is a cow! Hera absolutely loves her cow. Even though she has owned her cow since she was very young, it still looks as if it were brand new. This is because Hera rarely even plays with her soft plush. She almost always puts her cow in a safe spot, she'd hate for it to rip or snag. She is really protective of her cow, as it is one of her most prized possessions. She even takes a little pride in owning it, too. Hera will only let her family members, and most trusted friends play with her plush, the last thing she'd want is for somebody to ruin her cow! Of course, it's not like she fully neglects her cow, though. No, she still pays very much attention and mind to her cow, but just doesn't want it to wear out or get messed with, it would feel like she failed in protecting it. Instead, Hera sees her plush as a sort of trophy, a very important thing she owns. And even though she may not play with her cow, she really loves to dress up her cow! She will find pretty silks and fabrics to wrap around her plush, maybe even as a dress or cape! She absolutely loves finding things to make her cow pretty with. Sometimes, she'll even find something pretty and shiny like jewelry that she can put on her precious plush. Hera does try her best to make her cow look pretty and always likes to change how she dresses her cow. Of course, she doesn't dress her cow perfectly, but she really does try to make her plush pretty.

Although Hera feels bad for thinking so, Jade intimidates Hera a bit with her reckless and wild nature. She worries about her adopted mother's rashness and when she gets into arguments and fights. However, she does admire her daring and adventurous side. A small part of Hera wonders what made her so adventurous, willing to tackle daunting and risky trips without worry. She also enjoys how much Jade loves and cares for her family and is willing to do anything for them. Hera feels safe around Jade knowing her mother is willing to protect her and her siblings, and that's a pretty nice thought to have. Nonetheless, Hera loves Jade and knows that Jade loves and cares for her as well, which is a reassuring thing to know.

A m b e r -

To Hera, Amber is the one to come to when she's feeling troubled. Of course, she adores all of her family and truly does trust them, but Amber is somebody Hera feels comfortable sharing her thoughts with. Amber's kind and loving nature makes her easy to talk to, and will often come to her wanting advice. She'll also come to Amber for support, sharing her feelings she never gets to share with anybody else. Somehow, she even feels a little protected around Amber who always seems to have a witty remark to a rude comment and seems like unkind words barely affect her. Hera hopes that she one day she could be just as unaffected with rudeness as her mother is one day.

A p h r o d i t e -

Hera has never understood Aphrodite's flirtatious ways. How could she so easily make others love her? It's both shocking and worrying that Aph is so easy with words, and Hera doesn't even know how she can. She loves her sister but doesn't know why she'd put her important skills just to mess with others. Of course, this might just be her not understanding, as she has never felt the need to flirt herself. Aph's bluntness also intimidates Hera in a way. Even though her sister is more flirtatious than blunt, sometimes Hera can find her blunt, sarcastic ways a bit rude sometimes. She really wants to get to know Aph more, but feels a little distant, as well as a little worried when she even tries to talk to her sister. She hopes her sister loves her like she does, and hopes to talk to her more in the future.

Oh, Frigga. Hera has mixed feelings on her sister. She knows that Frigga seems softer around her than others, which she does enjoy, and loves to cuddle with her. Frigga really seems to listen and understand when Hera comes to her to tell her about her thoughts, and sometimes she even helps her through them. Of course, she is way different to others, being the troublemaker. She has seen that her sister apparently loves to cause drama and watch as others argue and fight. She doesn't know why anybody would really want to do that in the first place, in her opinion, drama is already bad, to begin with. She does really love her sister, though, and even though she'd never join her on one of her crazy pranks or dangerous adventures, she still adores her sister nonetheless.

P a r v a t i -

Intimidated by how smart she always is, Hera tends to drift away from Parvati. Hera doesn't have much confidence, to begin with, and constantly feels like she has to live up to her sister's intelligence. Of course, Parvati seems distant with her siblings to begin with, as she seems to prefer their mothers over her siblings. Although they may not talk much, Hera will sometimes come to Parvati, asking questions and seeking advice from her sister. She really hopes her sister isn't annoyed with her constant questions, but since she hasn't said anything, Hera feels pretty safe. She also tends to spark up small conversations with Parvati, who luckily seems to enjoy them as much as she does.

Hera absolutely adores her brother. She feels like she can relate to him, being pretty shy as well. She feels kind of awkward having somebody look up to her, though, but she feels happy he thinks that's she's pretty, a small thing that boosts up her confidence a bit. She'll support him in anything he does and will back him up for any decision her brother makes. Unfortunately, Juno seems to hang around Aph more than the rest of his siblings, but she does want to get to know him more. Though she does manage to have a few conversations with him, which she truly enjoys. She does know for a fact, though, that he's willing to defend her from others that are rude or make fun of her, and she feels happy he is. She does sometimes wish she was confident enough to do the same.

