what are some of your out of reach dreams?

I love to hear about peoples aspirations, I think they can tell you a lot about a person and it's always really sweet to see people talk about something they love, or love the idea of. Stuff they may be passionate about.

So what are some of your dreams that you dont think are currently attainable? the stuff you fantasize about but dont know if you would ever actually commit, or even be able to. no shame in this topic :)! it can be as realistic or unrealistic as you want. I just want to hear it.

my main one is I would love to try arctic living! I spend so much time thinking about how amazing it would be to be out somewhere like that, really getting a taste of nature and learning to live under harsher conditions, and getting to examine more extreme weather up close and personal! this isnt really an attainable dream for myself for multiple reasons, firstly I live and have always lived somewhere warmer than average in the states, so the idea of me going somewhere below freezing more than half of the year is laughable. I also spend a lot of my time online, which would be more difficult somewhere like alaska or svalbard or greenland, where internet is a lot more sparse. plus my wife is allergic to temperatures 60F and below. so it's pretty much out of the question, but i love to imagine it. maybe I'll just visit the arctic someday :)

What a lovely idea for a thread! What was it that made you excited about the Arctic in the first place?

I'd also love to visit the Arctic sometime (although I already live quite far north in the world (last winter we had -25°C - my eyelashes froze over with rime frost from just going ten minutes to the grocery store)). Do you enjoy reading? I've heard there are some great true story adventure books about the early polar explorers. If you like, I can have a look through my GoodReads - I believe I've saved a couple of titles that I wanted to read.

My dream right now is perhaps a bit plain but not less of a dream. It is to be able to buy an apparent of my own. I currently live in a shared student flat and get by on a very sparse budget. I like to imagine having a space that is only my own. Where I can paint the walls the colors I want (salvia green, egg shell white, faded oranges and yellows..) and furnish with things that I have chosen because I like them, not because they were cheap/free. I imagine having morning coffee on my own balcony, cooking meals in my lovely kitchen and sleeping undisturbed by flatmates before going to work (only one year left to graduation whoooop - if I can make it that is). I also imagine being able to afford to dress in clothes that I love, going to the hairdresser and perhaps even sometimes getting my nails done hehe.

In my country, housing prices are insanely high, especially in the city where I'd like to live. It'd take years to save up before I could even buy something small. I also have a boyfriend who lives in another city, so if I buy something in a couple of years, it'd likely be with him (for economical and practical reasons). Don't get me wrong, I'd love to live with him. It's just that I dream of feeling like I have a space that is only mine. Mine alone. That I own and that couldn't be taken from me, even if we were to separate. That I can be completely free to do whatever I want with. I'll keep this dream close to heart and who knows what life will bring me :))

my special interest since I was a really little kid was meteorology and climatology! with that in mind, there are very few habitable places on the planet that exist this close to such extremes. the north pole is certainly far less freezing than the south pole (given altitude and the like), but honestly that is why im more interested in visiting a town close to the north rather than the south (and id never want to visit either pole, personally, for scientific study reasons or otherwise as I have no interest in feeling this!) most likely I'd like to visit utqiagvik because not only does it have such fascinating weather, it also has such rich cultural history that I am interested in learning a bit about too. plus it's the only place ive been looking at thats located in the united states and the population largely speaks english in addition to inupiaq. if you do have any books I'd love some recommendations!

I love this dream, I understand this a lot. I personally prefer living with someone but I totally understand the appeal of your dream as well. such things sound so simple and mundane when you look at them on the surface level, but truly living a life free to be oneself like that is certainly something to be sought. it is really sad that this is in fact extemely unattainable for a large majority of people in the world right now, hopefully someday this will improve some. I believe in you!:)

to visit space, or be an astronaut. I let go of this dream a while ago because I was extremely discouraged. School has always been draining to me, and I just lost all motivation to learn anything required to become and astronaut. That being said, I daydream about it often. I doubt I'll be able to go to space in this lifetime but honestly If given the chance, even with a 100% chance of death, i would go. I'm still heavily interested in space related topics and astronomy in general, but it's a mere interest now compared to what it used to be. Maybe one day, even if it's 20 years from now, I'll decide to work towards it but in my current state, I highly doubt it.

That sounded depressing so on a lighter note: I'd love to visit Alaska! I would love to take my Mom to see Aurora Borealis, it's been a dream of hers for quite some time and I promised I would take her when I was young, probably 10 years ago lol. It's less out of reach and while money is tight, I'm sure I'll be able to take her within the next 5 or 10 years, once I get my own life sorted out a bit.

astronomy is an infinitely fascinating field! i can hardly blame you for wanting to reach the stars, it's gotta be beautiful up there and completely unlike anywhere on earth, other than maybe the deepest abysses in the ocean. it's okay to not be ready right now! aurora borealis would be pretty awesome to witness, it's probably easier to catch a glimpse in winter since theres less hours of sun then. whenever you decide to go I hope it's as amazing as you guys anticipate!

I don't know a whole lot about Italy but regardless that sounds really neat, I'm sure you'd be able to someday!
