What is a hartling? wrote:Characterized by their slim builds, opposable taloned paws, and gem adorned foreheads; Hartlings are a quadruped species known for their intelligence and adaptability. They originated in the arid mountains, and range from the size of a full grown deer to the size of a large class dog. Hartlings are viviparous, each carrying a blood color corresponding with their gem color, and cannot breath underwater with the exception of some legendary Hartlings. A Hartlings talons are sharp and opposable to an extent, allowing them greater mobility and speed, as well as good climbing ability. Their language is one of barks, growls, the occasional chirp, and song like howling.
Hartlings are not strictly nocturnal, diurnal, or even crepuscular; meaning their sleep cycles are dependant on preference alone. They are hardy despite their delicate looking build, and can be found with a wealth of harmless mutations, many being dependant on environment and linage. They are highly intelligent and most often travel in family or adoptive packs, though there is the occasional loner.
A Harting’s gem is essentially it’s life force, if a Hartlings gem is removed the Hartling will die. A Hartling’s gem will glow when it comes near the Hartlings soul mate, Hartlings do mate for life and usually only with their soul mates.