Hera loves Eros and looks up to him for his charming personality. She hopes that she could be just as charming and easy with words as he is one day, almost everybody seems to like him! She knows very well he isn't perfect, though, and although she doesn't show it, she can sometimes get annoyed by how flaky and insensitive he tends to be at times. She does, however, sometimes worry he views her as an awkward, weird sister and sometimes feels so out-of-place when she's with him. But she really does have a lot of affection for him, and always feels safe and happy around him. She tends to open up a bit more when she's around him, which doesn't happen often. Even though he is only a tad younger than her, she relies on him and tends to stick with him more than her other siblings.

Personality: Quite honestly, Hera is many, many things. For one, she is a huge worrier and worries about what others think about her. Hera's mind constantly buzzes with her concerns, worries, and doubts. She also tends to carry a look of concern almost all the time except when she's with her family. She tends to shy away from larger groups, or anybody else she doesn't know for that matter, and usually only stays near her family or close friends. She really wants to have friends with and would do almost anything within reason to make others like her. She always feels like she has to impress others or else she'll be looked down upon and hated because she didn't live up to their standards. Hera has never been one for talking, always using conversations as a last resort when around strangers. She always ends up sounding really awkward when she actually does try to spark up some conversation with a stranger or get caught in one and feels absolutely horrible after her failure when she messes up. Hera has always been more of a follower than anything, not really having a say in anything and letting the others decide things instead. She always has a bunch of thoughts and opinions on different things but fears that they'll be called 'stupid' or 'weird'. Hera is also very shy and insecure, lacking confidence and having a very low self-esteem. One small mistake, and she feels like she messed up everything. She often compares herself to others, wondering what would happen if she was as brave as somebody, or as smart as somebody. Another thing is that Hera is extremely sensitive, and even a comment that may not have intended as hurtful could put her in tears. Surprisingly enough, Hera tends to get annoyed quite often, but hides her frustration quite well, hoping that nobody thinks that she's too short-tempered and impulsive. All of the thoughts and worries she has she shares with the most trusted members of her family. Hera loves her family to death and with them is where she feels the most comfortable, talking and playing with them. favorite toy and why : Hera's favourite toy is her alpaca plush, which she has affectionately named Rosy! Rosy isn't much of a toy she pretends to hunt and aggressively play with, but more of a "cuddle buddy". Whenever she goes to sleep she always needs Rosy to cuddle up to, or else she'll refuse to sleep. If Rosy is nearby, Hera feels safe and comforted. Rosy's remarkable softness makes Hera adore her so much, and loves leaning on her. It doesn't take long for Hera too fall asleep when Rosy's at her side, even when Hera isn't terribly exhausted. Rosy, as well, is silent when it comes to Hera playing with her. Hera is usually intimidated by toys that squeak, or that make loud noises in general. Whenever Hera accidentally drops Rosy, she barely makes a thud. When Hera unintentionally squishes Rosy, she's quiet. When Hera does anything with Rosy, Rosy doesn't make any sounds, which adds to the peaceful and calming effect Rosy has on Hera. Even if soft plushies like Rosy are suppose to not make obnoxious noises, Hera still favours her little darling.





personality : Hera, even with the expectancy of being a proper goddess-like feline (after all, her name is the goddess of marriage), is far more than what she is named after. In fact, sometimes she ponders whether her name even rightly suits her. Hera is more of the submissive type, going along with what she's told in fear that she'll get hated. Hera tries her best to be liked, but with the fact she goes along with somethings that she doesn't completely want to do makes it harder to offer her own opinions. But of course she still has her own thoughts, Hera's just frightened if she doesn't do what others want she'll be rightfully hated. This submissive feline is as well a rather timid or in common terms - shy. Hera can't help but start getting overly anxious when someone passes by, worried that she'll make a horrible impression on them and be utterly embarrassed. Hera has grown into some sort of naive feline, though, as she at times appears to lack intelligence. But maybe naive wouldn't fit? Hera is more impulsive, rather unintelligent. Hera has a habit of acting before the thought even properly reaches her mind and she can shuffle through the consequences. Her excuse is almost always "can't waste time", but at times she knows that she could have just thought about her reply for just a second longer before blurting it out. But even so, Hera is a lover of sappy, cheesy, lovey-dovey romances. Romeo and Juliet, Titanic, Antony and Cleopatra, you name it. Especially the ones with all the dramatic and unfortunate events caused by the love of two. But in reality, Hera secretly is a hopeless romantic. Hera can't help but becoming heads over heels for someone, but then suddenly never ending up confessing but yet fantasizing about the things that could happen if they were indeed together.

