Advice?

Postby JaspersJester » Tue Sep 06, 2022 3:31 pm

I was excited to open my art shop and actually start doing stuff on cs, but no one seems to be interested.

Is my store not appealling enough?
Im scared my prices are too high… but I also added pet, art and usd options!
I know my art isnt the best, but it isnt bad! A bit generic maybe, but decent!

I just want to know if its something I can maybe change, of just
Give up, ig?

Your prices are a bit high compared to some other art shops I've seen on here, but at the same time, I think it's for good reason. You have a unique and captivating art style that is very aesthetically pleasing, at least to my eye. Your designs and the colors you use for them are absolutely lovely and eyecatchingly vibrant, and I can tell you've worked and practiced for a long time to get to the point you're at now.

I can understand how frustrating it is when you try to put your art out there and make yourself known. As a fellow artist and one who's also been overthinking about a custom character shop, believe me, I know. But I don't think you should sell yourself so short and be so quick to give up, either. You've got talent, and even if your prices are a little higher than others, I think your artwork is worth the price. The only thing stopping me from putting an order in myself is the fact that I'm completely broke, haha!

I know it can get discouraging as an artist sometimes. But the worst mistake you could ever make is to give up. Keep learning, keep practicing, and keep drawing what you love. Eventually someone will like your art just as much as I do, and will happily pay the price for your content. In the end, I think you should do what heart tells you, not your mind. If you want to raise or lower your prices, that should all be up to what you think feels right.

But if you truly want my advice? Don't give up. You'll get somewhere eventually, I promise you. Art is an exhausting hobby, and buyers and consumers can get fickle sometimes. But there will always, always be someone who's there to support you. It may take a while, but you'll get customers soon. I know it. You just have to have faith in yourself.

I'm not sure how much my words help, but I greatly wished to tell you this and to hopefully lift your spirits a bit. Please don't be so hard on yourself, okay? :)

I am glad to hear it! I used to be in a position myself where I doubted my own art and was convinced I wasn't good enough. But I never gave up, and after some more practice and experimenting with styles and brushes, I now love my own art more than I ever did before. We all have periods where we doubt ourselves, and that's okay. But the important part is to not give up on your hobbies or the things that make you happy. Your art is unique, stunning, bright and vibrant, and I want nothing more than for you to see the worth in it that I do. I see very good things in your artistic future! And I'm glad to hear that you won't be giving up any time soon!

*edit: here comes a large chunk of advice so hold on tight ;p

Hi! First and foremost: your art is beautiful and I think the prices are reasonable~

Some advice:
I had a look at your shop and I like that you have clear prices and examples. You are also very clear on how everything works. The thing that struck me was that I felt a bit intimidated by the large section of rules in the first post. While I agree that rules are very important, I think that the first impression the customer gets is important to (but in another way).

Perhaps try:
- greeting customers with something welcoming and friendly like "welcome to my shop!"

- show examples and prices in the first post (or link to another post where they can be easily found) so that customers can easily see what excellent pieces you have to offer

- try shortening the rules section a bit by reformulation and perhaps cutting some of them (ask yourself why you have a rule and choose which are truly needed (and perhaps you feel that all of them are)) (when I go looking for art, I'm often discouraged by long rules sections.)

- this is a personal preference, but I found the all purple text a little hard on my eyes to read when there were large sections. I like that it is expressive however, and I think it can be worked into a more easy to read experience. Perhaps try making titles and accents purple and the text something like black or a dark gray?
Perhaps even draw some purple decorations to use around the posts? Or find some f2u ones online?

I believe that with some tweaks to the overall visual impression of your shop, you'll start getting more customers in no time. (I study landscape architecture and we talk a lot about the importance of presentation and visuals so if you'd like some more tips, don't hesitate to message me :)) )

Good luck with your shop and all the best to you! <3