Jade - Hera is admittedly somewhat concerned about Jade's slightly chaotic personality, but still is fully aware of her everlasting love towards her and her kittens. Hera still loves her momma, and knows how much she loves Amber and how inseparable her two adoptive mothers are with each other. Hera hopes that one day she'll have the same strong bond with someone as well, as she looks up to how caring they are to each other. Hera sometimes likes to hang around Jade, as she knows that Jade cares deeply about her kittens and Hera enjoys the feeling of being loved.

Amber - Hera adores Amber's caring nature towards everyone she loves. Hera always feels comfortable starting up conversations with her other adoptive mom, even if the conversations are quick. They sometimes consist of "how did you and Jade meet?". Even if she's gonna told many times, Hera loves the story of how they met and enjoys listening to it every time. But besides that, Hera doesn't stick around with Amber all the time. Similar to Jade, she enjoys hanging around her adoptive mother but often strays away from her at times, most of the time without even noticing.

Aphrodite - Hera isn't entirely fond of her flirtatious sister. She doesn't absolutely despise her, it's simply more of a mix of envy and intimidation, as well as a bit of surprise. Hera is quite shocked on how Aphrodite easily flirts with everyone and everything, and how smoothly she does so. While Hera on the other hand can barely pull off two words when flirting, and whenever she tries it ends up sounding like she's trying to sing like a broken record. But seeing how Aphrodite flirts so easily, Hera feels as if she would stay no chance against her and likes to keep her distance from Aphrodite.

Frigga - Frigga was never significantly close to Hera. Hera knows that she and her siblings need to stick together and grow a strong bond, either bad or good, but Hera seems to stray away from Frigga, unsure of what their capabilities truly are. Several times a single strand in her mind would whisper to Hera to talk to her. Hera refuses, frowning as her sister then walks off. But even so, Hera has no points towards hating Frigga in any way. Think of it as a more neutral sibling relationship, not a developed one that makes Hera either love Frigga or downright despise her.

Parvati - Parvati is most likely the sibling that Hera is closest to. Hera can easily seek out many bits they have in common, and of course the most known one would be the sappy romances they watch. Similarly, Parvati enjoys romances. Hera was delighted to find out that she could finally express her feelings about the romances she had watched without getting bemused stares. Hera enjoys going up to Parvati to simply fawn over her favourite romances. Hera has a tendency to hang around Parvati, feeling comforted when she's around her sister. To Hera, Parvati is one of the most honest and sweet cats she has ever met, and it's not going to change anytime soon.

Juno - Juno gently reminds Hera of one of her adoptive moms, Amber. Hera has noticed that Juno seems to act more on the feminine side, attempting to be like his sisters. Hera tries to sneak in a few tips here and there, but more than half of them are admittedly not so... achieving. But Hera knows that Juno - similar to Amber - has the capability to snap back with a clever and extremely personal comeback, often leaving the other at a loss for words. It still surprises Hera, since the normally timid male being able to hiss back such a impressively harsh - yet good - comment.

Eros - Hera is not completely oblivious upon why Eros is doing so, but Hera is still bothered by Eros's way of pushing Hera to face her fears and insecurities. Hera is extremely submissive when it comes to Eros trying to convince her to knock down her fears. Hera tries her best to slip out of Eros's "help", but at times it's impossible and Hera can't stop herself for breaking down afterwards. Hera accepts Eros's wave of apologizes when he realizes his mistakes, but Hera just wishes he wouldn't keep on pestering her one day.







Frantic wails absorbed Hera, her ears thundering with the sound of her sibling's uneven, urgent cries. Rain pattered continously at the cardboard box, slowly tearing away at the soggy material.

Hera's eyes flickered opened, her paws almost making Rosy tumble off her bed. It was all a dream, but it was more a vivid flashback of when she got crammed into the crippling box with her siblings. But she shouldn't worry anymore. She was now safe. Hera let herself sink back into her bed, her eyelids sleepily starting to close. She knew that she didn't have to experience anything like that anymore. She, Rosy and her siblings were safe.

Rose red petals drifted from above, landing gracefully in a circle around Hera. A gentle melody played in the background adding a serene affect to the scene. Colourful birds soared past. The grass beneath her paws was delicate and soft. Now this was a dream Hera liked.
